Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze (1) the correlation of factors that affect the spread of forest fire indication, and (2) the pattern of distribution, land burning time, and the public perception of combustion in Kubu Raya and Bengkayang Districts. The research activities were carried out in 12 villages in Kubu Raya and Bengkayang Districts during the month of November 2014 until January 2014. The research method is using correlation analysis and descriptive to explain the distribution patterns, land burn time, and the public perception of combustion. The results showed: 1) there is a relationship between the purpose of combustion (open land and eradicate weeds) with the population, and there is no relationship between the objectives of land combustion on the combustion behavior of the land associated with the main types of cultivated plants, and there is a correlation to the density of hotspots, the density of dry land farming and bush, shrub/ swamp density, marsh density, density of plantation, and density of open land. 2) The pattern of the farmers burning rice, horticulture and perenninal crops were classified into the type of the pattern of spots and the perception is part of a burning activities,  type with ash beds and lodge with the perception of not being a part of burning activities, and type with only one time burning on the stages of land preparation, and type with in the eradication of weeds. Abstract

Coconut (Cocos nucifera L.) is one of the most developed plantation commodities in West Kalimantan. However, the coconut has a problem with the structure of agribusiness, namely the alignment (integration) that is closely related to the availability of the coconut. This research aims to see the level of proximity of coconut regional market relationship with other regional markets in West Kalimantan represented by Bengkayang Regency, Mempawah, and Sambas district, which analyzed using vector autoregression (VAR) to examine the long-term relationship.  The integration of coconut production in Bengkayang, Mempawah, and Sambas districts was analyzed using the Granger causality test. The data used is the annual quantitative secondary data for 14 years in the time range between 2004 and 2017, which must be stationary at the first difference level. This study showed that West Kalimantan's production experienced some two-way causality relationship and some only one way. Production of Bengkayang affects Sambas, but the production of Sambas does not affect the production of Bengkayang. This finding indicates a one-way causality relationship. It is suggested that the government needs to add and improve infrastructure facilities for market players, and market players must follow production method information through electronic media or related institutions (for example, Department of Agriculture).

Abstract

Studi ini menerapkan metode MICMAC (Matrix of Cross Impact Multiplications Applied to a Classification) sebagai alat analisisnya. This problem can further marginalize the vulnerable groups in rural areas, food insecurity, and widen social inequality. This study aimed to analyze the determinants of the sustainability of rainfed rice farming in the village of Telaga Arum; a coastal village located in the subdistrict of Seponti, Kayong Utara regency, West Kalimantan. This study applies the MICMAC (Matrix of Cross Impact Multiplications Applied to a Classification) method as an analytical tool. The results of the study show that the sustainability of rice farming is strongly influenced by indicators of the presence of oil palm commodities, climate indicators, and soil fertility. These three indicators can cause disturbances to the rice farming system in the short and long term. The oil palm expansions which reach an average area of roughly 1300 hectares per year has become a real threat to the rice fields especially in the last five years in Kayong Utara regency. This study also found the farmer’s motivation is an aspect that is the most affected in the long term perspective and tends to decline because the rice farming motivation is only to fulfill subsistence needs.

Abstract

Production and prices of palm oil do not necessarily guarantee that farmers in Belangin Village get high income from farming activities, this is due to the FFB transportation process from the plantation to the Palm Oil Mill (PKS). Smooth or not and the length of time for FFB transportation will determine the amount of income received by farmers. The longer FFB in the truck, the lower quality of FFB, and the risk will be lower the price received by farmers. Simple random sampling (Simple Random Sampling) by taking as many as 38 respondents from 287 oil palm farmers. The analysis used is the coefficient of variation and multiple linear regression analysis. The coefficient of variation obtained is based on the calculation of 0,1242. This means that the risks that occur can still be controlled by taking into account the costs of farming expenses and increasing productivity. Through the F-Statistic test simultaneously, the independent variables are known to simultaneously affect the risk of oil palm farming income Partially, the variable distance (X1) and waiting time in line for scales (X2) has a negative but not significant effect on the risk of farm income (Y). Meanwhile, the variable of transportation costs (X3) has a negative but significant effect on the risk of farm income (Y)

Abstract

Many factors destroy peat ecosystems, including land fires. The cause of the fire was motivated by economic aspects, namely land clearing for agricultural, plantation, and residential activities. Desa Peduli Gambut Program has main activities: strengthening local knowledge and village community preparedness in dealing with peat fire disasters and non-burning land management. The process requires the participation of farmers as an essential determining factor to ensure the success and sustainability of a program. This study analyzes farmer participation in the DPG program in Teluk Pekedai District. The descriptive quantitative method is supported by qualitative data using Sherry Arnstein's (1969) participation level analysis. The analysis results show that farmer participation in the DPG program in Teluk Pekedai District is at the therapy level. The low level of community participation in a program occurs because the level of government domination in deciding program plans is the cause of problems in program implementation. Farmer participation can increase by the role of the DPG chairperson, the role of the village facilitator, the village government and local government, and all elements of the community (community leaders).
