Abstract

Physical activity with eccentric movements has the potential to cause delayed pain after 24 hours. Efflurage and shaking manipulation are thought to be able to reduce delayed pain due to these activities. This study attempts to prove this hypothesis by conducting a study with a pretest and posttest experimental design. 15 people were selected using a purposive sampling method and then divided into 3 groups (X1: efflurage, X2: shaking, X3: control). Delayed pain was produced through squats, sumo squats, and lunges in 4 sets of 12 repetitions. Efflurage and shaking manipulations were performed for 10 minutes. Pain intensity was measured using a visual analogue scale. Pain intensity was measured 24, 48, and 72 hours after eccentric activity. In the first 24 hours, all groups experienced excruciating pain (VAS> 8). After intervention, the VAS value of X1 decreased by 38% in the first 24 hours, then decreased by 23.8% in the second 24 hours, and decreased by 38% in the third 24 hours. Meanwhile, the VAS X2 value decreased consecutively from 46.34% to 21.95% to 29.26% in the first to third 24 hours. The influence and difference test of X1 and X2 showed significant results (p <0.05) in the measurements of 24, 48, and 72 hours. The conclusion of the study showed that the response of shaking manipulation in reducing pain intensity occurred in the first 24 hours, while effluent manipulation successfully eliminated pain completely at 72 hours.

Abstract

Decline in functional movement quality often occurs with age, particularly in individuals aged 32-50 years, who begin experience reduced flexibility, stability and motor control. Risk of injury can assessed by identifying the presence of compensatory movements or a loss of functional balance during physical activities. One of tools used for this pipose in Functional Movement Screen (FMS), which is effective in predicting sport-related injuries. This study to evaluate FMS scores in this age group and identifity potential injury risk based on screening results. With quantitative design and Functional Movement Screen (FMS) for method. The study involved 12 participans aged 32-50 years, and must to do seven standard FMS test : Deep Squat, Hurdle Step, In-Line Lunge, Shoulder Mobility, Active Straight Leg Raise, Trunk Stability Push-Up, and Rotary Stability. The results showed that 10 participants scored ≤14 points, which fall into the high-risk category. 2 participans scored between 15-18 points. The avarage FMS score at senior basketball athletes was 13.08 (high-risk category). It’s mean imbalance  muscle function between upper and lower body movements, which may increase the likelihood of injury particularly among older athletes. Therefore, FMS serves as valuable screening tool to identify injury prevention strategies in senior basketball players.

Abstract

Good physical performance must also prioritize metabolic health. Metabolic health is influenced by body composition, including muscle mass and visceral fat. Muscle mass plays a role in the performance and quality of body metabolism, while visceral fat around the liver, pancreas, and intestines is an indicator of metabolic health that affects insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and metabolic diseases. Good training is needed to find the right recipe for maximizing muscle mass and controlling visceral fat levels. This study aims to compare muscle mass and visceral fat in female aquatic athletes to see health parameters without neglecting performance. This study used a cross-sectional design involving 15 subjects from female swimming and diving athletes from the KONI Malang City pool. Measurement of muscle mass and visceral fat used a BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis) tool. Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between muscle mass and visceral fat. The results showed that all research subjects had low muscle mass with a maximum value of 21.03 and visceral fat in the high category of 0.67. Low muscle mass is likely caused by suboptimal training outcomes or by strength training not maximizing muscle mass composition, while high visceral fat can be influenced by poor nutritional management by athletes. Physical performance and metabolic health are crucial, especially in optimizing muscle mass and minimizing visceral fat. Low muscle mass is caused by inadequate training methods, particularly strength training, including a lack of attention to training principles such as intensity, frequency, and loading.
