Abstract

Cybery Beach is a beach that has enormous potential to be developed, besides being very close to the center of Jayapura, this beach is the only beach located right next to the Youtefa Bridge and the Youtefa Bay Estuary so it has enormous potential to be developed because it is visited by many visitors in Jayapura city, Cybery Beach is also located on the ringroad and eastward with Holtekamp Beach, environmental safety is a shared responsibility of both the government, the community, visitors in keeping the environment clean and well maintained. The purpose of this service activity is to socialize the Love Environment Movement carried out by the Cenderawasih University Service Team. Public awareness, especially visitors to Cybery beach, of the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness is still very lacking because there are still people who litter, especially plastic waste used as food wrappers which are left scattered around the beach. The importance of understanding the concept of environmental safety for the community from an early age so that environmental cleanliness can be enjoyed by all communities and public benefits can be achieved through environmental hygiene social action. The basic nature of environmental management and conservation is the main capital for the development of natural resources and human resources so that an active role of the community is needed to strive for environmental conservation. The results achieved in the service are that with this activity, it can foster enthusiasm in saving the environment, even through this activity the Love the Environment Movement can be campaigned, especially in saving Cybery Beach.

Abstract

Sentani Kota Village as a strategic area experiences significant pressure due to population growth and economic activities, facing complex problems including the conversion of agricultural land and forests into residential and commercial areas, low public awareness about sustainable spatial planning, and weaknesses in law enforcement and supervision. This condition potentially threatens the environmental sustainability and ecosystem of Lake Sentani. This study aims to evaluate the suitability of spatial utilization in Sentani Kota Village, Sentani District, Jayapura Regency, focusing on two main issues: the level of conformity between existing spatial utilization and the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) guidelines, and the factors that support and hinder the effectiveness of RTRW implementation. Conducting overlay analysis of existing conditions and spatial pattern maps, complemented by field verification at 28 observation points and stakeholder interviews with the Spatial Planning Agency. The results show that 76.5% (2,759.07 hectares) of spatial utilization conforms to RTRW guidelines, while 22.9% (825.98 hectares) remains non-conforming, and 0.6% (21.66 hectares) violates regulations. Supporting factors include routine monitoring protocols, high conformity levels in designated areas, firm enforcement actions, and community leadership involvement. Conversely, hindering factors encompass low public compliance, non-conforming zones prone to violations, inconsistent enforcement responses, various types of violations, limited sanction mechanisms, and inadequate preventive measures. This study recommends targeted enforcement in critical zones, transition planning for non-conforming areas, lake buffer zone management, enhanced community participation, and systematic monitoring protocols to achieve more effective spatial utilization control.

Abstract

Hiripau Village, inhabited by the Kamoro ethnic community, exhibits housing conditions that do not meet the basic infrastructure standards for livable settlements. This study aims to identify the characteristics of housing facilities and infrastructure, as well as to formulate a development strategy for the area. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, utilizing field observation, in-depth interviews with local residents and traditional leaders, and documentation of existing conditions. The findings indicate that basic infrastructure components such as neighborhood roads, clean water supply, sanitation systems, drainage, and waste management are in inadequate condition. Therefore, the study recommends an integrated planning approach for infrastructure improvement, emphasizing active community participation in the management and maintenance of the residential environment to achieve a habitable and sustainable settlement.

Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of sustainable tourism concept implementation on the community of Tobati-Enggros Village, Jayapura City. Using qualitative descriptive methods with in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis involving 35 informants, this research evaluates three pillars of sustainability: economic, socio-cultural, and environmental aspects. The findings show that sustainable tourism implementation achieves a moderate effectiveness score of 2.7. Economically, tourism creates new employment opportunities and increases community income by 25%-400%, but benefits distribution remains unequal with 70% of profits controlled by 30% of residents. Socio-culturally, tourism helps preserve the unique "Women's Forest" tradition while causing erosion in traditional practices like gotong royong (community cooperation). Environmentally, significant ecosystem degradation occurs with water quality declining 56% and mangrove forest coverage reducing by 10%. The study recommends strengthening community-based tourism institutions, implementing comprehensive waste management systems, and developing community capacity building programs to optimize sustainable tourism benefits while preserving environmental and cultural integrity.

Abstract

Community empowerment is a concept of economic development that summarizes these social values reflecting the new paradigm of development, namely those that are people-centred, participatory, empowering, sustainable, this concept is broader than merely meeting basic needs or providing mechanisms to prevent further impoverishment processes (safety net), whose thoughts have recently been developed as an effort to find alternatives to the concepts of growth in the past. The concept of Empowerment in the field of Entrepreneurship in Nolokla Village is a form of empowerment that involves the community directly, in order to improve the community's economy in the field of entrepreneurship by utilizing the potential that exists in Nolokla Village. The goal to be achieved in this study is to empower the Nolokla Village Community to be able to be an independent entrepreneur. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques, observation, interviews and documentation, and using data analysis techniques in the form of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that there is potential that can be developed through community empowerment efforts, especially in the field of business independently.

Abstract

Green Open Space (GOS) is an essential element in urban spatial planning that functions to maintain air quality and ecosystem balance. This research aims to analyze the influence of GOS on the concentration levels of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in the urban area of Jayapura City. The study locations were focused on two areas with distinct characteristics: Jalan Sam Ratulangi, which has high vegetation coverage, and Jalan Percetakan, which is dominated by built-up areas and dense commercial activity. The methods used include spatial analysis utilizing Landsat 8 satellite imagery Band 4 (Red) and Band 5 (NIR) to calculate the NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), a vegetation time series analysis from 2019–2024, and direct CO2 concentration measurements taken at three different times (morning, noon, afternoon). The data was processed using ArcGIS with the Kriging Interpolation method to generate spatial distribution maps of CO2 in both locations. The results show that Jalan Sam Ratulangi has a GOS area of 6.13 ha (94%), while Jalan Percetakan has only 2.95 ha (31%). This difference significantly impacts CO2 levels, with an average concentration of 484 ppm at Sam Ratulangi, which is lower than Percetakan's average of 567 ppm. The highest CO2 value at Percetakan reached 649 ppm during the afternoon, whereas Sam Ratulangi recorded only 488 ppm. This study proves that the wider and healthier the GOS, the lower the CO2 concentration detected. These results demonstrate that vegetation plays a significant role in reducing carbon emissions in urban areas, supporting the crucial role of GOS in maintaining air quality and supporting sustainable urban development in Jayapura City.
