Abstract

Intensive Reading is one of reading subjects learned by English Department students. This course is a reading activity to find information and understand the contents of various reading texts. Good reading skills will enable students find and understand information from various texts proficiently. Besides knowing and applying reading strategies, students can improve their reading skills by doing reading practice continuously. Therefore, students need to have an easy access of various texts that are used as intensive reading materials. Website is one of the media that can be used to provide intensive reading materials. This is a descriptive qualitative research that is aimed to explore students’ perception on the implementation of a web-based materials in intensive reading class. The participants were the second semester of English Department students learned intensive reading. The data were obtained from observation, interview, and documentation. The findings showed that students have positive perception on the implementation of a web-based materials in intensive reading class. It was found that the implementation of websites can motivate students in learning to read, help students improve their reading comprehension, and form students’ reading habits.

Abstract

This class action research skill is very suitable to be developed in this new normal era because there are so many classroom problems that occur during online and hybrid learning. This community service program aims to help teachers improve the skills of preparing classroom action research proposals. The implementation method used in this PKM consists of interactive discussions, and practices. The results of this community service program include: improving the skills of teachers in compiling class action research proposals, scientific journal publications, mass media publications, draft class action research proposals, and IPR posters.

Abstract

Technology has become essential in education, requiring specialized instructional media tailored to each subject. This study develops a web-based learning system designed specifically for English education, integrating both passive and interactive learning approaches to enhance engagement and effectiveness. This study contributes to showing that passive-interactive English learning websites can help users in both the advanced and non-advanced categories. However, before the system is publicly accessible, system testing focusing on user experience is important to achieve the intended learning objectives. The current study employed the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) framework, consisting of 26 questions across the categories of Attractiveness, Pragmatic, and Hedonic. The UEQ framework has been well-validated and widely used in various studies and professional industries for assessing user experience, ensuring that the user experience scores are objective. The findings showed that the system scored lowest in the “Hedonic” category due to a low “Novelty” score of 1.344, which was 31% lower than the highest score “Attractiveness” at 1.962. Interface that visually appealing and offers fresh, dynamic content, users are more likely to stay engaged.  However, the overall average score across the three UEQ categories for the English learning system was 1.823, indicating a good user experience.

Abstract

Pengajaran nilai-nilai karakter kebangsaan di sekolah dasar semakin menantang. Guru tidak  bisa memantau secara langsung pembangunan karakter murid-muridnya karena sebagian besar aktivitas pembelajaran masih dilaksanakan secara daring atau dengan tatap muka terbatas. Komik digital merupakan salah satu media literasi modern yang menarik dan efisien untuk digunakan oleh guru dalam memperkenalkan nilai-nilai karakter kebangsaan. Artikel ini memaparkan pelaksanaan pelatihan pembuatan komik digital yang diikuti oleh 19 guru sekolah dasar. Kegiatan ini terbagi dalam empat tahapan, yakni observasi, sosialisasi, pendampingan dan evaluasi. Selama pelatihan, para peserta menunjukkan respon yang positif dan sangat antusias dari awal hingga akhir. Hasil pelatihan ini menunjukkan bahwa para guru dapat membuat komik digital yang dapat diimplementasikan untuk memperkenalkan, mengajarkan dan menanamkan nilai-nilai karakteristik kepada siswa sekolah dasar. Selain itu, para guru juga menemukan strategi-strategi pengajaran karakter kebangsaan di dalam maupun di luar pembelajaran, yang telah disesuaikan dengan karakteristik siswa sekolah dasar dan kondisi kegiatan pembelajaran selama pandemi berlangsung.

Abstract

Mengenalkan Bahasa Inggris sejak dini menjadi sebuah trend sehingga banyak satuan pendidikan setingkat Kelompok Bermain atau Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini yang menyediakan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk siswa-siswinya. KB At-taqwa dan KB Saling Asih merupakan satuan pendidikan untuk anak usia dini yang berada di Kabupaten Magelang, yang telah mengakomodasi para siswa untuk mempelajari Bahasa Inggris. Ketiadaan guru spesialis Bahasa Inggris untuk anak usia dini, pengajar yang ada kesulitan menemukan kendala dalam mengembangkan metode pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Kegiatan pengabdian ini berbentuk penyuluhan yang bertujuan untuk mengenalkan metode hands-on Montessori activity kepada para pengajar di kelompok bermain. Ada 6 pertemuan dalam kegiatan ini, dimana dibagi beberapa tahap, yakni observasi, persiapan dan koordinasi, penyuluhan dan diskusi, demonstrasi, praktek mengajar, dan evaluasi. Melalui tahapan-tahapan tersebut, para pengajar dapat memahami dan mempraktekkan berbagai macam kegiatan hands-on Montessori dalam pengajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk anak usia dini. Para guru semakin terampil dalam mengembangkan aktivitas kegiatan untuk pengajaran Bahasa Inggris di dalam kelas. Kegiatan penyuluhan ini sangat bermanfaat untuk peningkatan ketrampilan mengajar Bahasa Inggris di tingkat pendidikan anak usia dini.
