Abstract

Prevalensi diabetes mellitus sudah semakin tinggi, baik di negara-negara maju, maupun di negara-negara berkembang khususnya Indonesia. Diabetes mellitus menempati peringkat lima dari sepuluh penyebab utama kematian di Makassar tahun 2007. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui upaya penanganan dan perilaku pasien penderita diabetes mellitus tipe 2 di Puskesmas Bara-Baraya Kota Makassar tahun 2013. Jenis penelitian adalah survei observasional deskriptif, dilakukan pada bulan Maret-April 2013 dengan jumlah sampel 32 orang. Sampel dalam penelitian ini ada dua, yaitu petugas kesehatan dan pasien diabetes mellitus tipe 2. Teknik pengambilan sampel yaitu purposive sampling. Proses penelitian upaya penanganan DM tipe 2 petugas kesehatan dilakukan melalui observasi langsung dan penelitian terhadap perilaku pasien dilakukan melalui wawancara langsung terhadap pasien dan pemeriksaan kadar glukosa darah. Analisis dilakukan terhadap tiap variabel dari hasil penelitian dengan menggunakan tabel distribusi frekuensi sehingga menghasilkan distribusi dan persentase dari setiap variabel. Hasil penelitian didapatkan upaya penangan DM di Puskesmas Bara-Baraya masih kurang, pengetahuan pasien DM tipe 2 masih kurang, dan perilaku (kepatuhan diet, aktivitas fisik, kepatuhan minum obat) pasien DM tipe 2 masih banyak yang tidak patuh, dan lebih tingginya prevalensi kadar glukosa darah tidak terkontrol dibandingkan yang terkontrol. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan untuk lebih memaksimalkan peran TPG dalam pelayanan di pojok gizi. Sebaiknya pelayanan di pojok gizi tidak hanya diperuntukkan untuk bayi, balita ataupun ibu hamil saja, tetapi juga difungsikan untuk melayani pasien penderita penyakit lain, khususnya pasien penderita DM.

Abstract

Prevalence of DM is getting higher even in advanced country and developed country, especially in Indonesia. DM occupies the fifth rank from ten main causes of death in Makassar . This research has purpose to indentify the effort of caring and behaviour of patients of DM type 2 at Maccini Sawah Health Center Makassar. The research method is descriptive observasional survey, with a sample of 29 respondents. There are 2 kinds of samples in this research, health officers and patients of DM type 2. The technique of choosing the samples by using purposive sampling technique. Research process of effort caring of DM type 2 to health officers which is done through direct observation and research to patients behaviour through direct interview to the patients and examining of GDS. The result of the research proved that caring effort of DM at Maccini Sawah Health Center  is still less satisfying. The patients of DM type 2 are still less knowledge and most of them are still disobidient to the instruction given.  The prevalence of the patients who have uncontrolled GDS are higher than controlled patients. This research recommended to maximize the role of health of TPG in service in nutritional corner. In addition it’s better that the service in nutritional corner in not only for the babies or pregnant women, but also functional to serve other patients, especially for DM patients,  and is expected to further research on interventions in patients with DM.  Abstrak: Prevalensi diabetes mellitus sudah semakin tinggi, baik di negara-negara maju, maupun di negara-negara berkembang khususnya Indonesia. Hasil penelitian didapatkan upaya penangan DM di Puskesmas Maccini Sawah masih kurang, pengetahuan pasien masih kurang, dan perilaku (kepatuhan diet, aktivitas fisik, kepatuhan minum obat) pasien DM tipe 2 masih banyak yang tidak patuh, dan lebih tingginya prevalensi kadar glukosa darah tidak terkontrol dibandingkan yang terkontrol. Disarankan  untuk lebih memaksimalkan peran TPG dalam pelayanan di pojok gizi (POZI) dan  sebaiknya pelayanan di pojok gizi tidak hanya diperuntukkan untuk bayi, balita ataupun ibu hamil saja, tetapi juga difungsikan untuk melayani pasien penderita penyakit lain, khususnya pasien penderita DM serta diharapkan adanya penelitian lebih lanjut mengenai intervensi pada pasien penderita DM.

