Abstract

An experiment has been conducted to determine corrosion rate of medium carbon stell with sulfuric acid solution, Aquades 90,2% + H2SO4 9,8% and hydrochloric acid solution, Aquades 96,8% + HCl 3,2%. By using weight loss method, if medium carbon steel dipped into sulfuric acid solution then the corrosion rate is faster than it dipped into hydrochloric solution. If medium carbon steel dipped in a long time than the corrosion rate slowing down.

Abstract

Asphalt mixing plant machine is a tool used to process several materials into road asphalt, where it is necessary to know how to analyze the vibration characteristics of the asphalt mixing plant machine based on the capacity of making asphalt road in horizontal, vertical and longitudinal areas based on the time domain. The research method is carried out by collecting data on the amount of deviation, speed and acceleration that arise due to the processing of several materials so as to produce road asphalt based on differences in the capacity of different asphalt processed. Based on the measurement results, it is found that the highest vibration occurs at the asphalt mixing plant machine seat for a capacity of 60 tons/hour where the magnitude of the deviation is 0.222 mm in the horizontal direction at 100 seconds, the largest velocity is 11.99 mm/s horizontally in the second 40 mm/s and the largest acceleration is 369.7 mm/s2 in the horizontal direction of the 20th second. According to the ISO IS 2372 standard, the vibration of the Apollo ANP-1500 asphalt mixing plant machine enters class IV with a generator capacity above 75 KW, to be more precise (150KVA = 120KW). Then it can be analyzed that the generator vibration falls into the category of "vibration within tolerance limits and is only operated for a limited time" where the highest speed is 11.99 mm/s.

Abstract

In planning a power generation system using waste as an energy source, it is necessary to conduct an initial analysis of the potential local waste available. Not all waste can be used as the source of thermal energy by burning in an incinerator. Therefore, the selection is required to obtain the suitable waste and characterization to determine the potential thermal energy content in the waste. This article aims to obtain the electrical capacity produced from local waste to generate electricity in some regions of the city of Medan. The analysis is carried out on the availability of the waste and its potential for thermal energy generated. The selected incinerator of the fixed bed type with a two-stage air supply was explained comprehensively. Minimum pollution, high thermal conversion, and ease of operation are the critical point considered for the selected incinerator. The results revealed that 50 kWe was generated from a power plant system using waste. This amount of electricity can provide electricity for 25 households in the area where the case is located. This study is expected to provide sustainable waste management to the city of Medan in converting the waste into the household electricity supply.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the reasons that encourage the reuse of used materials in buildings. The data collection method was carried out by means of a questionnaire survey and interviews with respondents involved in the use of used materials, especially used wood. Respondents consist of used material traders, used material users, building contractors, foremen and building construction contractors who are used material producers. The research was carried out at used building material sales centers in Medan City, which are usually located on Jalan Pahlawan, Medan Perjuangan District, Jalan BrigJen Katamso, Jalan Gagak Hitam, and Jalan Helvetia Raya. Overall there were 10 respondents who participated. This study concludes that the main reason for using used wood materials is related to the price difference between used materials and new materials. Even though the use of used goods has a positive impact on efforts to preserve the environment, environmental conservation considerations have not become an important consideration in the use of used materials in the city of Medan.

Abstract

Drying is a mass transfer and heat transfer process that is strongly influenced by temperature and air velocity. The importance of analyzing the temperature distribution and air velocity is expected to be used as a reference to optimize the drying process to be faster and better. This study aims to analyze the temperature distribution and air velocity that occurs in a coffee bean dryer with a forced convection system using CFD simulation. CFD simulations are carried out using ANSYS Fluent software. with steady conditions, and using a pressure-based solver method. The obtained temperature distribution occurs with an estimated absorber temperature difference with the drying chamber is 31% during the day.

Abstract

The field of industry that produces human needs is growing rapidly. Encouraging increased productivity with iron metal-based machine components. Using quality materials, and certified. This research uses ST 60 steel with a carbon content of 0.48%.. The research process that will be carried out is Heat treatment is needed to minimize failure, change the structure, and form the desired properties, the rapid cooling process to produce a comparison of hardness in material variations, hardness testing to determine the hardness of a material, and observation of microstructure to observe the type of microstructure formed after heat treatment and without heat treatment. After testing, the heat treatment process greatly affects changes in the mechanical properties of the material, as evidenced by the increase in hardness values which initially before the heat treatment process amounted to 194.6 Kgrf / to 255.53 Kgrf / with SAE 40 lubricant cooling media, 220.43 Kgrf / with 50% lubricant cooling media with 50% water mixture, and 300, 7 Kgrf/ with long life coolant media and it is proven that in each material given heat treatment the hardness value has increased as well, before heat treatment the hardness value in ST 60 steel is only 194.6 Kgrf/, experiencing an increase in mechanical properties, namely work with SAE 40 lubricant cooling media with a value of 255.53 Kgrf/, 50% lubricant cooling media with 50% water mixture worth 220.43 Kgrf/ and long life coolant of 300.7 Kgrf/.
