Abstract

The Mataram Canal is a historical inscription of the policy of Mataram's King which had saved thousands of Yogyakarta residents from the obligation to become Romusha during the Japanese colonialism. The inscription still stands today and has widely used for agricultural irrigation. Although it has a long interesting history and supported by beautiful natural scenery, this place has not been managed for tourism purposes. For this reason, this research is an initial study that will review the physical condition of Mataram Canal and the quality of the water. The Mataram Canal landscape is quite beautiful but requires a lot of repairs in several parts. Water quality also showed that the water does not meet favorable standards caused by sampling carried out in the rainy season. Thus the need for research in the dry season which could be used as a reference in determining the feasibility of Mataram Canal as a water tourism attraction.

Abstract

This research is a literature study with the theme of the tourism social impact in a village, namely Prawirotaman Village in Yogyakarta. There are two questions to be answered in this research, those are (1) how the origin of the name Prawirotaman as a "tourist village"?; and (2) what social impacts arise from tourists in Kampung Prawirotaman as a "tourist village"? The data in this research was collected from the results of previous researches. The conclusions of this research show that the emergence of Prawirotaman as a "tourist village" needs a quite long process and has social impacts, such as (1) profession changing that bring up new social statuses; (2) social relation changing in certain circles, especially related to inter-individual marriage and job; (3) availability of job vacancies that attract newcomers and cause unfair competition; and (4) new pattern of social interaction. As a note, this research is made by the previous research data through literature studies because it was conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic which made it impossible to conduct direct interviews and observations. Therefore, further research needs to be done related to the same theme in Prawirotaman using primary data, through observation and in-depth interviews, so that it can complete the shortcomings that have not been accommodated in this article and also making the data presented more up to date. Keywords: Social Impact, Tourism, Tourist Village

Abstract

Covid-19 pandemic has changed many things in life. One that is quite prominent is the behavior changing. The term "new normal" then became very popular. Many equations of this term appear in Bahasa Indonesia, such as “kenormalan baru”, “normal baru”, “tatanan kehidupan baru”, and many more which all refer to "a new normal condition". These new normal conditions include (1) wearing a mask when leaving the house or interacting with other people whose health status is unknown; (2) washing hands using soap with running water or using an alcohol-based antiseptic liquid / hand-sanitizer; (3) keep a one-meter minimum distance from other people and avoid a group of people, crowd, and crammed into a public space; and (4) increase endurance by implementing clean and healthy living behaviors. Keeping a one-meter minimum distance from other people and avoiding a group of people, crowd, and crammed into a public space is a discussion of carrying capacity of tourism discussed in this article. Thus, the purpose of this writing is to provide a perspective about an implementing concept of carrying capacity in tourism destinations after the Covid-19 pandemic. The method used in collecting data in this study is a literature review on documents that discuss the "new normal" and ecotourism associated with current conditions. Based on the results of those kinds of literature, the author concludes that "new normal" is a condition that can be used as a momentum for the rise of ecotourism, especially related to the implementation of the concept of carrying capacity in tourism destinations.

Abstract

This research is a literature research that aims to find out the principles of ecotourism in the perspective of utilitarianism ethics. Data were collected from various literatures on ecotourism and utilitarianism ethics. Data analysis was conducted by comparing the TIES ecotourism principles and Bentham's utilitarianism ethics principles. The conclusion of this research is that ecotourism in the perspective of utilitarianism ethics is seen as something good because the main principles of ecotourism and its derivative principles are in line with the main principles of utilitarianism ethics and the criteria of goodness in the perspective of utilitarianism ethics. The 2nd principle of ecotourism (build environmental and cultural awareness, and respect), the 4th principle of ecotourism (produce direct financial benefits for conservation), and the 8th principle of ecotourism (recognize the rights and spiritual beliefs of the Indigenous People in your community and work in partnership with them to create empowerment) align with Bentham’s first criterion of utilitarianism, namely benefits. The 1st principle of ecotourism (minimize physical, social, behavioral, and psychological impacts) and the 7th principle of ecotourism (design, construct and operate low-impact facilities) align with Bentham’s second criterion of utilitarianism, namely the greatest benefit. Ecotourism’s 3rd principle (provide positive experiences for both visitors and hosts), 5th principle (Generate financial benefits for both local people and private industry), and 6th principle (Deliver memorable interpretative experiences to visitors that help raise sensitivity to host countries’ political, environmental, and social climates) align with Bentham’s third criterion of utilitarianism, which is the greatest benefit to the greatest number of people.

Abstract

The mentoring activity for structuring the main tasks and institutional functions of the tourism village was carried out in the Baturetno Tourism Village, Baturetno Village, Kapanewon Banguntapan, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region. This tourist community already has an institutional structure, but because some of the members are so busy, it isn't functioning at its best. As a result, some of them do many duties. The goal of this activity is to help the manager of the Baturetno Tourist Village organize the organizational structure and confirm the primary duties and responsibilities of each field in the organizational structure so that there are no overlaps. The methodology for conducting out the activity starts with a review of the literature and progresses to observations and interviews to learn more about the main responsibilities and institutional tasks of the tourist village. To be capable of providing the appropriate support, this is done in order to get a general understanding of the situation. One of the outcomes of this effort took the form of recommendations that were included in the Institutional Book for the Baturetno Tourist Village, which was created in collaboration with the manager of the tourism village.

Abstract

This study was conducted in Lawang Ombo, located in Lasem District, Rembang Regency, Central Jawa. Lawang Ombo is a residential building built by Liem King Siok. Lawang Ombo has previously been used as a place for opium smuggling, which is a profitable illegal trade. The descriptive-comparative method was used in this study to compare the condition of Lawang Ombo as a tourism destination based on historical buildings before and during the pandemic and its management. The results of this study indicate that before the Covid-19 pandemic, Lawang Ombo was the location for various cultural performances. Visitors come from various cities in Central Java. During the pandemic, all cultural activities at Lawang Ombo were stopped. Very few visitors came and only came from Rembang. This makes no income from tourists for management costs. The next impact is that this building looks dirty and less maintenance. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that historic building-based tourism destinations that rely on income from tourists, especially through cultural performances, need to have income from other sources for management costs so that when performances are not possible to be held, the management of these historic buildings can continue. Keywords: Tourism Destination; Historical Building; Lawang Ombo; Pandemic.

Abstract

Bau Nyale is a tradition of the Sasak people who live along the coast of southern Lombok, including Torok Aik Belek Beach. However, the role of Pokdarwis Patuh Angen at Torok Aik Belek Beach in the Bau Nyale tradition is less exposed. This study aims to identify the role of Pokdarwis Patuh Angen at Torok Aik Belek Beach in the Bau Nyale 2023 tradition. The results of this study show that in the 2023 Bau Nyale tradition, from before the event began until the event ended, the role of Pokdarwis Patuh Angen institutionally was minimal. This happened because the coordination of the Montong Ajan Village Government to cooperate with other stakeholders was still limited. In addition, the tight implementation time made the committee formed by appointment and made Pokdarwis Patuh Angen not involved because so far the performance of Pokdarwis Patuh Angen has not been seen. Based on this conclusion, the author suggests organizing the management of Pokdarwis Patuh Angen to be more active in the development of tourism around Torok Aik Belek Beach. Thus, in the future, the performance of Pokdarwis Patuh Angen can be seen so it is expected to be institutionally involved in the Bau Nyale tradition in the next years.
