Abstract

This study aims to determine the mechanism of corporate governance (independent commissioners, managerial ownership, institutional ownership, audit committee and audit quality) affect the potential financial distress (financial distress) of public companies. The research method used is multiple linear regression with the classic assumption test, and hypothesis testing that produces the following analysis: F value in the calculated statistics is 11.731 and a sig value of 0.014 because α> 0.014 means that significant Ho1 is rejected and Ha is accepted. The results of the study prove that the mechanism of corporate governance influences the financial distress potential of public companies. The results show that the independent commissioner (tcount of -3,139. This value is greater than ttable -2,500) has a statistically significant effect on the potential for financial difficulties. T test results indicate that managerial ownership (has a t-value of -4.236. This value is smaller than t table 2.500) statistically significant effect on the potential for financial difficulties. T test results show that institutional ownership (has a tcount of 2.747. This value is greater than t table 2.500) statistically has a significant effect on the potential for financial difficulties. T test results show that the audit committee (has a t-count of -2,615. This value is smaller than the table -2,500) has a statistically significant effect on the potential for financial difficulties. T test results indicate that audit quality (has a tcount of 7.426. This value is smaller than t-table 2,500) statistically has a significant effect on the potential for financial difficulties. The coefficient of determination shown from the adjusted R2 value of 0.054 means that 5.4% of the variation in potential financial difficulties can be explained by the 5 predictors used in this study, while the remaining 94.6% of the potential financial difficulties can be explained by other variables.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine and analyze the influence of transformational leadership and learning organization on the performance of private universities in Surabaya. The population in this study were all private university‘s leaders in Surabaya area. The sampling method uses census method, where all members of the population are made as research samples. Research Results: 1). Transformational leadership has no significant effect on organizational performance. The results of this study indicate that the application of transformational leadership does not guarantee that it can improve performance even though in transformational leadership the leader provides inspiration and motivation to lecturers and education personnel to achieve better results than planned, it does not affect organizational performance because organizational performance is determined by performance lecturers where the lecturers' work is independent rather than motivating themselves to carry out their own tasks without being influenced by their leaders and lack of communication between leaders and subordinates. 2). The results of this study found that Learning Organization has a significant effect on Organizational Performance. The findings in the field indicate that Learning Organization must be maintained and even increased by Higher Education organizations, because in these variables it is a factor that must be considered and implemented well in universities in achieving optimal performance given the achievement of important universities as a basis for obtaining accreditation and other university achievements.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of fuel quality on the performance and maintenance of a ship’s main engine. The background of the research arises from the increasing cases of engine component failures caused by low-quality fuel, particularly related to sulfur content, water contamination, and solid particles. The research applied a quantitative approach through laboratory testing of fuel samples and operational observations of the main engine on a 15,000 DWT cargo vessel. Data collection included viscosity analysis, sulfur content measurement, water contamination testing, and engine maintenance records. The results indicate that fuel with viscosity below the standard (decreasing from 180 cSt at 50°C to 120 cSt) increased the specific fuel oil consumption (SFOC) by 6.8%. High sulfur content (3.2% m/m) accelerated deposit formation on the piston crown and exhaust valve. Moreover, water contamination of 0.6% caused micro-corrosion on the fuel pump plunger and shortened the maintenance interval by 1.5 times compared to the standard. The discussion highlights a direct relationship between fuel quality and maintenance cost: within six months, ships operating with low-quality fuel experienced a 22% increase in maintenance cost compared to those using ISO 8217-compliant fuel. In conclusion, fuel quality is a critical factor in maintaining combustion efficiency, engine performance, and maintenance intervals. The study recommends using fuel that meets international standards and improving fuel quality monitoring systems before usage onboard ships.
