Abstract

Lasut, M.Hum2                                    Dr. Garryn Ch. Ranuntu, S.Pd, M.Hum3           This research is entiteled “The References and Sense in sentences used in Song of Songs”. The aims of this research are to identify and classify the kinds of references and to analyze and describe the meanings of references and sense in sentences used in Song of Songs. The method used in this research is descriptive method. The data of reference and sense have been taken in sentences from the holy bible with the new international version. The data were analyzed based on Saeed’s (2003), Hurford’s (2007), and Riemer’s (2010) theories. The result of this research shows there are two kinds of references in Song of Songs, those are constant and variabel reference. Constant reference is an expression that refers to an object only, expressions like Libanon and Damascus are sometimes described as having constant reference. Variable reference is an expression that refers to many references, expressions like I, you, she, he, we, they, us etc are said to have variable reference. Abstract

                                                    ABSTRACT      This study entitled “Illocutionary Act in the Gospel of Matthew: A Pragmatic Analysis”. The method that is used in this research is descriptive method. The purpose of this study is to identify, classify and analyze the kinds and functions of ilocutionary act in the Gospel of Matthew. The collected data have been analyzed by using theory of Searle (1979) in Leech (1983). There are four kinds of illocutionary act in the Gospel of Matthew, those are assertives, directives, commisives, and declaratives. While expressives were not spoken by the characters in the Gospel of Matthew. The illocutionary functions of assertives in this Gospel are stating, another functions as, asserting, suggesting, complaining, reporting were not found in the verses of the Gospel of Matthew, the illocutionary functions of directives which were used by Jesus, His disciples, and other characters were requesting, commanding, advising, asking. ordering and recommending function are not found in the Gospel of Matthew. The illocutionary functions of commisives is promising. While functions like uttering are not stated, the illocutionary functions of declaration which are used in the Gospel of Matthew are granting and naming. Functions of promoting and punishing were not found in the Gospel of Matthew. The significance of this research is to give contribution of the language development in linguistic study especially in analyzing illocutionary act through pragmatic analysis. Keywords: Illocutionary Act, Kinds and Functions, Gospel of Matthew.

Abstract

                                                   ABSTRACT     This research entitles “Expressive act in the Film Divergent by Neil Burger”. The aims of this research is to identify, classify, and analyze the expressive act utterances and their functions in Divergent film. This research used descriptive method. The data were collected from conversation among characters, then classified and analyzed according to the concept of Searle (1970). In collecting the data, the writer reads some pragmatic books pertaining to expressive act. After that, the writer watch the film and looks the whole story of the film to obtain good understanding of the context of the story in the film. Then the writer identified and classified the data into function of expressive act. The collected data were analyzed descriptively in terms of the function of expressive act found in the film Divergent based on Searle’s theory. The research showes that the expressive act can be categorized into six categories, those are apologizing, pardoning, praising, thanking, congratulating, and condoling, and how the function of expressive act used by the characters. Abstract

                                                       ABSTRACT     This research entitled “Kata-Kata Pinjaman Bahasa Inggris dalam Bahasa Indonesia pada Naskah Pidato Presiden Jokowi”. This speech was read by President Jokowi in MPR RI (People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic Indonesia) Annual Meeting, 16 August 2019. The aim of this research is to discuss the loanwords in a speech text. The objectives of research are to find out, classify, analyze and describe the kinds and the changes of the meanings of English loanwords in Indonesian language. This research uses a descriptive method. In analyzing the data, the writer uses Haugen’s theory in Greavu’s Journal Observations to find out the types and Baugh’s theory to get the changes of meanings. To support the analysis, the writer uses Oxford Dictionary and Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia. The result of this research shows that based on the theory of Haugen there are three kinds of loanword that could be found in President Jokowi’s speech. Those are loanword without phonemic substitution, loanword with partial phonemic substitution, loanword with complete phonemic substitution and there are two kinds of the changes of meaning such as extention and narrowing, but regeneration and degeneration process are not found in those loanwords. Abstract

                                                   ABSTRACT     This research entitled “Ekspresi Verbal dan Non-verbal dalam Mengekspresikan Ketakutan dan Kemarahan dalam Film Ready or Not oleh Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillet (Analisis Psikolinguistik)”. Communication can be divided into two classes, verbal communication and non-verbal communication. Verbal communication is when we communicate our message verbally. It requires the use of words, vocabulary and the symbols. Non verbal communication includes facial expression, gestures, tone, body – movement, eye – contact, mannerism, paralinguistics, humour, language of touch etc. Some of types of fear is anxiety, apprehension, nervousness, concern,consternation, wriness, qualm, edginess, dread, fright, terror, phobia, panic. The some of types of anger is fury,outrage, vexation, annoyance, pathological hatred, an violence. The objectives of this research is to Identify, classify, and analyze the types of communication in fear and anger expression in the movie Ready or Not. The researcher used descriptive method in order to find out the verbal and non-verbal expression in fear and anger expression in the movie Ready or Not supported by Gubta (2008) and Goleman’s (1995) theory. The result of this research shows the expression of fear can be detected through shaking hands and other movements such as rubbing the nape of the neck, the tone of voice that rises and falls, the sentence of pauses, eye contact that indicates pleading and panic. Expression of anger can also be identified through body movements such as hitting, pointing with the index finger, choking, the presence of an exclamation mark at the end of a sentence in a high tone of voice, eye contact that shows annoyance or defiant gaze, and emotional behavior.Keywords : Expression, Verbal, Non-verbal, Fear, Anger, Ready or Not

