Abstract

This research was aimed to describe the effectiveness of the use of aids in mathematics instruction in SMP, with: 1) compare the mathematics learning achievement of students who were taught using real aids with that of students who were taught using half-real aids.; 2) compare the mathematics learning mastery of the students from both schools categories. This research is a quasi-experiment with pretest-postest design with non-equivalent groups. This research used two experiment groups and two control groups. Population of this research was fifth grade students of state SMP in Detusoko. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select the sample. From the population, the researcher took two schools and every school consisted of two classes as a sample. The total of the sample are 100 people. Data were collected using test. The test were tried out to two groups of students. To compare the mathematics learning achievement of students, data were analyzed by descriptive statistic and inferential statistic by analysis of covariant (? =0.05) and was continued with Tukey-Kramer test (? =0.05), while to compare the mathematics learning mastery of the students, data were analyzed by Chi-Square test. The result of this research showed that: 1) from both schools categories the mathematics learning achievement of students who were taught using real aids is higher than that of students taught using half-real aids; 2) the mathematics learning mastery of high category school students who were taught using real aids is higher than that of high category school students who were taught using half-real aids; 3) the mathematics learning mastery of low category school students who were taught using real aids is not higher than that of low category school students who were taught using half-real aids; 4) from both schools categories the students who were taught using real aids, reach the mathematics learning mastery level, while the students who were taught using half-real aids, do not reach the learning mastery level.

Abstract

This research focused on the difficulty of students doing interaction activities in learning mathematics in school. Sometimes even smart students will get used to silence in class. Students are not accustomed to actively interacting, even though student activities are very important in the process of learning mathematics. Activities that occur in learning, include several aspects such as listening to the teacher's explanation, asking if there is something that has not been understood, answering the question of the teacher or other friends, having active discussions if allowed group work, solving practice questions if they are given by the teacher and so on. The activities included in it are interactive activities. Interaction in this research is an activity that occurs about the needs of the learning process, namely the relationship between teacher and student, student and teacher, student and student, and student and learning resources. The method used in this research is how the interaction that occurs is related to the interaction model. The expected results of this study are students can actively interact in every learning process in school.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the profile of students' critical thinking in solving realistic mathematical problems of geometry material in terms of learning styles. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Critical thinking in this study refers to critical thinking with FRISCO criteria. In this study, subjects were taken from students of class VII SMP N 2 Ende Selatan. Each student's research subjects have visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. Data collection is done by providing a Problem Solving Test (TPM) and an interview. The results obtained, subjects who have a visual learning style, critical thinking processes in solving realistic mathematical problems, able to understand problems, the subject has not been able to determine ways to solve problems, the subject has not been able to carry out the settlement and the subject does not re-examine. Subjects who have auditory learning styles, critical thinking profiles in solving realistic mathematical problems are able to understand problems, but the subject does not re-examine. Subjects who have kinesthetic learning styles of critical thinking processes in solving realistic mathematical problems are able to understand problems, are able to plan problems, subjects can carry out well and check the results.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the activities and learning outcomes of students on integer operating materials using beaded props. The type of research used is PTK research. The population used is all students of Grade Vll Grade SMP Sokoria, and the sample in this study was 20 Students of Class Vll SMP Negri Sokoria. The data analysis technique used is a descriptive statistic analysis. Based on activities in cycle I and cycle II, the percentage of students' learning outcomes increased, namely cycle I students who completed only 13 people or with a percentage of 65% while those who had not completed 7 people or with a percentage of 35%. While in cycle II students completed 20 people or with a percentage of 100%. From cycle I and cycle II, it can be concluded that the percentage of students' learning outcomes increase from 13 complete people to 20, complete people. All students sampled in this study achieved KKM scores.

Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) student activities in cooperative learning type STAD with the assistance of unloading rectangular material in class VII SMPK Alvarez Paga;(2) student learning outcomes on rectangular material in class VII SMPK Alvarez Paga through the application of the STAD type cooperative learning model assisted by the loading and unloading media. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research (PTK) which is conducted in two cycles. Each cycle has four stages of activity, namely: planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, tests, and documentation. The subjects in this study were students of class VII SMPK Alvarez Paga with 18 students consisting of 8 boys and 10 girls. Data analysis using observational data analysis techniques and data analysis techniques learning outcomes. The results of this study indicate the cooperative learning model type STAD with the assistance of unloading learning media can increase learning activities and learning outcomes of class VII students of SMPK Alvarez Paga.

