Abstract

The village of Cisaat in Subang, West Java has sufficient natural potential to make it a tourist destination. The existence of the village needs support from local artistic potential, so that Cisaat can offer natural beauty and artistry that bring aesthetic value. The community must possess the necessary skills to bring art to the village of Cisaat. The current artistic culture in Cisaat still needs development as it has great potential. This village has quite a few inhabitants in the children and teenage age groups. They have great potential to develop and advance Cisaat village as a tourist destination. The partner's problem is the limited number of human resources with experience and background in music. Art education in Cisaat village is still conducted traditionally, with elders only passing down their artistic skills to their own family members. There are many children and teenagers who cannot play music, they only watch and are not involved in artistic activities in the village. The community service events equip the society with music playing skills. The skills acquired potentially create opportunities for developing the community's artistic and tourism potentials. The activities offer benefits towards elevating the cultural and artistic sectors in Cisaat village.

Abstract

Developing Kaulinan Barudak as a Cultural Attraction Based on Traditional Music to Enhance West Java TourismAbstractKaulinan Barudak is a traditional children’s game from West Java that incorporates elements of traditional music and local songs. This cultural art form not only represents local wisdom but also holds significant potential in strengthening cultural identity and enhancing tourism appeal. However, its existence is currently declining due to a lack of innovation, decreasing public interest, and insufficient efforts to package it as a cultural tourism attraction. Therefore, this study aims to develop Kaulinan Barudak as a cultural tourism attraction based on traditional music to enhance the appeal and value of tourist destinations in West Java. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with cultural practitioners, local artists, and tourism managers, as well as literature studies to explore the historical, aesthetic, and commercial potential of this traditional art. Data analysis was carried out using a descriptive-interpretative approach to understand how the revitalization of Kaulinan Barudak can be integrated into sustainable cultural tourism development strategies. The findings indicate that the revitalization of Kaulinan Barudak can be achieved through several strategic approaches, including the organization of annual cultural festivals involving local communities, interactive training programs for younger generations, workshops on traditional music and games, and the use of social media as a platform for publication and promotion. Furthermore, creatively packaging the attraction—such as combining Kaulinan Barudak with more dynamic traditional music performances—can add significant appeal for both domestic and international tourists. These results suggest that revitalizing Kaulinan Barudak not only strengthens local cultural identity but also significantly contributes to enhancing cultural tourism appeal in West Java. Implementing this strategy requires the involvement of various stakeholders, including local governments, cultural communities, and tourism actors, to ensure the sustainability and success of this art form as a high-value tourism asset. Thus, Kaulinan Barudak has the potential to become a cultural tourism icon of West Java, attracting tourists while promoting local wisdom on the global stage. Keywords: Kaulinan Barudak; traditional music; cultural tourism; revitalization of art; cultural identity; West Java

Abstract

This research explores cultural strategies through education, specifically focusing on Community-Based Art Education (CBAE) in Banyuwangi. In order to achieve the stated objective, a qualitative descriptive method was adopted to examine the Kuntulan art form, particularly Hadroh Kuntulan. The art form consisted of playing Hadroh music accompanied by sholawat singing and pencak silat movements that have evolved into dance. This investigation was conducted in Banje Hamlet, Bubuk Village, Rogodjampi District, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, at Islamic Junior High School 8 & Art Studio Gholet Dhulur. The location was selected primarily due to the presence of the Using tribe, which, unlike more well-known groups such as the Baduy and Sasak tribes, remains relatively unknown. Typically, cultural transmission through Community-Based Art Education (CBAE) is facilitated by integrating educational institutions. Within the context of the present exploration, this studio played a central role. In Indonesia, art education is usually incorporated into a school's intracurricular and extracurricular curriculum. These institutions typically form school-age music groups comprising students from various schools. Within this construct, schools and social institutions function as program planners, students as learners, and the broader community as a source of cultural knowledge. The results obtained from this study show that the integration of cultural arts into the school curriculum through partnerships with social institutions plays a crucial role in preserving cultural heritage. It also emphasized that the resilience of these cultural traditions is sustained through the active support and inclusiveness of the community.
