Abstract

Land fires are an annual agenda in Indonesia, especially in areas covered by peatlands. Peatland management using fire is the main cause. The general paradigm for land fires is that the farmers' economy is low. In fact, the factors that cause land fires are not only from the economic aspect, but from the social and institutional aspects which affect the behavior of farmers. Therefore, the purpose of this study is (1) to analyze the correlation of factors that influence land burning behavior, and (2) to determine the model for the changing of burning behavior into non burning farm land cultivation, in order to prevent land fire in Kuburaya Disrict and Bengkayang District, West Kalimantan. The research involved farmers farming on peatlands in both districts. Regression models was used for the correlation analysis. Based on the results of the regression analysis, a land burning behavior change model was determined based on the influencing factors descriptively. The result of the analysis showed the factors that significantly influence land burning behavior at the household level are knowledge level (consist of farming problems faced by farmers, agricultural extension materials and the application of technology), observance of rules, activeness of mutual assistance, cosmopolitan level, appraisal on burning behavior, and imitation level. The resulting model for changing the behavior of burning land is implementing activity of assistance, social capital stimulus and positive agreements/ pressure to the land users.

Abstract

Food security, denoting the adequacy of food supply in terms of both quantity and quality for individuals within a given state, is a critical aspect of societal well-being. This research focuses on assessing the food security status of households engaged in peatland cultivation in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. The chosen research site, Siantan Hilir, was purposively selected due to its prominence as a hub for horticultural agricultural production within the sub-district. The study encompassed a population of 719 individuals, with a sample size of 42 respondents determined using the slovin formula. Primary data was procured through the observation and the administration of questionnaires to farmers, supplemented by secondary data. The findings unveiled a noteworthy trend where the household income of farmers exceeded their expenditures. However, a significant challenge emerged in the form of food expenditure constituting 64.86% of the total expenditures, thereby underscoring potential obstacles to maintaining food security. Furthermore, the moderate categorization of energy adequacy and the stark revelation that 88% of households lacked food security underscored the imperative for enhancements in managing food expenditures and refining consumption patterns in Siantan Hilir.

Abstract

Import tariff of Indonesian-Australian wheat flour has been changed from 4% to 0% have implications for wheat flour prices in both countries. This research aims to determine the import tariffs effect on the price of Indonesian-Australian wheat flour and the CIF price of wheat flour. Descriptive quantitative is applied in this research method, with the approach of Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) and Granger Causality Test. The Granger Causality Test results analysis showed that there is a unidirectional causality relationship between HEI with HEA, HEA with KURS, TARIF with HEA, and TARIF with KURS. VECM’s results showed the import tariffs had a significant positive effect of the Indonesian-Australian wheat flour price and the CIF price in the long run. The Impulse Response Function (IRF) results analysis for the next 20 periods show that the highest responses given by HCIF, HEA, HEI, and TARIF is responses by variable itself and the highest responses given by KURS is TARIF. The Variance Decomposition results analysis for the next 20 periods show that the largest contribution given to HCIF, HEA, HEI, and TARIF is the variable itself and the largest contribution given to KURS is TARIF.

Abstract

: In order to promote farming operations and enhance the welfare of the farmers themselves, there is an urgent and essential requirement for farmers to strengthen farmer group structures. However, most farmers still don't understand the importance of farmer groups, particularly in Ketapang Regency. Therefore, the goal of this research is to determine how farmers perceive the role that farmer groups have played thus far, as well as what institutional issues are preventing and encouraging an increase in agricultural production. In order to determine the best course of action for raising agricultural output in Ketapang Regency. The research is conducted in 6 sub-districts in Ketapang Regency. While the respondents were food crop and vegetable farmers come to 60 people. The method of taking respondents is by purposive sampling. The results of the study show that the institutional role of production facilities, agricultural machinery, capital and marketing has not run optimally. It is necessary to strengthen institutions so that it is expected to increase farmers' access to these institutions. Acceleration of borrowing agricultural tools and sharing information is a priority effort to do because it has an impact on increasing agricultural productivity in Ketapang Regency.

Abstract

Indonesia ranks second in the world for high food loss and waste levels, totaling 300 kg per capita per year. Most of these losses occur during harvesting and post-harvest stages before the produce reaches the consumer. This research aimed to determine the correlation between these stages and production loss. The research was conducted using a descriptive quantitative method in Sungai Besar Village, Ketapang Regency, from November 2022 to February 2023. The respondents in this study were 89 farmers in the village. The results showed that each stage, including the harvesting and post-harvest stages, was correlated to yield loss. The yield loss at each stage varied greatly and is affected by several factors, including harvest age, harvesting methods, tools, rice varieties, threshing mechanisms, threshing delays, drying duration, drying medium size, grain cleaning, raw grain materials, maturity level, and milling machines. The percentage of yield loss ranges from 2 to 4.46% (in the harvesting and threshing stages), 0.52 to 1.55% (in the drying stage), and 1 to 2,5% (in the milling stage). Keywords: rice, food loss, harvester, post-harvest

Abstract

Every year, up to 1.3 trillion tons of global food produced for human use are lost or wasted. Consumer behavior is a major cause of food waste. In Indonesia, households generate approximately 38% of total food waste. The goal of this study is to evaluate at how attitudes toward behavior, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and intention to reduce food waste affect food waste behavior in households. The theory of planned behavior (TPB) was used to conduct the survey, which included 160 independent oil palm farmer homes. The collected data was then examined using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with the AMOS 24 program. The findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the TPB model in forecasting household food waste behavior. Attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, and goal to reduce food waste are the factors that influence household food waste behaviors. The study's findings show that perceived behavioral control is the most important predictor of food waste behavior. Furthermore, the findings demonstrate that attitudes and subjective norms can predict the intention to reduce household food waste. Meanwhile, the desire to eliminate food waste appears to be a strong predictor of one's attitude on the amount of food waste produced. Abstract

This study aims to assess the feasibility of the oil palm nursery business in Meliau District, Sanggau Regency. In this study, the sampling method applied was saturated sampling, selecting a total of 10 respondents. The data sources comprised both primary and secondary data, which were then analyzed through descriptive analysis, revenue analysis, cost analysis, income analysis, and an assessment of business feasibility. Based on the calculations conducted by the author, the average total production cost is Rp 6,247,330 per hectare per farmer. During one production period, the average revenue earned by farmers is Rp 9,520,000 per farmer per period. The average income from the oil palm business in Meliau Sub-district, Sanggau District, is IDR 3,272,670 per hectare per farmer per period, which is then reduced by a mortality rate of 20%. Therefore, the net income of farmers is Rp 2,618,405 per hectare per farmer per period, which is obtained from the calculation of the R/C ratio, which is 1.57, meaning that the oil palm seedling breeding business in Meliau District, Sanggau Regency, is feasible and can be developed in the coming years.

Abstract

Indonesia is the largest producer of palm oil in the world, with a significant increase in plantation area, yet faces the challenge of increasing old and damaged plants affecting productivity. To address this, oil palm replanting is necessary, with government support to ensure the sustainability and productivity of independent smallholder plantations. The purpose of this study is to understand the management of oil palm replanting by independent farmers in Meliau District, Sanggau Regency. This research, which uses a qualitative descriptive method and utilizes both primary and secondary data, involves a sample of 40 respondents who are independent farmers. The results show that the replanting process in Sungai Kembayau Village using the mass clearing method demonstrates a strong commitment to long-term productivity improvement of the plantations. However, there are deviations from standard operating procedures that can affect the efficiency and outcomes of replanting, such as variability in chipping thickness, neglect of cover crop use, and inconsistencies in pest control dosing.
