Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the tensile stress of an object that was cut using a laser cutting machine. The purpose of this study is to determine the strength changes in the workpiece caused by cutting using laser cutting based on power and cutting speed. The workpiece used in this study is a polymer type Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) or better known as acrylic. This study uses variations in the amount of power and cutting speed, namely 50% power with a cutting speed of 5 mms, 50% power with a cutting speed of 10mms, 70% power with a cutting speed of 5 mms and 70% power with a cutting speed of 10 mms. From the results of tensile stress testing, the amount of power and speed of acrylic cutting affects the tensile stress of the workpiece. The greater the acrylic cutting power will reduce the tensile stress value of the workpiece by 11.4%. The faster the acrylic cutting will reduce the tensile stress value by 10.7%.

Abstract

The development of electric vehicles in Indonesia requires the readiness of mechanics with specialized competencies in maintenance and repair. However, most motorcycle workshop mechanics in the Soloraya region still have limited knowledge and skills. This community service program aims to enhance the competence of mechanics through electric vehicle training and certification. The program was conducted at the Automotive Workshop of Politeknik Indonusa Surakarta in collaboration with Wuling Motor Indonesia, involving 20 participants from various motorcycle workshops. The training materials covered electric motor systems, batteries, battery management systems (BMS), and high-voltage occupational safety. The implementation methods included theoretical delivery, interactive discussions, and hands-on practice in electric vehicle maintenance and repair. The results indicated improved participants’ understanding, as shown by pre-test and post-test evaluations, and further reinforced by the awarding of competency certificates. This activity not only provided direct benefits for workshop mechanics but also supported the acceleration of battery-based electric vehicle implementation in line with government programs. Through this training, mechanics are expected to adapt to the development of automotive technology, enhance the competitiveness of local workshops, and contribute to sustainable transportation development in Indonesia.

Abstract

The performance of photovoltaic (PV) modules is significantly affected by the increase in operating temperature, which leads to reduced power output and overall efficiency. Therefore, passive cooling strategies are required to maintain stable energy conversion in solar systems. One widely investigated approach is the use of phase change materials (PCM) due to their ability to absorb and release latent heat, although their low thermal conductivity remains a major limitation. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of incorporating titanium dioxide nanoparticles into PCM, known as nano-enhanced PCM (NePCM), in improving the cooling performance of PV modules. The experimental method was conducted on a 50 Wp polycrystalline PV module under three conditions: without cooling, with pure PCM, and with titanium dioxide-based NePCM. The preparation of NePCM was carried out using a two-step method involving mechanical stirring and ultrasonic sonication to achieve a homogeneous nanoparticle dispersion. The results demonstrated that the addition of titanium dioxide improved the thermal conductivity of PCM, leading to lower operating temperatures, more stable voltage and power output, and higher energy conversion efficiency compared to both pure PCM and the uncontrolled condition. These findings highlight the potential of titanium dioxide-based NePCM as an effective, economical, and sustainable material for passive cooling applications in photovoltaic systems.
