Abstract

The burning of the Qur'an by Rasmus Paludan reignited Islamophobia. Sweden has a large population of Muslims. Some opinions in various Western media, such as the BBC, considered that the action taken by Paludan was because Sweden was denied membership in the NATO. The author assumes that Paludan's Qur'an burning was purely political and aimed to gain protection from NATO, both in terms of security and economy, but the effort was blocked by Turkey, which is a NATO member and Erdogan suspected that Paludan was working with Kurdish terrorist organizations. This article illustrates how the root causes of the Koran burning case committed by Paludan affected the European community's fear of the development of Islam so that Muslims are not free to practice or express their religious values in public spaces. Various groups reacted strongly to this, including Erdogan, who condemned Paludan’s actions. This article also examines how various groups, including Muslims and the Swedish government, responded to Paludan's actions.

Abstract

This study analyzes the dynamics of wars that occurred in the history of the Islamic community, starting from the time of Prophet Muhammad to the Abbasid Dynasty. The study aims to understand how wars that initially focused on self-defense evolved into more complex internal conflicts, including civil wars. Using a historical and critical approach, this research explores the factors that drove this shift, including political, social, and religious influences. The findings of this study indicate that although the wars were initially motivated by the principle of defense against external threats, over time, various political interests and divisions within the Islamic community triggered internal conflicts, leading to civil wars. This research provides insights into the long-term impact of these conflicts on political and social developments in Islamic history.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the influence of social media usage on the presence of insecurity among its users. In this digital era, social media has become a part of daily life, providing a platform for communication, information sharing, and social connections. However, excessive usage can have negative impacts on individuals' mental well-being, one of which is the presence of insecurity. This study utilizes an analytical approach to identify factors contributing to the existence of insecurity among social media users. The research methods employed include literature review and qualitative data analysis. The analysis results indicate that intensive social media usage and excessive focus on social comparisons can increase individuals' tendency to feel insecure. Continuous exposure to idealized portrayals of others' lives on social media can also lead to dissatisfaction with oneself and reinforce feelings of insecurity. Furthermore, the perception of social validation obtained from online interactions can create pressure and increase the need for validation from others, consequently amplifying the presence of insecurity.

Abstract

This research examines the development of maritime culture in the Islamic Mataram Kingdom during Sultan Agung (1613-1645 AD), focusing on the interaction between agrarian and maritime cultures that shaped the Kingdom's identity. The Islamic Mataram Kingdom, located in the interior of Java, not only developed agrarian power but also made maritime expansion efforts as its power base. Through a historical approach using political and cultural analyses of primary sources, such as Babad Tanah Djawi, with the concepts of continuity and change as well as cultural acculturation as the basis for understanding the social dynamics that occurred, this research explores Sultan Agung's various policies, including the development of port infrastructure, the strengthening of the navy, and the development of religious traditions related to the sea. The results show that these policies expanded trade routes and strengthened the Kingdom's social and political legitimacy. By integrating local culture and Islamic elements, Sultan Agung created a synergy between agrarian and maritime power, significantly impacting Mataram society's economic and social stability. The findings are expected to provide new insights into the role of marine culture in Indonesian history, which is inclusive, cosmopolitan, multicultural, intercultural/mutual cooperation, and egalitarian, and its relevance in the context of marine culture development today.
