The independent learning policy by the Ministry of Education and Culture, which was followed by the birth of Reform Madrasah, requires teachers to have 21st Century learning competencies, one of which is skills in using IT in learning. In line with that, the ability to manage student-centered classes is very important so that the stigma of learning that is still teacher-centered is no longer often heard. This community service activity aims to improve the competency of Madrasah Tsanawiyah English teachers through training in technology-based learning methods to be implemented in both online and offline learning, through classroom management training to be able to create a fun and student-centered teaching and learning process, and through preparation assistance learning planning and evaluation in South Sulawesi to be able to create a well-planned and measurable learning process. The method used in this training is training by applying the CBR (Community Based Research) model approach. The training was carried out in four stages, namely laying the foundation, planning, collecting and analyzing data (gathering and analyzing information), and following up (action on finding). Participants in this activity were 2 cities and 1 district in South Sulawesi Province including Palopo City, Makassar City and Gowa Regency with a total of 40 teachers from each city and district. The process of selecting training participants is representative of the selected schools on the recommendation of the local City and District Ministry of Religion offices. Abstract

This research investigates how students perceive the difficulty of various grammatical features in the English language. Furthermore, the grammatical features in this research are based on the Semester Learning Plan (RPS) for the grammar subject. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing survey research methodology with a sample of 70 students chosen through purposive sampling. The students' perceptions of twelve grammatical features were assessed using a Likert scale, ranging from “very easy” to “very difficult.” The results revealed diverse perceptions among students regarding the difficulty of these grammatical features, reflecting the complexity of language acquisition. Part of speech, modals, WH-Question, question tag, gerund, direct and indirect, degrees of comparison, and passive voice were perceived as not all difficult. Tenses, causative, infinitives, and conditional sentence were perceived as difficult. These findings underscore the importance of tailored teaching strategies and support to address students' varying perceptions of grammatical difficulty. This research contributes to the field of language education by shedding light on students' perspectives on the difficulty of various grammatical features, filling a gap in research on grammatical difficulty from the learners' viewpoint. The insights gained from this study can guide educators in adapting their teaching methods to better support students in mastering English grammar, ultimately improving their proficiency in the language and facilitating effective communication in both academic and real-world contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the perceptions of EFL learners in the Islamic Education Department regarding reading English journal articles, with a particular focus on affective, cognitive, and behavioural aspects. This study employed a descriptive quantitative method involving 54 respondents. Data were collected via an online questionnaire distributed using Google Forms, which included Likert-scale items. The data were analyzed using simple percentage-based descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that while a majority of students did not have high anxiety in reading English articles, a substantial proportion still perceived English journal articles as difficult. Cognitively, most students understood the purpose and structure of articles, though a smaller group struggled with detailed structural awareness. Behaviorally, students reported benefits such as vocabulary improvement and acknowledged the importance of English journal articles, though only some consistently completed readings or compared article structures. These insights suggest that although students generally recognize the relevance of English journal articles to their academic growth, targeted support is still needed to address specific affective and cognitive barriers to their use.

Abstract

The ability to use English effectively in professional and academic settings is essential for pharmacy students in today’s globalized health and pharmaceutical industries. However, many pharmacy programs still rely on general English courses that do not reflect the specific communicative tasks and discourse practices required in the pharmacy profession. This study aims to analyze the English language needs of pharmacy students as a basis for developing relevant instructional materials. Using a mixed-methods design, data were collected from 80 undergraduate pharmacy students, four lecturers, and two professional pharmacists through questionnaires, interviews, and document analysis. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were interpreted through thematic analysis. The findings reveal that pharmacy students need greater competence in reading and writing scientific texts, mastering technical vocabulary, and developing speaking skills for patient counseling and professional collaboration. The results emphasize the importance of designing English for Specific Purposes (ESP) materials that are context-based, skill-integrated, and aligned with real-world pharmacy communication. The study contributes practical insights for ESP curriculum designers, material developers, and English instructors in health-related disciplines.
