Abstract

This article discusses about the communication process in preventing workplace accidents at PT. Semen Padang. The communication process in preventing work accidents at PT. Semen Padang consists of primary communication processes and secondary communication processes. Communication consists of verbal and nonverbal communication. Communication occurs in one way, two ways, and multi-communication. Communicators in the prevention of workplace accidents at PT. Semen Padang is the Department of HSE, messages delivered include occupational health and safety regulations, goals and objectives and work safety and health programs, and information on potential hazards. Submission of messages is carried out through publications, socialization and occupational health and safety training. Communicators consist of employees, vendors and contractors, and other related parties. The effect of communication is increasing awareness and concern for work safety, increasing knowledge and expertise in occupational health and safety, and a positive image of PT. Semen Padang. In this process there is feedback in the form of responses, questions and input related to occupational health and safety, and other important information that is very useful for continuous improvement of the Occupational Safety and Health Management System of PT. Semen Padang. Obstacles from the communication process are Process Obstacles, Physical Barriers, Semantic Barriers, and Psychosocial Barriers.

Abstract

The Singgalang newspaper is one of the oldest newspapers in West Sumatra, which faces stiff competition from digital media. Changes in reader behavior and the increasing use of digital technology have influenced the existence of the Singgalang daily newspaper. In this case, the application of media convergence can help the Singgalang daily newspaper increase reader reach and content quality. The Singgalang daily newspaper provides the latest innovation with the emergence of online media. Media convergence theory according to Henry Jenkins, convergence brings together the 3Cs, namely computing (data on computers), communication (communication), and content (content material). The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive approach. . The techniques used in this research are: interviews, observation and documentation. Analysis activities consist of three activity streams that occur simultaneously, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. Based on data obtained from research results regarding the Implementation of Media Convergence by the Singgalang Daily Newspaper in the Digital Era, the following conclusions can be drawn: In implementing computing, the Singgalang Daily Newspaper uses digital technology to convey information in real-time through various platforms such as websites, Instagram and Facebook, so that readers can access news anytime and anywhere. Communication by using interactive features such as comment, like and share columns, Singgalang Daily can build closer relationships with its audience. The content varies, from viral news to the latest information. The use of various content formats, such as photos, videos and infographics, helps capture the audience's attention and increase their engagement with the news. The supporting factors for Singgalang Daily in implementing media convergence are history and trust as one of the oldest newspapers in West Sumatra. The inhibiting factors for Singgalang Daily are the use of a small server on the website, inadequate human resources and limited budget to support media convergence

Abstract

In today's increasingly developing digital and social media era, the role of influencers in social media advertising is becoming increasingly important. Many parties, both individuals, companies and other agencies use the services of influencers in their social media ads. This is inseparable from their ability to influence the opinions and even behavior of their followers, including in the context of purchasing decisions and using services. In West Sumatra itself, there are quite a lot of social media ads that use the services of influencers in social media ads. One of the influencer figures that is used quite often is Verio Hasferi or better known as Uda Rio. Uda Rio is one of the Content Creators who has many followers on his various social media accounts. This study explains how the motive for the use of Influencers in social media advertising in West Sumatra by taking a case study on the use of Uda Rio as an Influencer in social media advertising using the concept approach of the communicator condition theory which includes aspects of credibility, attractiveness and strength. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The determination of informants in this study uses a purposive mechanism by setting informant criteria. The data collection techniques used in this study are in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis in this study uses Miles and Huberman analysis techniques, namely data codification, data presentation, and conclusion / verification. The result of this study is that the motive for using Uda Rio as an influencer in social media advertising in West Sumatra is based on credibility and attractiveness factors. The attraction factor is the main and most dominant consideration used as a reason for choosing influencers.

Abstract

This study examines the crisis communication strategies implemented by the Public Relations department of PT. Hayati Pratama Mandiri in Padang City in response to the fractured Enhanced Smart Architecture Frame (ESAF) issue in Honda motorcycles. The study adopts the Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) proposed by Coombs, which emphasizes that public attributions toward a crisis influence an organization's reputation. This theory also highlights the importance of protecting the public and stakeholders rather than merely preserving the company's image. The findings reveal that PT. Hayati Pratama Mandiri employed a well-planned and transparent crisis communication strategy, utilizing adaptive and dynamic approaches to manage the situation. The company conducted a thorough investigation, provided 24-hour customer service, and enhanced frame protection against corrosion. Its open and responsive communication approach effectively mitigated negative impacts and restored brand perception among consumers. This research underscores that crisis management and communication are vital elements in Public Relations functions. With the right strategy, the company not only managed the crisis effectively but also reinforced its reputation as a responsible and quality-oriented entity. This study offers valuable insights into best practices in crisis communication that can be applied to similar challenges in the future.

