Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of the intensity of social media use experienced by adolescents. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-control and the intensity of social media use in late teens. This research is included in the type of quantitative research with a correlational approach. The population in this study were all late teens at the Faculty of Psychology and Education, Muhammadiyah University of Sidoarjo with a total of 2160 people. The sample in this study was 297 people with purposive sampling technique. The data collection technique in this study used a self-control scale and a social media use intensity scale. The data analysis technique uses the product-moment relationship using SPSS16.0. The results of the data analysis of this study explain that the value of the relationship coefficient (rxy) is -0.382 using a significance of 0.000 <0.05 which indicates that there is still a significant negative interaction between self-control on the intensity of social media use in late teens. The effect of self-control on the intensity of social media use in this study was 14.6%.

Abstract

This study employs a quantitative approach to investigate the relationship between permissive parenting and juvenile delinquency. Conducted in Lemah Putro Village, with 110 subjects selected from a population of 150 through probability sampling, the research utilizes Pearson product moment correlation analysis via SPSS 23 for windows. The findings reveal a significant positive association (coefficient = 0.201, p = 0.027) between permissive parenting and juvenile delinquency, with a 4% influential contribution. This study underscores the impact of permissive parenting style on elevated levels of juvenile delinquency, highlighting the imperative for targeted intervention strategies. Highlights: Significant Positive Link: The study uncovers a substantial positive relationship between permissive parenting and juvenile delinquency. Quantitative Analysis: Utilizing Pearson correlation analysis, the research employs a robust quantitative approach to investigate the connection between parenting style and delinquency. Implication for Intervention: The findings emphasize the need for targeted intervention strategies to address the influence of permissive parenting on elevated levels of juvenile delinquency. Keywords: Permissive parenting, Juvenile delinquency, Relationship, Quantitative method, Intervention strategies.

Abstract

General background: Motivation is a crucial factor in students’ academic success, especially in the context of boarding schools where learning environments shape character and discipline. Specific background: However, many students still struggle with low motivation due to limited self-efficacy and inadequate independent learning skills, which hinder optimal academic achievement. Knowledge gap: While previous studies have examined self-efficacy or independent learning separately, few have analyzed their combined role in shaping students’ motivation at the junior secondary boarding school level. Aims: This study investigates how self-efficacy and independent learning contribute to students’ learning motivation at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Tulangan. Results: Using a saturated sample of 75 students across grades 7 to 9 and analyzing data with multiple linear regression, the findings show that self-efficacy and independent learning significantly predict learning motivation (F=56.838; p<0.001), explaining 62.1% (R²=0.612) of its variance. Novelty: The study demonstrates that the synergy of self-efficacy and independent learning provides stronger explanatory power for student motivation compared to analyzing them in isolation. Implications: Strengthening these two factors may offer educators practical strategies to foster motivation and academic engagement in Islamic boarding school settings. Highlights: Self-efficacy and independent learning jointly shape students’ learning motivation. The model explains 62.1% of motivation variance among boarding school students. Offers insights for strategies to strengthen motivation in Islamic education contexts. Keywords: Self-Efficacy, Independent Learning, Motivation, Boarding School, Secondary Education
