Abstract

Mathematics learning is a teaching and learning process built by teachers to develop students' creative thinking that can improve students' thinking skills, and can construct new knowledge as an effort to improve good mastery of mathematical material, especially around circles. The purpose of this study is how the knowledge of class VIII SMP Negeri Tamalabang on the value of phi (π) and the ability to understand and solve problems related to determining the circumference and circle. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The form of descriptive research used is case research. The results showed that students' understanding in finding the value of phi and the formula for the circumference of a circle developed well from the comparison of pree test and post test. This learning design makes students look more active and begins to show the ability to express opinions even though the result is that there is a development in students' understanding. Students' understanding in finding the value of phi and the formula for the circumference and area of a circle developed well from the comparison of pree test and post test. This learning design makes students look more active and begins to show the ability to express opinions even though the result is that there is a development in students' understanding. The average pree test and post test scores of 21 class VIII students of SMP Negeri Tamalabang are for the average pree test score for the area of the circle is 55.05 and for the pree test average value is 84.76. Meanwhile, from the 21 people who were assessed, it turned out that the average value of the area of the circle where the pree test score was 54,095 and the post test average was 86,190. This indicates that there is a well-developed understanding of the eighth grade students. In other words, many students understand the concept of the circumference of a circle and are able to solve problems related to the circumference of a circle. There needs to be motivation that stimulates students to continue to study hard, especially in the field of mathematics.

Abstract

Fishermen are groups of individuals who carry out fishing and other aquatic biota in various types of waters, including fresh, brackish, and marine waters. Fishermen are communities that live on the coast and rely on marine catches for their livelihood. Although fraught with risks, the fishing profession is often passed down from generation to generation in Indonesia. However, their economic conditions are often affected by various factors, including climate problems such as famine seasons that occur every year. BPS 2013 data shows that fishermen and fishing communities play a large role in Indonesia's poverty rate. This study adopts a qualitative approach, by applying direct interviews with fishermen and document collection as data collection methods. Research findings show that fishermen face challenges in fishing, especially during high sea waves and lean seasons. In West Overtime Village, North Central Alor District, fishermen have difficulty finding fish because of the large rompong that affects the movement of fish in these waters. This condition encourages most fishermen to switch professions to become farmers to meet their daily needs. In small fishing communities, visible traits include the use of small-scale fishing gear, uncertain income, independent operations, and simple skills. Social and geographical isolation are also influencing factors, along with low levels of well-being. This research provides an in-depth understanding of the conditions and challenges faced by fishing communities and their impact on their welfare. Therefore, this research makes a valuable contribution in understanding the lives of fishermen in coastal Indonesia.

Abstract

Innovation in learning mathematics needs to be done so that the goals of learning mathematics can be achieved effectively. One of the innovations that can be done is to utilize Alor cultural products (Wolwal Village) in learning mathematics. Besides being able to learn mathematics well, students can also get to know their culture which is slowly being forgotten. This study aims to describe the results of an ethnomathematics exploration of the culture of Alor (Wolwal Village) which can be utilized in learning mathematics. Community service activities are carried out with assistance in learning ethnomathematics-based mathematics through participatory action research (PAR) service, namely action service as a result of the service process with the stages of preparation, implementation, evaluation and reflection 1) in the preparation stage, the community service team conducts surveys and discussions with partners namely the principal and homeroom teacher as well as the mathematics subject teacher at SD GMIT 034 Wolwal; 2) The stage of implementing activities for grade 1 students at SD GMIT 034 Wolwal by delivering material and ethnomathematics practices, namely the traditional siki doka game related to mathematics. In connection with this activity, the author tries to gather information through literature, observations and interviews with one of the teachers of SD GMIT 034 Wolwal who is a Wolwal native who knows information about the object to be explored. The results of the study show that there are many cultural products in Wolwal Village that have the potential for learning mathematics, for example cultural products in the form of traditional food, traditional games, handicrafts, and so on. If the cultural products of Wolwal Village can be used properly in learning mathematics, then it will create meaningful learning for SD GMIT 034 Wolwal students.