Abstract

This study aims to improve critical thinking skills and student learning outcomes of geometry material by applying problem-based learning. This research is a type of classroom action research with the John Elliot model with four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation and reflection, which is carried out in two cycles. The data obtained were obtained from instruments in the form of an assessment rubric for critical thinking skills and tests to determine student learning outcomes on geometry material. The subjects in this study were class VII students of SMP Rewarangga Ende, totalling 20 people. Technical analysis of the data using a comparative descriptive technique between cycles. The results showed that: (1) there was an increase in students' critical thinking skills from the initial conditions, cycle 1, and cycle 2. In the initial condition the level of critical thinking skills in the critical category was only 43%, in cycle 1 76%, and in cycle 2 increased to 97%; (2) student learning outcomes of geometry material also increased. In the initial condition, only 42% of students experienced completeness, in cycle 1 it increased to 51% of students who completed, and in cycle 2 it increased to 68%.

Abstract

Learning mathematics must be related to the real context of everyday life. Contextual learning is learning within the context of everyday life, ethnomathematics is the knowledge that links mathematics with cultural elements, and ethnomathematics is the concept of knowledge about the development of mathematics in various cultures. This study aims to improve students' activities and learning outcomes through ethnomathematical-based contextual learning in terms of students' mathematical abilities. This type of research is classroom action research with four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, a reflection which is carried out in two cycles. Data were obtained from instruments in the form of rubrics for assessing students' mathematical abilities and tests to determine student learning outcomes. The subjects in this study were class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Ende Selatan, totaling 20 people. The data analysis technique used a comparative descriptive technique between cycles. The results showed that: (1) there was an increase in students' mathematical abilities from the initial conditions, cycle 1, and cycle 2. In the initial conditions students' mathematical abilities averaged 48%, with the implementation of the model in cycle 1 65%, and in cycle 2 80 %. (2) student learning outcomes have also increased. In the initial condition, only 37% of students experienced completeness, in cycle 1 it increased to 65% of students who completed, and in cycle 2 it increased to 86%.

Abstract

This study aims to find out mathematical concepts in the dolo-dolo dance movements of the Lamaholot community, East Flores Regency. This mathematical concept is used to determine the existence of mathematics in culture, especially in the culture of the East Flores area, namely in Klanelo Village. The type of research used was qualitative research and the subjects in this study were traditional elders and dolo-dolo dancers in Kawatelo Village, Demon Pagong District, East Flores Regency. In obtaining data, researchers use observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The data analysis technique uses data analysis techniques from Miles and Huberman which are divided into four stages including data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions and verification. Based on the data from the research and discussion, it can be concluded that the dolo-dolo dance movement has mathematical concepts, namely: 1) Points, 2) Lines among others: Vertical Lines and Horizontal Lines, 3) Angles including: Taper Angle, Right Angle and Obtuse Angle, 4) Circle.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the mathematical problem-solving abilities of MA/SMA/SMK students in terms of self-confidence of students who focus on trigonometry material. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive method. The subjects in this study were students of class X SMK Catholic St. Joseph Soa. The sampling technique used is the purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques in this study were tests, questionnaires and interviews. The research instrument used was a test of mathematical problem-solving ability in the form of descriptions, self-confidence questionnaires and interview sheets. The data analysis technique uses questionnaire analysis, questions, interviews and data analysis (data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions). The results showed that the self-confidence of the tenth graders of SMK Catholic St. Yoseph Soa is divided into three, namely high, medium and low. The mathematical problem-solving ability of students with a high level of self-confidence is able to meet the four problem-solving indicators according to Polya. The mathematical problem-solving ability of students with moderate self-confidence is only able to meet indicators 1, 2 and 3. The problem-solving ability of students with low self-confidence is not able to meet the four problem-solving indicators according to Polya.

Abstract

Formal education is one vehicle ‘for building quality human resources. The quality of human resources is very dependent on various aspects. One aspect that supports formal education is learning mathematics. This study aims to improve students' mathematical abilities and learning outcomes through a problem-based learning approach. This type of research is classroom action research with four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection carried out in two cycles. Data was obtained from the instrument in the form of observations of mathematical thinking in the category of students' mathematical attitudes and tests to determine student learning outcomes. The subjects in this study were 20 class VII students of SMP Rewarangga Ende. The data analysis technique uses a comparative descriptive technique between cycles. The study results show an increase in students' mathematical thinking skills from the lowest initial level of 19% to 100% after the learning process in cycle II was carried out. At the same time, student learning outcomes have increased. This is known from the completeness of student learning outcomes, namely that from the initial test 20% increased in cycle II to 100%. Therefore, it can be concluded that Problem-Based learning can improve students' mathematical thinking and student learning outcomes in class VII students of SMP Rewarangga Ende.
