Abstract

Wuluh starfruit is as a tropical plant that has sour taste but it has high nutritional value. One of wuluh starfruiut antioxidant contents is β-carotene. This research aimed to know β-carotene and test of antioxidant activity on Wuluh starfruit. Method of reseach was observational conducted at Chemistry Laboratory of Ujung Pandang Polytechnic with poject of quantitative test using spectrophotometry UV-Vis. The length of wave (nm) was 480 with 0,066 ABS (Absorban) value to analyze β-carotene level and antioxidant test (IC50) with wave length (nm) of 517. Concentration varian used were 0,1 %, 0,2 %, 04 % dan 0,8 % using spectrophotometry UV-Vis with DPPH solution reagent (1,1-dhipenyl-2-picryhirdazyl). This research indicated that quantitative test using spectrophotometry UV-Vis was obtained 24,99555 ppm β-carotene level and the result of antioxidant test (IC50) to reduce 50 % free radicals in DPPH solution required a dry powder sample contentration of 0,6 %.

Abstract

Javanese bark (Lannea coromandelica) contains secondary metabolites of saponins, tannins, phenolics, and flavonoids. Flavonoids include aromatic compounds that are antioxidants. Antioxidants can inhibit the oxidation process that arises due to free radical reactions to form unreactive compounds. The active flavonoid compounds in counteracting free radicals are determined by the presence of the –OH (hydroxy) functional group. Flavonoid compounds that have antioxidant properties include catechins, flavones, flavanones, flavonols, chalcones, and isoflavones. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of ethanol extract and n-hexane bark of Javan bark (Lannea coromandelica) using the DPPH method. The method used is DPPH using UV-VIS spectrophotometry. Ethanol extract has an IC50 of 3.996 mg/L and has a strong antioxidant activity while the antioxidant activity of N-Hexan is obtained IC50 2193.043 mg/L. has weak antioxidants weak antioxidants.

Abstract

Lawi-lawi (Caulerpa sp) has economic value for some coastal communities who cultivate it. Apart from having the opportunity to be exported abroad as a complement to processed seafood, it turns out that lawi-lawi can also be used as an antidote to cancer or malignant diseases. This research is about the level of toxicity of the seaweed extract fraction (Caulerpa sp) on Artemia salina Leach larvae, method while for screening anticancer activity used the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. In methanol extract Caulerpa sp based on the results of toxicity test measurements using the BSLT method, it is included in the toxic category. Primary extract In Caulerpa sp based on the results of toxicity test measurements using the BSLT method, it is included in the very toxic category.

Abstract

Malassezia fufur is normal flora on the skin and will turn into a pathogen under certain conditions that support fungal growth, such as poor personal hygiene, in addition to environmental factor such as high temperature aand humidity, sweat gland production, and malnutrition. The Malasszia furfur causes pityriasis Versicolor. The aim of this research was to identify the Malassezia furfur in inmates of class II A Women’s Prison Sungguminasa. Thisresearch was conducted at the Microbiology Laboratori, Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University. The samples were taken at Class II A Women’s Prison Sungguminasa. Samples were taken from 10 respondents in the from of skin swabs suffering from Pityriasis Versicolor, then inoculated on SDA media which had been added with chloramphenicol and the incubated at 37oC for 7 days. Based on macroscopic obsevations, colonies had the characteristics of the Malassezia furfur. Determining microscopic morphology, colony preparation were made with Lactophenol catton blue staining and then observed under a microscope with 40 time magnification . The research result showed that no prison were infected with the Malassezia furfur.

Abstract

Obat tradisional adalah bahan atau ramuan bahan yang berupa bahan tumbuhan, bahan hewan, bahan mineral, sediaan sarian atau campuran dari bahan tersebut yang secara turun temurun telah digunakan untuk pengobatan, dan dapat diterapkan sesuai dengan norma yang berlaku di masyarakat. Salah satu dari obat tradisional tersebut adalah buah pare. Buah pare merupakan anggota keluarga Cucurbitaceae yaitu tanaman tropis yang saat ini didistribusikan di seluruh dunia dan memiliki sifat terapeutik seperti antibakteri, anti diabetes, antioksidan, antiviral dan aktivitas antineoplastik. Kandungan kimia ekstrak buah pare adalah flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, streoid/terpenoid, dan glikosida. Salah satu zat kimia yang berfungsi sebagai antibakteri adalah flavonoid. Senyawa flavonoid berkerja sebagai antibakteri dengan cara membentuk senyawa kompleks terhadap protein extraseluler yang mengganggu intergritas membran sel bakteri Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui daya antibakteri ekstrak metanol buah pare terhadap MRSA dan untuk mengetahui Kadar Hambat Minimum (KHM) dan Kadar Bunuh Minimum (KBM) ekstrak metanol buah pare terhadap MRSA. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah metode dilusi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak metanol buah pare (Momordica charantia L.) memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap bakteri Methicillin Resistant Stapylococcus aureus (MRSA) dengan KHM pada konsentrasi 2% dan KBM pada konsentrasi 4%.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculosis can be treated by taking Anti-Tuberculosis Drugs (OAT). Tuberculosis treatment is divided into two phases, namely the initial phase and the advanced phase. Side effects of OAT use can cause hematological abnormalities in the blood such as anemia. The purpose of this study was to determine the comparison of erythrocytes in tuberculosis patients undergoing initial and advanced phase treatment as monitoring of anemia risk. This type of research was a comparative study. The research subjects were 30 subjects undergoing initial phase treatment and 30 subjects in advanced phase treatment obtained using the total sampling method. The results of this study obtained a normal erythrocyte index in the early phase of 21 (70%) subjects, normocytic hypochromic 6 (20%) subjects, and microcytic hypochromic 3 (10%) subjects. In comparison, the normal erythrocyte index in the advanced phase was 26 (87%) subjects and microcytic hypochromic 4 (13%) subjects. From the results of the statistical test study using the Mann-Whitney test, the Asymp. Sig. (2 tailed) value was obtained 0.000 (<0.05), which indicates that there is a comparison between the results of the erythrocyte index examination in TB patients undergoing early and advanced phase treatment so that in this study, the hypothesis H is accepted and Ho is rejected. This study concludes that more people experience anemia in the early phase of treatment than in the advanced phase of treatment.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh waktu sonikasi terhadap kadar asam lemak bebas (Free Fatty Acid/FFA) dan densitas minyak bekatul. Sampel bekatul diekstraksi menggunakan metode maserasi dengan etanol food grade, kemudian minyak hasil ekstraksi disonikasi pada frekuensi 42 kHz dengan variasi waktu 40, 50, dan 60 menit. Percobaan dilakukan sebanyak dua kali pengulangan pada pengujian kadar FFA dan nilai densitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar FFA minyak bekatul meningkat signifikan pada sonikasi 40 menit (15,82%), namun menurun pada 50 menit (6,21%) dan 60 menit (1,13%). Penurunan nilai FFA tersebut disebabkan oleh efek panas dari kavitasi ultrasonik yang dapat menyebabkan inaktivasi enzim lipase penyebab hidrolisis trigliserida. Nilai densitas minyak bekatul juga mengalami kenaikan bertahap dari 0,50 g/mL pada 40 dan 50 menit hingga 0,56 g/mL pada 60 menit, meskipun masih berada di bawah standar mutu minyak pangan (SNI 0,89 g/mL). Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa waktu sonikasi berpengaruh terhadap nilai FFA dan densitas minyak bekatul.
