Abstract

E-portfolio is one of the learning tools that has been applied for learning speaking at higher education. Although researchers and educators agree that e-portfolio has great potential and many advantages as assessment and learning tools, its implementation in the teaching and learning process is not as easy as expected. The evaluation of its implementation is urgently needed. This study aims to investigate university students’ challengess in learning speaking using e-portfolio. This research applies a descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this research are the fifth semester students of the class of Public Speaking in the Academic Year of 2022/2023. Data was collected through observation, interview, and documentation. The data analysis technique is based on the theory of Matthew B Miles which includes: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification.The result shows that students who participated in the class of Public Speaking which applies e-portfolio experienced several challenges, such as they: 1) are sometimes reluctant and lack of motivation, 2) are required to have a stable internet connection, 3) need some adaptations to develop e-portfolio as new learning tool,4) are required to have some ideas and creativities

Abstract

International programs by university lecturers in Indonesia, both research and community service, are currently highly encouraged. This kind of international program is believed to provide many benefits such as: increasing cooperation networks both academically and non-academically. In its implementation, not all international programs run smoothly as planned. There are various problems faced by the organizers caused by differences in language, culture, rules, etc. This article will reveal the author's experience in organizing an international training program on developing electronic portfolio ( e-portfolio) especially for English and Arabic teachers in Thailand, covering challenges and lessons learned that come with it. This study uses a qualitative narrative approach with data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique is based on the theory of Miles and Huberman which includes: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings of this study are the constraints and lessons that can be drawn from this training. Some of the obstacles faced are preparation that requires sufficient time, language barriers, and differences in culture and rules in the two countries. Some lessons that can be taken from this experience are: international programs require sufficient time and careful preparation, it needs language mastery for facilitators according to the language of the trainees, and the rules and culture of the partner country or school need to be understood so that there is no misunderstanding between the organizer and the partner. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to offer insights into Indonesian students' experiences with using Google Sites-based ePortfolios to learn public speaking, particularly concerning setting objectives, selecting platforms, selecting content, and uploading their ePortfolio. This qualitative research data was gathered from twenty-two students who joined public speaking lesson at an English Language Education Study Program of a university in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, through interviews, observations, and documentation. In-depth interviews were conducted with six selected students of the class and a lecturer who supervised the course. Data analysis is carried out through the process data preparation, reduction and categorization, representation, and conclusion. The study's findings are as follows: first, while creating an ePortfolio, students desire to have a personal website that serves as a repository for all of their resources, assignments, and completed projects that are structured thoroughly, neatly, and conveniently online. Second, students use Google-Sites, as per the guidelines provided in class, to choose the platform. Students first faced several challenges. Students successfully developed their ePortfolio after learning from friends and instructions from various social media platforms.. Third, students get experience producing and publishing a variety of artifacts, including text, photos, audio, and video, while selecting content.. Four, students gain practice presenting their ePortfolio to instructors and fellow students and engaging in discussion about it when they publish one.

Abstract

The world of education needs to keep up with the development of information technology in providing learning services for students. One of the tools that is currently widely known for its advantages and widely used in developed countries is the electronic portfolio. The background of this program is a problem that is often faced by schools, namely the lack of teacher competence in developing learning by utilizing electronic portfolios in teaching. SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta (SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta), as one of the private schools in Yogyakarta that has a high concern for the application of information technology in learning, in collaboration with the Community Service Team of Ahmad Dahlan University carried out an electronic portfolio-based learning development training which was attended by teachers of various subjects and education staff who served in various school service units. The objective of this activity is to improve teachers' understanding and skills by using electronic portfolios to support the realization of quality learning. The methods used are training and mentoring for teachers to develop electronic portfolio- based learning, improving internet infrastructure, and monitoring and evaluation. This training has resulted in an increase in the trainees' understanding of the concept of electronic portfolios and the improvement of participants' skills as shown by a total of 43 participants who have been able to develop their electronic portfolios. To ensure the implementation of electronic portfolios in schools, the Principal has decided that six classes with IT (Information Technology) specialization consisting of two learning groups from Grade 7, Grade 8, and Grade 9 will implement electronic portfolio-based learning. The impact of this training is that teachers have a positive mindset towards the use of information technology so that it further increases the opportunity for schools to improve the quality of learning in accordance with technological developments.

Abstract

The complexity of the IRT analysis makes it difficult to perform manually, therefore requiring easy-to-use software. While many software options exist for IRT analysis, the high cost of paid software can make it inaccessible for many students and lecturers in Indonesia. While the mirt package provides a complete, free option for IRT analysis, it requires proficiency in the R programming language to use. This study aims to develop an R package for IRT analysis, equipped with a user-friendly interface based on the mirt package, designed to be easy to use for beginners in IRT analysis. The System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model is used for development, which includes five stages: Planning, Analysis, Design, Implementation, and System. The resulting package is named irtawsi and includes functionality comparable to paid software. This package can calibrate both test and non-test instruments using various IRT models, such as the Rasch, 2PL, 3PL, 4PL, GRM, PCM, and GPCM model. The irtawsi package functionality includes (1) an easy-to-use user interface, (2) automatic interpretation of analysis results, (3) a guide for IRT analysis, (4) recommendations when assumptions are not met, (5) an HTML report format for analysis results,(6) support for two languages (Indonesian and English), (7) it’s free, and (8) can be installed on Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems.