Abstract

AbstractDouble burdens of malnutrition among women have occurred across most developing countries including Indonesia. This study compared the associated factors among overweight and underweight of women in reproductive age (WRA) in rural Ciampea Sub-district, Bogor, West Java. This cross-sectional study surveyed the nutritional status of 575 mothers (16-49 years old) who have under two-years-old children. Nutritional status was assessed by body-mass-index (BMI) and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), food security status by US-Food Security Survey Module (US-FSSM), dietary intake by a single 24-H dietary recall. The prevalence of underweight, overweight, and obese among this group were 10%, 15.8%, and 34.2%. Food security status was the single factor associated with overweight (p=0.026). However, after adjustment with other factors, food insecurity with hunger was found to be the highest risk of being underweight (AdjOR=3.95; 95%CI: 1.46-10.64). Contrarily, it contributed to lower chances of being overweight among WRA (AdjOR=0.40, 95%CI: 0.21-0.77). In conclusion, food security status in this population associated with both under- and over-nutrition, in addition to other factors such as age and education level of WRA. Ensuring the availability and affordability of nutritious food together with proper nutrition education to rural communities might be worthwhile to improve this condition.AbstrakBeban ganda malnutrisi pada wanita terjadi di sebagian besar negara berkembang, termasuk Indonesia. Penelitian ini membandingkan faktor-faktor yang berhubungan pada wanita usia subur (WUS) dengan status gizi kurang dan lebih di pedesaan Ciampea, Bogor, Jawa Barat. Studi potong lintang ini mensurvei status gizi pada 575 Ibu (usia 16-49 tahun) yang memiliki baduta. Penilaian status gizi menggunakan indeks massa tubuh (IMT) dan lingkar lengan atas (LILA), status ketahanan pangan oleh US-Food Security Survey Module (US-FSSM), asupan makanan dengan food recall 24-jam. Prevalensi gizi kurang, lebih, dan obesitas pada kelompok ini adalah 10%, 15,8%, dan 34,2%. Status ketahanan pangan merupakan faktor tunggal yang terkait dengan kelebihan berat badan (p = 0,026). Namun, setelah disesuaikan dengan faktor lain, kerawanan pangan dengan kelaparan ditemukan sebagai risiko tertinggi terjadinya gizi kurang (AdjOR = 3.95; CI 95%: 1.46-10.64). Sebaliknya, kondisi tersebut berisiko lebih rendah terhadap kejadian gizi lebih pada WUS (AdjOR = 0,40, 95% CI: 0,21-0,77). Kesimpulannya, status ketahanan pangan pada populasi ini berhubungan dengan kejadian ganda malnutrisi, selain faktor lain seperti usia dan tingkat pendidikan. Memastikan ketersediaan dan keterjangkauan pangan bergizi bersama dengan edukasi gizi yang tepat untuk masyarakat pedesaan mungkin bermanfaat untuk memperbaiki kondisi ini.

Abstract

The double burden of malnutrition, especially on women, continues to increase, including in Makassar City, Indonesia. The prevalence of malnutrition is quite high based on BMI category in the adult female population aged >18 years in Makassar City, namely thin (8.64%), fat (14.33%), and obese (29.75%). This study aims to compare factors related to undernutrition and overnutrition status in women of childbearing age (WUS) in Makassar District. This research is a cross-sectional study of suburban women aged 16–44 years at the Bara-baraya Community Health Center, Makassar District using a quota sampling technique for two months. Anthropometric measurements were carried out to determine nutritional status, calorie and protein intake were measured using a 24-hour recall questionnaire, and a structured questionnaire to determine the characteristics of respondents. The statistical test used is the Chi Square test. The prevalence of undernutrition, normal and overnutrition in the WUS group was 8.3%, 46.9% and 44.8%, respectively. There is a significant relationship between energy intake (p=0.032), dietary diversity (p=0.025), nutritional knowledge (p=0.029), and education (p=0.009) with nutritional status in women of childbearing age. No significant relationship was found between protein intake, occupation, economic status and age with nutritional status among women of reproductive age (p>0.05).

Abstract

Weight control is a process of avoiding fat deposits in the body. This depends on the relationship between the amount of food consumed and the amount of energy used. The less you eat and the energy you expend, the more fat deposits will decrease. Weight control is very important for health because obesity can cause heart problems. Physical exercise can help you lose weight faster and make your body healthier and fitter. People on a weight loss diet should do more exercise, but an obese person, even if they are able-bodied, should not suddenly start with strenuous exercise. Exercises suitable for a weight loss program are carried out continuously, over a long period, or often referred to as aerobic exercise. This research is a quasi-experimental study, where variable measurements are carried out before and after being given treatment. This research was conducted for 10 weeks. This research was conducted at Dadi Regional Special Hospital, Makassar, South Sulawesi, with a total of 40 research subjects. The sports training provided is High Intensity Interval Training (Aerobics). Sports training is done 3 times a week. This study found a substantial decrease in weight after a 2-month fitness program, as indicated by a p-value of 0.001 (> 0.05).

