Abstract

Infectious diseases, particularly those caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, pose a serious health issue in Indonesia. Strains of this bacterium are resistant to several antibiotics, making treatment challenging. Therefore, the use of herbal medicines such as garlic, which contain antibacterial compounds, has become a popular alternative treatment. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of single bulb garlic (Allium sativum Linn) and multiple bulbs garlic (Allium sativum) extracts as antibacterials against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. The method used was disc diffusion (Kirby-Bauer) on Mueller-Hinton agar media with the administration of single and multiple bulb garlic extracts at concentrations of 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, and 100%. The results of the study show that the single bulb garlic extract significantly outperforms the multiple bulbs garlic extract in terms of effectiveness. The diameter of the inhibition zone at a concentration of 100% single bulb garlic extract is 24.5, while that of the multiple bulb garlic extract is 28.5. Both types of garlic are effective as antibacterials, with the optimal concentration being 100%. However, the antibacterial activity in single bulb garlic is superior to that in multiple bulbs garlic. Therefore, single bulb garlic could serve as an effective alternative treatment.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the most common cancer found in women of all types of cancer in the world. The relationship between body mass index and the death rate from breast cancer in women has drawn attention recently. This study sought to ascertain the relevance of the variation in death rates between women with breast cancer who had a normal body mass index (BMI) and those who had a BMI of ≥25. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) references were used to guide the systematic review process in this investigation. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for cohort design studies and the Robins-I test for single-arm experimental design studies were used to assess the quality of the articles. The data source consisted of 142 Pubmed publications published between 2016 and 2023. The analysis's findings revealed differences between the five publications that discussed the connection between obesity and breast cancer.  The development of breast cancer is linked to an increase in leptin and estrogen, which is consistent with an increase in fat. It is concluded that individuals with a body mass index (BMI) of ≥ 25 had a poorer chance of surviving breast cancer than patients with a normal BMI.

Abstract

perilaku seks bebas melalui tempat prostitusi, salah satunya kawasan prostitusi Dolly, Surabaya.

Abstract

Highlight: Reduced cerebellar Purkinje cell numbers and altered dendritic trees due to cell deaths were reported in hyperglycemia.  In hyperglycemia, altered GABAergic neurotransmissions are due to lower GABA synthesis and its receptors expression levels in cerebellum. Impaired motor and cognitive functions were observed related to cerebellar Purkinje cell damage in a diabetic rat model.   ABSTRACT Introduction: Hyperglycemia-induced neurotoxicity has been linked to the cerebellum, specifically the impairment of Purkinje cells; its relation to GABA neurotransmission has yet to be cleared. Objective: We conducted an updated review on the mechanism of hyperglycemia-induced impairment of cerebellar Purkinje cells in a rodent diabetic model. Methods: A modified ScR-PRISMA flow diagram was applied as the screening tool. All English-language research articles published between 2014 and 2024 that containing the purposed topics and were indexed in PubMed and Medline were included. These articles were then critically appraised using the JBI checklist to minimize  potential bias. The final inclusion of 8 articles was included for analysis and discussion, together with additional retrieved articles. Results: Hyperglycemic-induced subjects demonstrated a marked reduction in Purkinje and granular cell populations, accompanied by several morphological impairments. Alterations were observed in GABAergic inhibitory neurotransmission, including receptors and GABA synthesis, compared to controls. These findings are consistent with observed deficits in motor coordination and cerebellar function. Conclusion: Hyperglycemia produces adverse effects on the function and survival of Purkinje cells in the cerebellum. Impaired GABAergic neurotransmission might result as parts of oxidative stress and inflammation induced by hyperglycemia in the cerebellar cells. Taken altogether, these results in motor impairment and cognitive dysfunction.
