Abstract

Introduction: Indonesia is one of the developing countries with a high under-five mortality rate due to the rough handling of Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI). Diseases that cause death can generally be treated at the hospital level, but it is still difficult at the public health center level. Public Health Centers have implemented (IMCI). Suppose they meet the criteria for implementing/implementing the IMCI approach at least 60% of the number of visits by sick toddlers. This study aimed to describe the knowledge and motivation of IMCI implementers regarding the implementation of IMCI at Lubuk Buaya Public Health Center, Padang, in 2014. Method: This research is descriptive. This research was conducted at the Lubuk Buaya Health Center Padang in May 2014. The population in this study were all IMCI implementers who were actively working at the Lubuk Buaya Public Health Center, Padang, with 37 people. Sampling with total sampling technique and analyzed univariately. Results: From 37 staff implementing IMCI, it was found that 31 (83.8%) staff had implemented IMCI well, 36 (97.3%) staff had high knowledge, and 23 (62.2%) staff had high motivation. Conclusions: This study shows that the knowledge and motivation of IMCI implementers are good in implementing IMCI. It is hoped that every IMCI implementer will further increase knowledge about IMCI and its performance so that all sick toddlers get the best IMCI services to prevent death in these toddlers.

Abstract

In Indonesia, 41.8% of maternal deaths are caused by anemia during pregnancy. The prevalence of anemia in West Sumatra is 17.38%. In Padang City, the prevalence of anemia in Padang City is 43%. One of the factors that can cause anemia during pregnancy is diet. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between diet and Hb levels in pregnant women at the Anak Air Health Center in Padang City in 2025. The type of analytical research was cross-sectional design. The independent variable was diet and the dependent variable was Hb levels. The study population was 38 pregnant women in the first trimester. The sampling technique was Total Sampling. Data collection was by questionnaire and observation. The study was conducted in March 2025 at the Anak Air Health Center. Data processing and data analysis were carried out using the Chi Square test. The results showed that the frequency of respondents' Hb levels showed that some respondents experienced anemia, namely 16 people (57.9%). Respondents had poor diets, namely 17 people (44.7%). The statistical test results obtained a p-value of 0.010 (p-value <0.05), indicating a significant relationship between diet and hemoglobin levels. Diet affects hemoglobin levels in pregnant women. This study is expected to increase respondents' knowledge and insight, provide information for other researchers, and provide evaluation for Community Health Centers.

Abstract

Ancylostomiasis is an important gastrointestinal helminthiasis in cats with zoonotic potential. This case report describes ancylostomiasis in a seven-year-old domestic female cat presented to Yours Animal Clinic, Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, with diarrhea and lethargy. Clinical examination, fecal analysis, and hematological evaluation were performed to establish the diagnosis. Fecal examination using native smear, flotation, centrifugation, and McMaster counting techniques revealed Ancylostoma sp. eggs with an eggs-per-gram (EPG) value of 2,200, indicating a mild infection intensity. Physical examination showed a low body condition score, dull hair coat, mild dehydration, and diarrhea. Hematological analysis demonstrated decreased red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, granulocytes, and platelets, accompanied by increased lymphocytes, monocytes, mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), consistent with anemia and an inflammatory response secondary to helminth infection. Based on these findings, the cat was diagnosed with ancylostomiasis and treated with anthelmintics, fluid therapy, antibiotics, and supportive care. This case highlights the integration of clinical, parasitological, and hematological findings in the diagnosis of ancylostomiasis in cats and underscores the importance of routine deworming, appropriate husbandry, environmental sanitation, and periodic fecal examination to reduce the risk of infection and potential zoonotic transmission.
