Abstract

Thrombocytopenia or platelet deficiency is a condition, in which platelet level in the blood circulation is below normal, which is less than 150,000 cells/µl. Thrombocytopenia is classified into some conditions, including decreased platelet production, increased need for platelets, and other thrombocytopenia. The need for increased platelets can be subdivided into primary immune thrombocytopenia, secondary immune thrombocytopenia, non-primary ITP, and thrombocytopenia that are not immune-mediated. Several cytokines play a role in the process of thrombocytopenia, one of which is Interleukin-17 (IL-17) that will be further discussed in this study. A previous study reported that IL-17 production increased in ITP and cITP patients. The objective of this study was to analyze the IL-17 levels and figure out the differences in IL-17 levels in the serums of patients with primary ITP and secondary ITP. The samples were taken from Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital and the specimens were examined in the Research Unit Laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Hasanuddin/Hospital of Universitas Hasanuddin. The comparative test resulted in p-value = 0.005, where p <α = 0.05; and therefore, there was a significant difference between IL 17 levels in ITP and non-primary ITP.

Abstract

Cholesterol is a component of fat forming yellow and in the form of wax which is produced by the liver. One of the foods that can increase cholesterol levels is meat sausage. These food ingredients, if consumed in excess amounts, will increase fat levels in the body, which in turn will increase total cholesterol levels in the blood (hypercholesterolemia). In this millennial era, many foods are produced fast using raw materials from processed meat, one of which is sausage. Sausage is one of the foods that are high in fat, so there will be an increase in fat levels in the body when a person consumes 50 grams of sausage (half a portion). Methods: This research uses analytic / inferential research, namely pre-experiment. There were 20 subjects used. The average (mean) blood cholesterol level before consuming sausage was 203.51 mg / dL and the mean (mean) blood cholesterol level after consuming sausage was 207.67 mg / dL. Furthermore, the results obtained after statistical testing using the paired T-Test, namely p value = 0.056, meaning that there was no significant difference in cholesterol levels before and 2 hours after consuming sausages. In this study it can be concluded that there is no significant difference in cholesterol levels before and 2 hours after consuming 75 grams of sausage (1 serving).

Abstract

Platelet examination is often done in the laboratory to support the diagnosis of a disease. Platelet examination using a blood sample that has been mixed with EDTA anticoagulant. Homogenization technique is done by inversion by inverting the tube 8-10 times. However, when the sample has been taken and the primary homogenization of the blood sample has not been immediately carried out the examination because the sampling officer will still be around to take the blood of other patients so that when the blood arrives in the laboratory it must be homogenized again. This secondary homogenization, until now there is no provision and further research. This different secondary homogenization is the basis for researchers to conduct research to determine the results of the examination of platelets treated in a way without secondary homogenization, secondary homogenization was carried out 4 times and 8 times. It can be concluded that for the examination of platelets, it was found that there were differences in the blood samples which were subjected to primary homogenization, secondary homogenization with the inversion technique 4 times, 8 times and those which were not homogenized. However, this study has limitations in the study, namely not conducting research on homogenization techniques by means of number 8.

Abstract

The preanalytic stage of the hematology laboratory examination is very important from patient preparation to specimen management. Homogeneization with inversion technique is one of the specimen management which also determines the valid result of a blood test. This study aims to determine the difference between primary, secondary and non-homogenized inversion inversion on leukocyte profile examination. The results of the statistical test showed that there was a significant difference, so every hematological examination had to be done an accurate homogenization according to the standard. Keywords: homogenization, inversion technique, leukocytes

Abstract

High blood glucose levels have the potential to disrupt lipid metabolism by resulting in increased levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and decreased high-density lipoprotein (HDL). If the level of triglycerides in the bloodstream continues to increase, this is called hypertriglyceridemia, which can lead to atherosclerosis. This study aims to determine how blood glucose and triglyceride levels in the bloodstream are related. Researchers looked at and analyzed the influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable in this research. This research used an observational analytical design. The samples are Diploma IV Medical Laboratory Technology students at the Health Science Faculty, UKMC. There is no significant correlation between the two variables studied, as shown by the analysis of the relationship between blood glucose concentration and triglycerides, with a p-value = 0.842. This research shows no significant correlation between the variables