Abstract

In accordance with the lecturers’ obligations in the Odd Semester of the 2024/2025 academic year as part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, one of the activities carried out was a Community Service Program entitled: “Self-Awareness: Becoming the Best Version of Yourself Through Self-Discovery” (a seminar held at Aisyiyah Orphanage, Padang). This activity served as both a responsibility in implementing the Tri Dharma and a social contribution from UNIDHA lecturers to the community. One important societal group that requires special attention is children in orphanages who are undergoing identity development. Many of them grow up in pressured environments and lack a proper understanding of themselves and the importance of mental health. Therefore, it is essential to provide early education on self-awareness and emotional regulation. The ability to recognize personal potential, understand emotions, and develop healthy interpersonal communication can help these children grow into more confident and resilient individuals. In this program, the UNIDHA team of lecturers provided training and guidance on self-reflection, mental strength, and empathic communication. Using methods such as lectures, interactive discussions, and simulations, participants were guided to formulate personal growth steps with a positive impact on themselves and their surroundings.Keywords: Self-awareness, Mental Health, Self-Reflection, Empathic Communication, Orphanage

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the communication strategy implemented by the Public Communication Information Management Sub-sector at the Sijunjung Regency Communication and Informatics Office in disseminating information to the public. Communication strategy is an important element in increasing transparency and effectiveness in delivering public information. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation. Informants in this study consisted of the head of the office, the head of the public communication information management division, and the community as supporting informants. The results of the study show that the communication strategy implemented includes the use of digital and social media, collaboration with mass media, direct communication with the community, and the use of digital technology and applications. Although the strategy implemented is quite effective, there are several obstacles, such as limited expertise in managing digital systems, limited information technology infrastructure in several areas, and dependence on digital platforms that have not reached all levels of society. To overcome these obstacles, the Sijunjung Regency Communication and Informatics Office developed a village communication network and utilized conventional media to expand the reach of information. With a good communication strategy, it is hoped that public information services in Sijunjung Regency can be increasingly optimal and able to meet the community's needs for accurate, fast, and transparent information.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the policies or programs of the Solok Regency Nasdem Party in realizing one of its political goals through Anies Baswedan's socialization. In writing this thesis, the author uses a qualitative approach with a qualitative descriptive method, namely, a method for revealing problems by explaining or describing what is in the research by linking the Use and Gratification theory and Hafied Cangara's communication strategy concept. The result of the discussion of this thesis is that the communication strategy implemented by the Solok Regency Nasdem party in the socialization of Anies Baswedan is structured communication from central leadership to administrators to cadres in Solok Regency so that the message can be conveyed evenly. Communication strategy explains the stages in a series of communication activities based on procedures for implementing communication goals. According to Hafied Cangara, there are 5 stages of communication strategy, namely Research, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation and Reporting. The media used are communication media such as billboards distributed in several places, tote bags, calendars and also social media such as the official central Nasdem website, Instagram, WA, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and so on.

Abstract

Satu Nagari Satu Event (SNSE) is one of the flagship programs of the Regent of Tanah Datar, aimed at promoting regional tourism through events grounded in local culture and traditional wisdom. The limited effectiveness of culture-based tourism promotion at the local level, along with the uneven participation of villages in the SNSE program, where only 46 out of 75 villages in Tanah Datar Regency have implemented it, indicates challenges in both the policy communication process and the diffusion of innovation at the village level. This study aims to analyze how the policy communication process of the SNSE program unfolds and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its effectiveness as a tourism promotion medium in Tanah Datar Regency. The study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach and is grounded in Everett M. Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation theory. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, moderate participant observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and thematic conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that SNSE policy communication operates through two primary patterns: a formal, regulatory channel grounded in Regent Regulation of Tanah Datar No. 22 of 2022, and an informal, participatory channel facilitated through village deliberations and digital media. The innovation adoption process is uneven, with some villages acting as early adopters due to strong resource readiness and social support, while others fall into the late majority or approach the laggard category due to limited capacity and low levels of policy literacy. Nevertheless, the SNSE program has proven effective in increasing community participation, strengthening local identity, and fostering culture-based creative economic growth.

Abstract

T This study investigates the communication strategies utilized by the Regional General Elections Commission (KPUD) of Sijunjung Regency to enhance political participation among first-time voters. As a critical demographic in democratic processes, first-time voters often face challenges such as low political literacy and limited access to information. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The research is framed using Harold D. Lasswell’s communication model, focusing on the elements of communicator, message, medium, audience, and effect.Findings show that KPUD Sijunjung implemented various strategies, including face-to-face outreach, digital media campaigns, and collaboration with schools and youth organizations. However, geographical barriers, limited infrastructure, and low youth engagement pose significant challenges. Despite these limitations, the strategies contributed positively to raising awareness and increasing voter participation. The study recommends adopting more adaptive communication approaches and providing ongoing civic education to strengthen participatory democracy.
