Abstract

Islamic education as the main pillar in shaping the identity and character of Muslims continues to develop along with changing times. Amid the dynamics of modern society, the challenges to Islamic education are increasingly complex, requiring innovation and adaptation to remain relevant and effective. This article aims to initiate holistic Islamic education by integrating science and spirituality as a strategic step in responding to the demands of the times and building a generation of quality Muslims. Through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this research investigates related literature to identify knowledge gaps and challenges in implementing holistic Islamic education. The research results reveal that Islamic education models that separate science and spirituality tend to be less effective in forming balanced character and personality in Muslim individuals. This analysis also juxtaposes findings with previous research and holistic educational theories, highlighting the need to develop consistent guidelines and conceptual models. The conclusion emphasizes that holistic Islamic education through the integration of science and spirituality is not only an innovative concept but also an urgent need to produce a generation of Muslims who excel academically and have deep moral awareness in accordance with Islamic principles. This article contributes to critical thinking and renewal in Islamic education in the modern era.

Abstract

This study explores the transformation and contestation of religious authority in Indonesia’s post-truth era through a qualitative case study of fatwas issued by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and the interpretive narratives of online preachers. The post-truth era—where emotion and personal belief often overshadow factual or scholarly legitimacy—poses unique challenges to institutional religious bodies. Utilizing a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews of three informants—an MUI fatwa commission member, an online preacher, and a Muslim academic—this research investigates how authority, authenticity, and credibility are constructed, perceived, and contested in the digital age. The findings reveal that MUI continues to maintain doctrinal legitimacy through its procedural and scholarly rigor, yet it struggles to compete with the affective appeal and immediacy of online religious influencers. Online preachers, empowered by digital platforms, reshape religious discourse through personalization, storytelling, and interactivity, often appealing to emotion rather than jurisprudential authority. Meanwhile, academics view this transformation as both an opportunity for religious democratization and a challenge to theological coherence. The study concludes that religious authority in Indonesia is shifting from institutional centralization to networked pluralism, where credibility is negotiated between traditional expertise and popular visibility. This shift calls for a renewed ethical and communicative framework that bridges scholarly authenticity with digital accessibility in order to preserve the integrity of Islamic knowledge in the post-truth era.

Abstract

Abstract

This research delves into the complex interplay between popular culture and the values and beliefs of Indonesian teenagers, offering insights into the multifaceted influence of media consumption. In an age marked by the ubiquity of globalized media, Indonesian adolescents are navigating a landscape where traditional cultural norms intersect with the allure of popular culture from around the world. Employing a mixed-methods approach, this study combines surveys, interviews, and content analysis to investigate how various forms of popular culture, including television, social media, music, and film, impact the attitudes, values, and beliefs of Indonesian teenagers. The research also explores themes, messages, and the negotiation of these influences within the context of cultural identity. Findings reveal that popular culture undeniably shapes the perceptions and beliefs of Indonesian youth, but it also reflects their agency in adapting and reaffirming their cultural identity amidst the dynamic forces of globalization.
