Abstract

The phenomenon of online gaming is certainly a concern for all parents. Not only in Indonesia but also around the world. Ternate North Maluku is one of the cities in Indonesia that became the site of this current study, which explains the phenomenon of online games taking place and their role in children's autonomous English learning. This study is located in Jerbus Village, South Ternate. To provide more honest and accurate data, the interviews were semi-structured with 11 children aged 7 to 12 years old. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, the data analysis and interpretation used raw data, preparing data for analysis, collecting the data on the computer, coding data, relating themes, and interpreting the meaning of themes and descriptions (Creswell, 2009, p. 185). The results of this study explain that online games encourage children to learn English independently without any coercion from others. It also helps them learn English naturally and contributes to children's English acquisition. This research conclusion is that online games have so far only been considered to bring negative influences to children who have been addicted, such as the absence of socialization, lack of social interaction, affecting the quality of learning, and many other negative influences. This current study proves that online games also have a positive side. The positive role is to replace lost face-to-face social interaction with online interaction. In addition, the online game stimulated children's communication using English

Abstract

The aims of the research were to know (1) the lecturer’s obstacles in teaching listening, (2) the lecturer’s strategies in overcoming the obstacles, and (3) the sudents’ motivation and attitude in learning listening. The data was conducted by interview in semi-structured interview with the lecturer and structured interviewed with the students, and doing the observation toward the lecturer’s obtacles and the strategies, and the students’ motivation and attitude. The result of the research found that the lecturer’s obstacles in teaching listening were in four factors. The first was students factors: the students’ lack in vocabularies and grammar, and the students’ low motivation in learning listening. The second was speakers factor: the speakers’ accent especially the native speakers’ accent in conversation make the students difficult and can not catched the uttarances by the speakers because they speak too fast. The third was teaching methods factors: the lecturer used inappropriate material for the college students. The fourth was classroom fasilities: unreadiness of listening material books, unreadiness of language laboratory and unreadiness of listening module for the students. Furthermore, the strategies used by the lecturer in overcoming the obstacles consisted of predicting strategy to overcome the students’ low motivation. Monitoring, evaluating and clarifying strategy to solve the obstacle with students’ lack in grammar and vocabularies. Responding and monitoring strategy to overcome the problem about the speakers. The lecturer used material based on students’ level to solve the teaching method problem about in appropriate listening materials for college students. The lecturer used material from another resources to taught the students, the using of language laboratory from other school for teaching listening and gave materials for the students to independent study to overcome the unreadiness of listening module. In addition, the result of the research also found that the students’ motivation in learning listening were in moderate level and the students’ attitude toward learning listening were in high positive attitude.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out whether small group discussion can motivate students in speaking English or not and to know the factors of students have not motivation in speaking English. The participants of the researcher are 25 students of tenth grade of MA Al-Khairaat Guraping. The method of the research is qualitative research and the result of the research is the students were motivated when small group discussion applied as a technique in teaching English. The students were so happy and active when speaking English in small group and they can speak without afraid they will make mistake, they can responds the teacher’s questions and asking a questions when they did not know the materials and they have desire in practice speaking and they know the important of English for their future. They also can work together in a group, they can practice speaking without afraid and feeling shame, and the extensive materials make them happy to learn English. So that, the conclusion is small group discussion can motivate students’ in speaking English but the teacher must have big attention to the students who still less in motivation.

Abstract

Curriculum Merdeka is new curriculum that the government applied in the school. Curriculum Merdeka also new for the teacher to understand and to apply it at the class. This research aims to know the teachers’ obstacles in applying Merdeka Curriculum. As a new curriculum, of course the teachers will faced many obstacles. This research also aims to know how the teachers find the solutions to fix the obstacles they faced. This research sites at SMA Negeri 5 Kota Tidore Kepulauan. The participant of this research consists of all the teachers in class X that have implementing curriculum of Merdeka Belajar. Technique of collecting the data is using questionnaire and analyzing the data by organized the data, then interpreted the data from google form, and the last is presented the data into the research result. The result of this research is there are many obstacles that the teachers at SMA Negeri 5 Kota Tidore Kepulauan faced. They are administrative difficulties such as analyzing teaching modules and assessment, and the implementation of Curriculum Merdeka such as not utilizing the technology and not implementing differentiated learning.

Abstract

Penelitian ini telah di lakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui strategi guru Bahasa Inggris dalam melestarikan kearifan local budaya pada pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif. Partisipan dari penelitian ini adalah seoarang guru Bahasa Inggris SMA Al-Khasanah Kusu, kecamatan Oba Utara Kota Tidore Kepulauan. Dalam memperoleh data dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan observasi dan wawancara dengan menggunakan alat bantu untuk mrekam video pada observasi dan wawancara. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa strategi guru untuk melestarikan kearifan local budaya pada pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris adalah guru mendesain materi yang diajarkan berdasarkan kondisi dan kebutuhan serta latar belakang budaya siswa sehingga dapat dengan mudah mendesain materinya. Materi-materi yang di ajarkan yang berbasis kearifan local Budaya adalah dalam pembelajaran Speaking, guru mendesain materi untuk Presentasi tentang tradisi local, pada pembelajaran Writing dengan cara menulis deskripsi atau cerita rakyat. Kemudian untuk skill Reading dengan mengajarkan teks tentang budaya Maluku Utara, dan yang terakhir adalah Listening yaitu dengan cara mendengar cerita lokal yang dibacakan atau rekaman narasi. Selain itu, adapun kendala dalam mendesain materi yaitu keterbatasan sumber daya dan referensi lokal yang bisa dijadikan materi. Juga, beberapa siswa kurang percaya diri menggunakan bahasa Inggris untuk bercerita tentang budaya mereka.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk mengeatahui upaya guru dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pembelajaran siswa TK. Penelitian tersebut dilakukan di Sekolah TK Pembina 31 Kota Tidore Kepulauan. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah guru-guru TK Pembina 31 Tikep yang berjumlah 3 orang. Peneliti mengumpulkan data melalui wawancara. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah adanya kesulitan dalam pembelajaran sehingga upaya guru dalam meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam pembelajaran adalah mengulang kembali apa yang diajarkan seperti Memperkenalkan warna dengan cara menyajikan balok yang berwarna warni, Dengan balok juga dapat memperkenalkan bentuknya, Memperkenalkan angka dan huruf dengan menggunakan media pembelajaran yang menarik, Mengajarkan anak menyanyi disetiap kali pertemuan, Mengajarkan huruf hijaiyah untuk melatih pengetahuan agama anak, Mengajarkan anak mengenal benda-benda di sekitar melalui objek langsung maupun visual gambar, Mengajarkan membaca doa di setiap awal maupun akhir pembelajaran dan doa-doa serta ayat pendek lainnya.
