Abstract

This paper attempt to analyze frameworks related to Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma. The basis of analysis the frameworks is the diffusion of innovation theory. Several criteria was used to analyze the frameworks e.g. relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability, observability, communication channels, nature of the social system/culture and extent of change agent.    Based on framework analysis, there is only one framework fits to Rogers’ theory on diffusion of innovation. The framework is a Lean Six Sigma framework which consists elements such owner/manager commitment and involvement, employee involvement, training, culture change and external support. Even though the elements have similarity to other Six Sigma frameworks but they put more attention on culture change and external support. Generally speaking, the culture change and external support are the most important elements to the implementation of Six Sigma or other soft approaches particularly for small organizations.

Abstract

Abstract

The year 2015 is an important point for businesses, especially in the food and beverage sector, in order to prepare materials, products, processes and facilities that are clean, healthy and safe and halal for public consumption. SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) are required to be more active in improving the quality of their products and services because of the implementation of the AEC (Asian Economic Community). Islam is known to be the fastest growing religion in this decade. In 2010 the number of Muslims in the world reached 1.6 billion and is expected to reach 2.2 billion by 2030 (Pew Research Center, 2011). The increase in demand for the world halal market has reached US$2.3 trillion annually where halal food products alone have recorded US$693 billion (MITI, 2012). For this reason, halal certification is needed. Halal certification is a process for obtaining a halal certificate through several stages of examination to prove that the ingredients, production process, and halal assurance system meet the standards of the Indonesian Ulema Council's Food, Drug and Cosmetic Assessment Institute (LPPOM MUI). The purpose of this service is to provide knowledge in the form of insight and understanding of halal toyiban ingredients, products, processes and facilities and assistance on the importance of halal certification to canteen owners in the environment around the Faculty of Engineering Unhas, Bontomarannu Gowa. The methods used in this socialization are; by conducting open meetings between partners and the academic community involved, then continued by listening to inspiration and discussion with the head of the halal assurance institution (LPH) or the Halal Assurance Center (PPH) Hasanuddin University. This socialization activity begins by giving a pre-tes to business actors to find out their initial knowledge of Halal, then at the end of the meeting a post-tes is conducted again in order to get an increase in knowledge and information and insights of business actors regarding this Halal. The results in the correct answer in the pre tes were 33% correct and in the post tes there were 67% who answered correctly. While in the wrong answer 76% were seen in the pre tes and 24% were seen wrong in the post tes. The results of socialization activities are an increase in knowledge and understanding of business actors regarding halal ingredients, products, processes, facilities due to their motivation and enthusiasm to know more about this halal product. These SMEs are already aware and understand to have halal certification, which can be used for the progress of their SME business.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance the understanding and skills of the Dinas Lingkungan Hidup (DLH) of Pangkep Regency in using SimaPro software for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) within the context of environmental sustainability. Currently, DLH Pangkep faces challenges in conducting environmental impact assessments manually, which require significant human resources, time, and costs. Through the socialization and training of SimaPro usage, this activity aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of DLH in assessing the environmental impact of production systems. The implementation methods include needs assessment, activity planning, an opening session, practical training in using SimaPro, discussions and Q&A sessions, as well as evaluation and feedback. The expected outcomes include increased understanding and skills of participants in using SimaPro for LCA, along with scientific publications. This activity is expected to enhance the capacity of DLH Pangkep in conducting more comprehensive and efficient environmental impact assessments, thereby supporting DLH in making more sustainable decisions related to environmental policies in Pangkep Regency. Quantitative analysis of pre-test and post-test results shows a significant improvement in participants' understanding and skills, especially in using SimaPro, with a 191.7% increase. This indicates the success of the training in enhancing DLH Pangkep's competency in environmental impact assessment.

Abstract

The advancement of technology in the construction materials industry sector is rapid, so that it is always necessary to innovate in order to create material products that are in line with current construction trends. PT. XYZ is a construction materials company that manufactures lightweight bricks using the Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (ACC) system. Many problems were discovered during the lightweight brick production process that did not match the quality of lightweight brick products with the standards set by the company. This study aims to identify the types of defects in lightweight brick production; determine the current sigma value (baseline) in lightweight brick production; identify the factors that cause defective products; and propose appropriate improvement to minimise defects and reduce losses caused by high defect rates in order to meet KPIs. According to the Pareto diagram analysis, the defects with the highest priority for repair are fracture (55.78 percent), cracked (30.65 percent), and broken (13.57 percent). The sigma level of lightweight brick production at PT. XYZ is 3.32, with the largest defect being 57,708 lightweight brick items per million opportunity of production. Based on the analysis of the Fishbone diagram, the potential factors that cause defective products are humans, machines, materials, methods, and measurements. The proposed improvements in the Improve stage are based on the results of the analysis using the Failure, Mode, and Effect Analysis (FMEA) method, where the company can determine appropriate preventive actions and improvements to reduce defective products and increase competitiveness.

Abstract

This community service program (PkM) focuses on empowering small and medium industries (SMEs) producing tenteng in Malino, Gowa Regency, through socialization and mentoring activities aimed at increasing awareness of occupational health and safety (OHS) in the workplace and creating an environmentally friendly working environment. Small and medium industries serve as the driving force of the national economy, contributing significantly to employment and economic growth. However, many SME actors face challenges in implementing occupational safety and health standards due to limited resources and knowledge. This program aims to enhance the awareness and compliance of SME actors regarding occupational health and safety aspects. Through training, socialization, and the implementation of OHS standards, it is expected that the risks of accidents and occupational diseases can be minimized, productivity can be improved, and a safe and healthy work environment can be established. The methods used include providing education and assistance in hazard identification. The pre-test results showed participants’ understanding levels ranged from 8% to 21%, while the post-test results after the socialization showed a significant improvement, reaching 66% to 85%. These results indicate that the socialization and mentoring activities effectively improved participants knowledge and awareness of OHS culture, particularly regarding hazard identification, prevention measures, and the proper use of fire extinguishers.
