Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of horseback riding and archery at Pesantren Daarut Tauhiid, Bandung, during the period 2015–2022. The research employed historical methodology, consisting of four main stages: heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The findings indicate that these sports programs have developed significantly through the provision of facilities, involvement of professional trainers, and integration into the pesantren’s regular activities, such as tournaments and inter-pesantren competitions. This growth has been supported by the commitment of the pesantren leadership, community participation, and student enthusiasm, despite challenges related to budget constraints, facility management, and limited trainers. The study concludes that the program has been successfully implemented despite these obstacles and recommends improving facilities and adopting similar initiatives in other pesantren to preserve Sunnah sports within Islamic education. Abstract

This study examines the acculturation of agrarian traditions, particularly the Seren Taun ceremony, in the villages of Bojongsari and Sukamaju, Nyalindung District, Sukabumi, between 1986 and 2024. The Seren Taun ceremony, a harvest celebration, has historically been found in traditional villages such as Kanekes Baduy and Ciptagelar. However, interestingly, this tradition also persists in rural villages such as Bojongsari and Sukamaju, albeit with significant differences due to socio-cultural and religious acculturation. The main objective of this study is to analyze the contents of the traditional “Ririmbon Panen” guidebook found in both villages and to identify the forms of acculturation that influence agricultural practices and religious rituals. Using a qualitative approach, this research involves field methods (observation, interviews, documentation) and philology to edit and translate the texts, supplemented by content analysis to reveal the values contained therein. The results of the study show that the Seren Taun tradition in Bojongsari and Sukamaju, known as “Meteumeuyan,” has undergone profound acculturation with Islamic teachings. This transformation is evident in the replacement of amulets with prayers from the Qur'an and the use of the Islamic calendar in determining harvest times. Although pre-Islamic elements such as offerings and incense burning have been eliminated, other aspects such as calculating auspicious/inauspicious days and wind direction have been retained. In addition, the community still respects Monday as “Nyi Pohaci Day,” when rice processing activities are stopped. The Seren Taun ceremony in these two villages represents a concrete example of cultural acculturation in Indonesian agrarian communities, where indigenous traditions adapt to Islamic thinking, creating a unique blend that enriches cultural meaning without losing its essence. Abstract

Abstract

This research analyzes the transformation of hijab usage among Indonesian celebrities from 2001 to 2017. The primary issue addressed is the deconstruction of the hijab's image, which was initially perceived as rigid and a hindrance to professionalism during the New Order era, into a modern and emancipatory popular identity through the strategic role of public figures. The objective of this study is to map the phases of changes in hijab aesthetics and identify the driving factors that transformed this religious attribute into a symbol of international achievement. The methodology employed is the historical research method, encompassing four stages: heuristics through the collection of primary sources in the form of contemporary media clippings (Pikiran Rakyat, Galamedia) and oral sources (interview documentation), source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The analysis was conducted using Homi K. Bhabha’s theory of cultural hybridity to observe the emergence of a "Third Space" as a realm of negotiation between spiritual values and the aesthetics of the entertainment industry. The results indicate that the transformation was initiated by the pioneering actions of celebrities such as Inneke Koesherawati and Nella Regar in 2001, who navigated their identities amidst professional career risks. This development culminated in 2017 with Dian Pelangi’s achievements at New York Fashion Week, which historically marked the phase of the hijab's establishment as a globally recognized popular identity. This research concludes that celebrities act as agents of hybridity who create a 'Third Space,' a negotiation zone that successfully converges popular culture with religious values. The presence of this space destabilizes old narratives regarding the hijab, transforming it from marginal attire into a symbol of progress and professionalism for modern Muslim women in Indonesia’s public sphere.