Abstract

                                                     ABSTARCT     This research is conducted in order to improve students’ vocabulary in English by using Total Physical Response (TPR) method in the second grade of SD GMIM 7 Manado. The aims of this research are to describe the implementation of TPR and to measure the improvement of students’ vocabulary after the implementation of TPR method. The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the research method. To collect the data the researcher did pre-test, treatment, and post-test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used a simple statistical analysis from the students’ pre-test and post-test score. The research finding showed that Total Physical Response method can improve students’ English vocabulary. This could be proven by looking at the increasing students’ post-test result after the implementation of Total Physical Response method in the learning process. The students got 65 in average from the result of pre-test and it has been increased for the post-test, the students’ got 92. In average result of post-test was higher than pre-test’s average result. The students’ score improved by 42% after the implementation of TPR. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that Total Physical Response is effective in improving students’ vocabulary.________________Keywords: CAR, Vocabulary, Total Physical Response, Elementary School.

Abstract

Lasut3 This study entitled “ Illocutionary Act in Whatsapp Group Brighter “, is an analysis of pragmatic investigation that focuses on one aspect of speech acts called the illocutionary act. This research is an attempt to find out the kinds and functions of the illocutionary act in the Whatsapp group. The research uses descriptive qualitative method. The collected data were taken from the chat of the members of the group based on the theory of Searle. The research finding shows that there are three categories of illocutionary acts in Whatsapp Group Brighter. Those are assertives : asserting, stating, suggesting, and complaining. directives : requesting, commanding, begging, commanding and expressives : caviling and deep condolences. Abstract

                                                    ABSTRACT      The title of this research is “Konjungsi dalam Kitab Yosua”. It is written to identify, classify and analyze the forms, functions and meanings of conjunctions in The Book of Joshua in The Bible. The method that is used in this research is descriptive method and the data of conjunctions were taken from The Book of Joshua in The Bible. The data have been analyzed by using theory of Aarts and Aaarts (1982) and Quirk and Greenbaum (1999). The result of this research shows the forms, functions and meanings of conjunctions in The Book of Joshua in The Bible. The forms that have been found namely coordinating conjunctions that consist of and, or, for, but and subordinating conjunctions that consist of that, if, as, because, until, when, where, after and before. The functions that have been found are coordinating conjunctions connect sentences, phrases and words, and subordinanting conjunctions connect sentences, clauses and phrases. The meanings that have been found are coordinating conjunctions express sequence of ideas, one clause/idea as a result of another, alternative combination, sequential implication, unexpected contrast and express affirmative to what is stated negatively in the first section, and subordinating conjunctions express clause and sentence that express reason or purpose, effect of something that will happen, statement which express something that is being mentioned, reason, something that is happening, point of something that happen, place of something that happen, something that happen later at a time and express the meaning earlier than the time of event.⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺Keywords: Conjunctions, Forms, Functions and Meanings, The Book of Joshua

Rambing, DEA 3     This research is entitled “Minor Sentences in the Film Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalkers Directed by J.J.Abrams.” The objective of this research are to identify, classify, and anylize the types of minor sentences and to describe the function of the minor sentences. This research uses descriptive method. In analyzing the data, the writer used the theory of Charless Hockett (1958) and Cook (1969: 54-60), and the data were taken from film Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker directed by J.J.Abrams. The result of this research shows that there are four types of minor sentences in the film, such as subjectless minor sentence 39 sentences, vocatif minor sentence 47 sentences, aphorictic minor sentence 5 sentences, and fragment minor sentence which are categorized into three minor sentences that are completive fragment minor sentence 17 sentences, special completive fragment minor sentence 11 sentences, and exclamatory minor sentence 4 sentences. The minor sentence functioning as addition sentence are 3 sentences, response sentence are 28 sentences, and exclamatory sentence which are categorized into three minor sentences that are calls 8 sentences, greetings 4 sentences and interjection 4 sentences.-------------------------------------------------------Keywords: Minor Sentences, Functions, Descriptive Method, Film Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker.

Abstract

                                                     ABSTRACT     This research is entilend “Simbol-Simbol Takhayul dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Galela Suatu Analisis Kontrastif”. The purposes of this study are to identify and classfy superstitious symbols in English and Galela,and to analyze and describe the diffrences and similiraties of superstitious symbols in English and Galela langguage this research focuses on semiotic analysis by looking at the cases and meaning of superstitious symbols. This research used a descriptive method. The writer uses the theory of Charles B Luck (2016), Delacroix dan Guilland (2008) and Pierce (1958, quoted by Westle and Fokler, 2018) and Lado‟s (1957) theory‟s to contrasting both langguage to find out the differences and similarity. Researcher collected the data about English symbols from semiotic books, journals, theses and articles related to linguistic and looked for information on internet in research blogs that contain discussions about superstitious symbols that exist in England and also in British Empire, and Galela language data were taken by reading articles on the internet that discussed superstition in Indonesia and directly asking informants who still believe in superstitious The result of this study indicates that English has seventy-one types of superstitious symbols and the Galela language has forty-eight kinds of superstitious symbols. It has been found that there are four different superstitious symbols in English and Galela, namely motion and action, inanimate objects, animal and food, some similarities and different beliefs in the situation, as well as the meaning contained in each superstitious symbol.Keyword : Superstitious Symbol, SemioticEnglish and Galela Language,Contrastiv Analysis
