It focuses on the shifts occur in Source Text and Target Text in term of Catford’s category shifts. The Descriptive Translation Studies (DTS) is used in analyzing the texts. The texts are separated in clauses and analyzed based on Catford’s category shifts. It is argued that the interference of First Language affect in translating ST into TT. It was found that: a) unit shift, class shift and the very common one- the structural shift occured i translating the text, b) expanding text occurs in which the TT has explained the more detail than the ST, c) It was also found that there are two kinds of interference between ST and TT i.e. Syntactic/Grammatical interference and Lexical/Semantic interference as shifts are the reflection of the translator’s first language interference)

Abstract

Abstract

This study explored the applications of forensic linguistics concerning two of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories, and the detailed linguistic analysis of Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Murders in the Rue Morgue.’ The key to the analysis of the two Sherlock Holmes stories involved the examination of how language was used to construct narratives of crimes and detection, the areas of discourse, narrative structure, and character development. The linguistic analysis of  Poe’s text involves discourse analysis, and pragmatic, and forensic linguistics revealing how language builds up mystery, tension, and resolutions as well as how character’s speech signals their aspirations and interactions. Additionally, it was shown not only how to engage the formalist principles in the interpretation of those texts directly connected with this movement but also, how linguistic methodology can be useful in the analysis of other works and in general, in the literary investigation. The study also highlighted the canonical significance and diversity of cases in the selected stories, demonstrating the varied methods through which language shapes the detective genre. By integrating secondary literature and employing rigorous analytical methods, the research contributes to a deeper understanding of forensic linguistics and its applications in both literary and legal contexts. The findings underscored the importance of linguistic analysis in enhancing the narrative structure and aiding in the detection of crime within detective fiction. Abstract

Ecofeminism is an approach for understanding the interconnected oppression of women and nature, emphasizing the need to address both simultaneously. In Ecofeminism, the relationship between the feminine and the natural world is explored to reveal patterns of domination and resistance. Many researchers have applied ecofeminism to different literary works, but there is inadequate research found on the ecofeminist exploration of Kishwar Naheed’s poems. Applying textual analysis by Catherine Belsey, the study aims to qualitatively explore the representation of nature and the feminine within Naheed’s poetry. The findings of this study suggested that Naheed’s poems intertwine environmental and gender concerns, highlighting the dual exploitation and resilience of women and nature. This analysis emphasizes how ecofeminist perspectives enhance the thematic depth and critical understanding of Naheed’s poetry, affirming their relevance in literary interpretation Keywords : Eco-feminism; Environment; Oppression; Kishwar Naheed

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of storytelling as an instructional strategy for improving students’ reading comprehension. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving 32 students divided into a control group (n=14) and an experimental group (n=18). The control group was taught using conventional methods, while the experimental group received a storytelling-based intervention. Pre-test and post-test scores were analyzed to measure the impact of the teaching methods. The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group’s reading comprehension. The mean score for the experimental group increased from 64.89 in the pre-test to 78.22 in the post-test, while the control group’s mean score only increased from 65.21 to 68.57. A paired t-test revealed that the experimental group’s improvement was statistically significant (t=6.72, p<0.01), whereas the control group’s improvement was not (t=1.85, p>0.05). An independent t-test comparing the post-test scores of the two groups confirmed a significant difference (t=4.29, p<0.01), with the experimental group outperforming the control group. The effect size (Cohen’s d=1.12) indicated a large impact of the storytelling intervention. These findings highlighted storytelling’s potential to enhance students’ reading comprehension by fostering engagement and deeper understanding of the material. The study underscores the importance of integrating innovative teaching strategies, such as storytelling, into educational practices to improve learning outcomes. Further research is recommended to explore its application across different subjects and educational levels. Keywords : storytelling, teaching strategy, reading comprehension

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to develop a digital storytelling product based on Indonesian cultural heritage (Nusantara) to enhance students’ learning independence in the context of Society 5.0. This study employed a research and development (R&D) design using the Borg and Gall model consists of: research and information gathering, planning, initial product development, initial field testing, product revision, main field testing, main product revision, operational field testing, final product revision, and dissemination and implementation. The product development process included expert validation (media, culture, and language), practicality testing by students, and effectiveness testing using a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The results showed that the product improved substantially after expert revisions, with validation scores increasing from below 60% to above 87%. The practicality test involving 25 students yielded an average practicality score of 82%, categorized as “good.” Effectiveness testing revealed a statistically significant improvement in students' learning independence, with a mean difference of 22.7 points (t = 9.85, p = 0.000) between pre-test and post-test scores.
