Abstract

This study examines the adverse effects of online shopping systems on micro-entrepreneurs from a phenomenological perspective. As e-commerce platforms expand, micro-entrepreneurs face significant challenges that threaten their survival and growth. Through in-depth interviews and analysis of lived experiences, this research uncovers the multifaceted impact of online shopping systems on these small business owners. Key findings highlight increased competition, reduced profit margins, and the loss of direct customer relationships. Additionally, the study reveals how the technological and logistical demands of e-commerce can overwhelm micro-entrepreneurs who lack the resources and expertise to adapt. The findings suggest that while online shopping systems offer opportunities for broader market access, they also create barriers that can exacerbate existing vulnerabilities within this business segment. By exploring these challenges through a phenomenological lens, this research provides a deeper understanding of the personal and professional struggles micro-entrepreneurs face in the digital marketplace. The study calls for more supportive measures and tailored solutions to help micro-entrepreneurs navigate the complexities of online commerce, ensuring their sustainability and contribution to the economy.

Abstract

This research article explores the complex relationship between electoral processes and the economic dynamics of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia. Through a comprehensive analysis of the economic activities and funding sources of pesantren, this research aims to identify both the beneficial and detrimental impacts of elections on these religious institutions. The research highlights how political campaigns and promises of financial support during election periods can lead to increased investments and improvements in infrastructure within pesantren. Conversely, the research also uncovers the potential for economic instability caused by the politicization of educational funding, leading to fluctuating resources and dependency on political agendas. By examining case studies from various regions, the article provides a nuanced understanding of how electoral outcomes can influence the sustainability and economic resilience of Islamic boarding schools. The findings underscore the need for a more stable and transparent funding mechanism that ensures the financial health of pesantren, irrespective of political cycles. This research contributes to the broader discourse on the intersection of politics, education, and religion in Indonesia, offering valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and religious leaders.

Abstract

Implementing English as a mandatory language for teaching remains a contentious policy, especially among educators who are not English subject teachers or do not come from the English department. This research investigates the policies, opportunities, and challenges associated with enforcing English language policies in Islamic schools in Indonesia. Using a mixed-method design, the study surveyed 77 participants from various Islamic schools across Indonesia, employing questionnaires, observations, and interviews for data collection. The findings reveal that specific policies in Indonesian Islamic schools can address three key aspects: justification (addressing particular needs and challenges while maximizing benefits and minimizing drawbacks), logic (strategic implementation to optimize outcomes), and feasibility (practicality and achievability of implementing English language policies). Furthermore, English language policies present significant opportunities, such as enhanced global competence, economic empowerment, educational advancement, cultural exchange and understanding, technological integration, and international collaboration and partnerships. However, several challenges hinder the implementation of these policies, including the preservation of cultural identity and values, resource constraints, language proficiency, resistance to change, and assessment and evaluation. Future research is expected to explore new strategies to overcome these challenges and maximize the opportunities of using English in Indonesian Islamic schools, thereby ensuring the success of English language policies.

Abstract

In the world of literary research, a film is a very interesting object of research. A film is a literary work that can provide a lot of values to human life. This study aims to explore the hypermasculinity that exists in the 3D animated film entitled The Croods. The film was released in 2013 and tells the story of a family led by a man named Grug. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method and the data from this research are formed from two types of data, namely the main data and supporting data. The main data of this study was obtained from the film "The Croods" while the supporting data are from websites. The data obtained are analyzed using four stages, namely data collection, data display, data reduction, and conclusion. The results of this study indicate that hypermasculinity is seen in the main character who is protective, caring, responsible, strong, brave, and stubborn. This finding is reflected in the dialogues, actions, and fashion that occur in the film.

Abstract

This descriptive research explores the economic roles and challenges of transgender individuals in Mojokerto, Indonesia, focusing on their experiences of discrimination, economic survival strategies, and community support. Employing a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and participant observations were conducted with 30 transgender individuals. Findings reveal pervasive discrimination in employment, education, and healthcare, leading many to pursue informal sector work. Despite barriers, transgender individuals demonstrate resilience through entrepreneurship and community networks, contributing to local economic activities. Cultural and religious contexts influence their experiences, sometimes providing unexpected support. Limitations include sample size and potential biases in self-reported data. Recommendations include policy reforms for anti-discrimination laws, inclusive education, healthcare access, and community-based economic initiatives. This study contributes nuanced insights into transgender economic experiences in Mojokerto, advocating for inclusive policies and future research to enhance understanding and support for transgender communities globally.

Abstract

Racism is unfair different treatment of people in society. The purpose of this study to describethe form of racism in Cora in The Underground Railroad. Cora’s racism at The Underground Railroad is one of social problem held in the novel. This study used qualitative approach as the method. The data of the study were Cora’s action, utterances, narration, other character action to Cora in The Underground Railroad. The writer collected the data by underlining the sentences reading the novel many times, identifying racism actions, analyzing the data, and concluded the data. Cora’s racism in The Underground Railroad showed how Cora suffered during enslaved by her master even her effort to run away from her master. The writer founds five forms of Cora’s racism were discrimination, prejudice, segregation, stereotypes, and violence. The most of racial practices and many kinds of violence had experienced by Cora for being enslaved by her master.

Abstract

Communication is one of the activities most often used by humans as a social community, the communication used by someone has differences based on their respective backgrounds. one that affects the form of one's communication is generation. Generation Y and Generation X have different communication styles based on their background. The purpose of this study was to find out the strategies used by Y and X generation Y and X master students in communicating in Islamic education classroom. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, this method is used to describe data accurately and in depth. based on the results of the research, the strategy used by master students of generations Y and X is a politeness strategy, the politeness strategies of generation Y and X master students differ depending on the situation when communicating.
