Abstract

Background: Hadang is a traditional Indonesian team sport that demands a high level of whole-body reaction time and unilateral postural control. Various training modalities have been shown to improve key physical components which collectively support performance in fast-paced games like the hadang. However, evidence on the effectiveness of neuromuscular training in this sport is limited. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of 8 weeks of neuromuscular training on balance and reaction speed in university-level Hadang athletes. Methods: A quasi-experimental, controlled pretest–posttest design with two parallel groups was used. Thirty athletes were allocated to either a neuromuscular training group (NTG; n = 15; 3 sessions/week for 8 weeks; ~30–40 minutes/session) or a control training group (CTG; regular training without neuromuscular training). Primary outcomes were unilateral balance and whole-body reaction time. Data were analyzed using 2 × 2 mixed-design ANOVA, with paired t-tests for simple effects. Findings/Results: Compared to CTG, NTG demonstrated significant improvements in balance and significant decreases in whole-body reaction time, while changes in CTG were not substantial. Conclusion: Eight weeks of structured neuromuscular training effectively improved balance and reaction time in college-level hadang athletes, with moderate effect sizes for balance and large effects for reaction time. Given its simplicity, minimal equipment requirements, and compatibility with standard training microcycles, neuromuscular training is worthy of adoption as a core, evidence-based component of performance periodization for hadang.

Abstract

Tests and measurements in the field of sports are important to reach the peak of achievement. With advances in technology in the field of sports can help make it easier to carry out tests and measurements. Upper muscle explosive power (upper body) is one important component to achieve achievement in each sport. The results of observations in the field, tests and measurement of upper muscle explosive power are still using manuals not digitally, such as push up Ball uses a measuring instrument in the form of a long ruler or meter. The method used in this study is the Research & Development (R&D) method that refers to the 4D model of the development of Thiagaradjan & Semmel with steps  including Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The research subjects are athletes who will compete in the 2024 National Sports Week (PON) Banten Province and its surroundings. Data collection methods are carried out using media and material validation questionnaires. Data analysis techniques use descriptive statistics that refer to the guide of Mardapi (2018), namely by converting score data on the questionnaire sheet into a qualitative form, calculating the average score of the total filling of the questionnaire sheet, and changing the average score into a qualitative value. The results show that it is very practical as indicated by the results of the questionnaire and has good effectiveness on training results.

Abstract

The development of physical and motor abilities in school-age children plays an essential role in supporting optimal growth and development. This study aimed to determine the profile of flexibility and hand–eye coordination among children aged 10–12 years in the coastal area of Anyer, Banten. This study employed a quantitative descriptive method using a survey approach. The population consisted of children aged 10–12 years living in the coastal area of Anyer, Banten. The sample included 43 children, consisting of 24 girls and 19 boys, selected using purposive sampling techniques. The instruments used were the sit and reach test to measure flexibility and the ball throw-and-catch test to measure hand–eye coordination. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of frequencies and percentages. The results showed that the flexibility level of children aged 10–12 years was predominantly categorized as very good, with 27 children (62.79%), followed by good with 11 children (25.58%) and moderate with 5 children (11.62%). In contrast, the hand–eye coordination test revealed that 25 children (58.14%) were categorized as poor, 13 children (30.23%) as moderate, 3 children (6.98%) as very poor, and only 2 children (4.65%) as good. The findings indicate that children living in the coastal area of Anyer generally demonstrate excellent flexibility; however, their hand–eye coordination ability remains relatively low. Therefore, physical education programs should provide more structured visual–motor coordination activities through manipulative games and sports activities to improve children’s motor development.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to provide post-training mentoring and evaluation water safety skills for individuals with hearing disabilities in DKI Jakarta. The program was initiated in response to the limited access to inclusive water safety education and the high risk of water-related accidents among persons with disabilities. The activities focused on strengthening participants’ understanding, practical skills, and independence in applying water safety principles after completing the initial basic training. The implementation methods included direct assistance in swimming pool sessions, the use of visual media and sign language, emergency situation simulations, and structured skill assessments through observation instruments. The evaluation process measured improvements in knowledge, basic water safety techniques, and participants’ responses to potential risk situations in aquatic environments. In addition, reflective discussions were conducted with instructors and facilitators to identify challenges and areas for further program development. The results indicated an increase in participants’ understanding of water safety concepts, improvement in self-rescue skills, and enhanced confidence in engaging in aquatic activities. Continuous mentoring proved effective in strengthening skill retention and minimizing accident risks. This program recommends the development of adaptive, collaborative, and sustainable water safety training models as part of broader efforts to promote inclusive sports and physical education services for individuals with hearing disabilities.