Abstract

The utilization of natural additives in food processing has gained significant attention due to growing consumer demand for safe, nutritious, and clean-label products. This systematic review analyzed 30 studies from the Scopus database to evaluate the types, functions, and impacts of natural additives on food safety and nutritional value. Findings reveal that plant-based, animal-derived, and microbial-derived additives demonstrate strong antimicrobial, antioxidant, and nutrient-enhancing properties. Natural additives such as polyphenols, essential oils, and bioactive peptides effectively improve product safety by inhibiting microbial growth, reducing oxidation, and mitigating mycotoxins. They also contribute to nutritional fortification and functional health benefits. Despite challenges such as cost, regulatory compliance, and sensory acceptance, the adoption of natural additives presents significant opportunities for sustainable and health-focused food innovation. This review underscores the importance of further research to optimize extraction methods, develop synergistic formulations, and enhance consumer education.

Abstract

Frozen ready-made meals have become a significant part of modern diets, particularly among Millennials and Generation Z. This shift, driven by urbanization and convenience, aligns with global food consumption trends and poses implications for health, sustainability, and marketing strategies. This study aims to explore the consumption patterns, attitudes, and marketing touchpoints of frozen ready-made meal consumers in Indonesia, focusing on Millennials and Generation Z. It also seeks to identify effective strategies for businesses to engage with this demographic. A structured survey was conducted with 249 respondents representing consumers of frozen ready-made meals in Indonesia. The data covered demographics, media consumption, advertising exposure, and attitudes toward health and sustainability. Comparative analysis was performed to identify trends and patterns in their behavior. The results show a strong reliance on digital platforms, with 94% engaging with digital video content and 80% exposed to video advertising. Smartphones dominate as the primary device for media consumption (98%), and social media usage is high. Health-conscious behaviors are prevalent, with 76% actively trying to eat healthily, though only 25% aim to reduce meat consumption, reflecting limited engagement in sustainable dietary habits. Economic stability, education, and environmental issues are among the top societal concerns. The study highlights the need for businesses to leverage digital platforms, particularly video advertising and social media, to effectively reach Millennials and Generation Z. Emphasizing health-conscious and sustainable options can resonate with their values. A balanced approach, integrating digital innovation with traditional advertising methods, is essential for fostering stronger connections and ensuring long-term consumer loyalty in this demographic.

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study investigated the effects of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on weight loss and cognitive function in patients with schizophrenia treated with risperidone. Conducted at Dadi Regional Special Hospital, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, the study included 40 participants who met the inclusion criteria, including males aged 20–40 years, with disease onset of fewer than five years, and receiving risperidone therapy (4–6 mg/day). The exclusion criteria included severe organic comorbidities and recent substance use. The participants were divided into treatment and control groups, with the former undergoing 30 HIIT sessions over 10 weeks. Each session lasted 25 min, incorporating warm-up, core HIIT, and cool-down phases, with heart rates monitored to ensure anaerobic intensity (80–90% of maximum heart rate). The results showed a significant weight reduction in the treatment group (mean decrease: 0.475 kg, p < 0.001), indicating the potential of HIIT to mitigate risperidone-induced weight gain. Cognitive performance, assessed via the Schizophrenia Cognitive Rating Scale (SCoRS v BI), improved in both groups, with no significant differences between them (p > 0.05). However, greater improvement was observed in the treatment group. This study supports the integration of HIIT as adjunct therapy for schizophrenia, offering the dual benefits of cognitive enhancement and weight management. Further research incorporating genetic factors and advanced monitoring tools is needed to refine these findings.

Abstract

Pemberian ASI eksklusif merupakan program yang direkomendasikan oleh WHO dan AAP yang merupakan komponen penting dalam pemenuhan gizi bayi yang medukung pertumbuhan dan perkembangan optimal. Namun, di beberapa daerah angka pemberian ASI eksklusif masih rendah, salah satunya di Provinsi Sulawesi Barat. Keputusan seorang ibu untuk memberikan ASI eksklusif kepada bayinya dapat dipengaruhi oleh pengetahuannya tentang ASI eksklusif. Studi ini bertujuan untuk melihat adanya korelasi pengetahuan ibu dengan kebiasaan pemberian ASI eksklusif di Polewali Mandar. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan desain cross-sectional, dengan jumlah sampel 33 responden (ibu) yang memiliki bayi berusia 6 sampai 12 bulan. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan dianalisis menggunakan chi-square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 45,5% ibu memberikan ASI eksklusif, sedangkan 54,5% ASI non-eksklusif. Sebanyak 36,4% ibu memiliki pengetahuan yang baik mengenai ASI eksklusif. Dari hasil uji chi-square menunjukkan adanya korelasi pengetahuan orang tua dengan pemberian ASI eksklusif (p-value: 0.005). Pemahaman yang menyeluruh tentang manfaat dan prosedur pemberian ASI eksklusif memiliki dampak yang cukup besar keputusan pemberian ASI eksklusif. Oleh karena itu, upaya peningkatan pengetahuan ibu sangat penting untuk mendukung keberhasilan program ASI eksklusif dan penurunan angka sunting.
