Abstract

Cognitive radio is a technology which will enable the use of a limited spectrum optimally. Devices implemented with cognitive radio capability is referred as White Space Device (WSD) as they can identify and utilize idle channels. This paper investigates the interference potential between aeronautical radio navigation services and WSD as they co-exist in the 960 MHz spectrum using Minimum Coupling Loss (MCL) formulae and simulations using Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool (SEAMCAT). Results show that the permissible interference level is -81,589 dBm which is achievable if the two systems are separated by 36 km. Decreasing the WSD power level or increasing the RSBN gain by 1 dBm can decrease the protection distance between the two systems to 30 km to achieve an interference probability of 3,55% and 3,6%, respectively. Keywords: white space devices, interference, aeronautical radio navigation

Abstract

The increasing number of users in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network often decreases network performance. A cell that has high traffic experiences a decline in network performance due to unavailable resources for certain users, while in cells with low traffic, the use of resources in these cells is inefficient. The mobility load balancing (MLB) algorithm balances the intercellular loads in an LTE network and improves the performance by distributing part of the load in a high traffic cell to neighboring cells that have low loads. An activated MLB will detect the network load and calculate the available resource for each cell to determine which cells are overloaded. The MLB will consider the candidate cell where the load could be distributed. MLB simulation results show that the application of MLB has succeeded in reducing the percentage of unsatisfied users by 9.4% and increasing throughput system to 5.617 Mbps.

Abstract

Electric bicycles are designed to use renewable energy to support the government's efforts to reduce carbon emission consumption. Problems in every region or city regarding fueled vehicles certainly increase air pollution. Generally, electric bicycles are designed to be a solution and are used in daily life to carry out daily activities by requiring a bicycle gas throttle control that can assist the driver or person in controlling the speed of the electric bicycle. In this study, designing a solar electric bicycle as environmentally friendly energy based on PWM signals to determine the duty cycle value or duty cycle with an optimized PWM value can affect the speed system (km / h) in Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) to determine the performance of the DC motor. The electric bicycle uses 30Wp solar power, two 12V 7.5 Ah batteries assembled in series, and a 24V 250W DC brushless motor. Based on the design results with a total weight of 37kg electric bicycle plus the weight of 55kg, 65kg, 75kg, and 85kg driver variations, the total controller power value is 163.44 watts. The results of duty cycle testing (duty cycle) were 25%, 50%, 75%, and 98%, with 249.9 as the maximum value of PWM and 9.8 Vout generated against the maximum speed of the electric bicycle of 2648 RPM or the equivalent of an electric bicycle speed of 18-28 km/hour. In this case, the electric bicycle is in a condition suitable for use to carry out daily activities by utilizing clean, cheap and appropriate energy

Abstract

One of the most favorable frequency bands for 5G technology is the 27.5 - 28.5 GHz band which has been used by Fixed Satellite System (FSS) service in the uplink direction. This potentially causes interference between the two systems. This study aims to analyze the interference that occurs between satellite earth stations and 5G access points (AP), and between 5G AP and satellite sky stations. The analysis is carried out based on simulations using the Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool (SEAMCAT) software, with two scenarios. The first scenario is to analyze interference between the 5G AP and the FSS sky station. With the C/I interference criterion of 40.2 dB, the simulation results show that the 5G AP will not interfere with the FSS sky station. The second scenario is the interference simulation between FSS earth station and 5G AP. The simulation is carried out by varying the distance between the earth station and the 5G AP, the height of the earth station, and the height of the 5G AP. Based on the simulations, it is shown that the FSS earth station can interfere with 5G AP with a probability of up to 60%, so it is necessary to adjust the distance between systems and the height of the antenna to minimize the interference. The shortest distance needed to minimize interference is 36 km with an earth station height of 5 meters.

Abstract

Compared to traditional lignocellulose biomass, microalgae contain little or no lignin. Traditionally, bioethanol production from microalgae undergoes three major steps: (i) pretreatment; (ii) polysaccharides hydrolysis into simple sugars; and (iii) sugar conversion into bioethanol by fermentation. Microalgae convert sunlight, water, and CO2 into algal biomass. Diatoms, green algae, bluegreen algae, and golden algae are four main classes of microalgae, whereas the two main species of algae are filamentous and phytoplankton algae. Microalgae convert solar energy efficiently, producing an enormous number of various metabolites. Many studies have been conducted to convert microalgae into various biofuels, such as biodiesel, bioethanol, biohydrogen, and biogas. However, compared to biodiesel, bioethanol production from algae throughfermentation consumes less energy with its simplified process. Considering these advantages, a number of potential applications for microalgae have been proposed and developed. Despite the promising of bioethanol from microalgae, it still has a number of obstacles, such as the low fermentable carbohydrate content of microalgae. This article intends to discuss the methods to increase microalgae carbohydrates thoroughly. To solve this problem, several nutritional starvations/limitations, like nitrogen and phosphorous starvation, are currently being considered in this paper.
