Abstract

Abstract

This article proposes an interdisciplinary framework that bridges Marxist political ecology and Islamic ethics to address ecological injustice in Muslim-majority contexts. Existing scholarship reveals a critical research gap: while political ecology particularly John Bellamy Foster’s theory of the metabolic rift diagnoses capitalism as the systemic driver of ecological degradation, it often overlooks the spiritual and ethical dimensions of human nature relations. Conversely, Islamic environmental thought emphasizes the theological values of stewardship (khalīfah), justice (‘adl), and balance (mīzān), yet tends to lack a rigorous structural critique of capitalist modes of production and consumption. To overcome this epistemic divide, the study synthesizes these two perspectives into a hybrid model of ecological justice that is both structurally critical and spiritually grounded. Theoretically, it advances political ecology by reintroducing religion not merely as moral discourse but as an analytical category capable of shaping socio-ecological critique. Practically, it outlines four domains of implementation: (1) ecological justice policies through environmental zakat and waqf; (2) integration of eco-ethical principles into Islamic education; (3) mosque-centered community empowerment; and (4) the adoption of green technologies aligned with sustainability (istidāmah). This integrated framework enriches global sustainability debates by offering a non-secular paradigm rooted in Islamic ethical thought, while positioning Indonesia as a potential model for environmentally responsible Muslim societies that combine structural reform with moral transformation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the underlying causes of low interest in Arabic language learning and to formulate pedagogical solutions through the integration of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL), Cooperative Learning, and the PAKEM (Active, Creative, Effective, and Joyful Learning) framework. Adopting a descriptive qualitative approach with a library research method, this study critically analyzes data to identify epistemological, affective, and pedagogical barriers in Arabic instruction, while exploring the potential interventions of the three aforementioned strategies. The findings indicate that the decline in student interest is primarily driven by material abstraction, language anxiety, and passive instructional methods. The integration of these three strategies offers a complementary and holistic solution: CTL addresses cognitive barriers by contextualizing material into meaningful learning experiences; Cooperative Learning mitigates affective obstacles by fostering psychological safety through peer support; and PAKEM overcomes motoric-engagement barriers by stimulating joyful, active participation. The synergy of these strategies effectively shifts the instructional paradigm from passive-instructional to active-participatory, fundamentally reconstructing and enhancing student engagement and interest in Arabic language acquisition.

Abstract

Cultural evolution has occurred in various aspects of community life, including religious practices. In Indonesia, religious study groups (majlīs taʻlīm) and prayer groups (majlīs ṣalāwāt) are two forms of religious activities that play an important role in the spiritual development of Muslims. However, recently, prayer groups (majlīs ṣalāwāt) have become more popular than religious study groups (majlīs taʻlīm). This study aims to examine the cultural evolution in the religious practices of the Muslim community in Indonesia, focusing particularly on the transition from religious study groups to prayer groups. The study was conducted using a literature review method, collecting data from various relevant sources. The results show that this shift is influenced by several factors, including the appeal and interactivity of prayer group activities, their emotional impact, ease of understanding, and the strengthening of the communities involved. Furthermore, technological advancements and new media have accelerated the spread and popularity of prayer groups, particularly among the younger generation. The impact of this evolution includes changes in the function and tone of religious studies, the integration of music into spiritual activities, and the emergence of new forms of cultural expression that blend tradition and modernity. This study provides insight into how social and cultural changes shape religious practices and the spiritual identity of Muslims in Indonesia

Abstract

Abstract Teacher human resources remains a primary challenge within the Indonesian educational landscape, particularly in private madrasahs where educators are frequently assigned to subjects that do not align with their academic backgrounds. This study aims to identify the structural and situational barriers to HR fulfillment and formulate strategic solutions to address this systemic mismatch. Designed as a qualitative multi-site case study, this research involves a comparative analysis across three educational levels (MI, MTs, and MA) in Demak Regency. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with principals and heads of curriculum, non-participant observations, and documentation analysis, followed by an interactive model analysis. The results indicate that HR fulfillment is primarily obstructed by a lack of financial equity in national budget distribution, high teacher turnover due to P3K recruitment, and a structural shortage of linear-background educators willing to work in the private sector. To address these issues, the study proposes the policy integration of PPPK into private institutions, the expansion of PPG opportunities, and the strengthening of collaborative networks with community organizations. The novelty of this research lies in its comprehensive focus specifically on human resource challenges within private madrasahs from various angles and factors, setting it apart from broader studies on educational problems.
