Abstract

Entering the modern era and the rapid pace of technology, mental health has become an important issue that must be paid attention to, especially for teenagers and adults who are currently known to tend to experience excessive stress, anxiety and depression. Mental health issues are closely related to the strawberry generation, which is considered to have a soul that is more vulnerable and sensitive to pressure from the social environment, family and social media than previous generations. The pressure they experience makes them a generation that has a higher level of awareness of mental health issues compared to previous generations, which leads to this happening self diagnose or self-identify without assistance from a medical professional. This research is aimed at understanding habits self diagnose among FISIP students at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) as the strawberry generation, with qualitative methods and phEnomEnological research types explored through George Herbert Mead's "I" and "Me" theory. Research data collection was carried out using structured interview techniques, participatory observation, and collecting documentation in the form of screenshots of recordings of the results of the researcher's interviews with informants, which were analyzed through data reduction techniques, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the Strawberry Generation has different perceptions in each of their respective perspectives, in addition to different perceptions, they also believe that the self-perception they have is the reality that actually occurs in their lives without any coercion. The Strawberry Generation also has a life image that is inversely proportional to the original self-perception they have, about how they want to be seen by others, but the reality is not like their original self-perception.

Abstract

The shift in tourist preferences toward experience-based tourism and environmental responsibility presents significant opportunities for developing Hinas Kiri Village as a tourist destination. Natural attractions such as the hiking trails of Mount Halau-Halau and the cultural richness of the Dayak Meratus people are the main draws that can be further optimized. The development of this village follows a community empowerment approach through the “live-in” method, where the team resides with the local community to build deeper connections and understand their lifestyle and wisdom. One of the key steps is holding Village Discussions, which explore the community's creative economic potential. The focus is on handicrafts and simpai accessories, which hold high cultural value and can become the village's signature products. These products are expected not only to increase community income but also to introduce Dayak Meratus culture to visiting tourists. Community empowerment is carried out through various trainings, including craft skills, business management, and marketing. Additionally, collaboration with the government and tourism-aware groups (POKDARWIS) is crucial for creating a sustainable tourism ecosystem. Infrastructure support, such as road access, tourism facilities, and appropriate promotion, is needed to make the village's tourism potential more widely known and attract tourists. However, this development must be carried out wisely, balancing economic growth, cultural preservation, and environmental sustainability. The natural environment and customs of the Dayak Meratus people are important identities that must be preserved and are expected to develop sustainably, providing economic benefits for the local community while preserving cultural heritage and maintaining the natural environment, which is the village's primary asset.

Abstract

The shifting meaning of the hijab from a symbol of religiosity to a part of lifestyle and identity expression has given rise to the phenomenon of removing and re-wearing the hijab, which in turn sparks debates and new perspectives within society. This study aims to explore how female university students construct their self-concept leading to the practice of removing and re-wearing the hijab, as well as how they adapt to their social environment. Using a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods, data were collected through non-participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that students’ self-concept is shaped by a combination of personal values, physical comfort, aesthetic perception, and social norms. In practice, they adjust their appearance according to context: maintaining neatness in formal events, dressing more casually in peer groups, and constructing a certain image on social media. Social pressures emerge not only from direct interactions in their surroundings but also from comments and judgments in digital spaces. Employing Cooley’s Looking Glass Self theory, the study shows that others’ perceptions serve as a mirror that influences how students evaluate themselves and determine their appearance choices. This research contributes to sociological discussions on the dynamics of religious identity, social pressure in public spaces, and the negotiation of Muslim women’s identities within modernity. Further research is recommended to examine the phenomenon of hijab removal and re-wearing through a gender perspective, employing gender performativity theory.

Abstract

The phenomenon of beauty privilege refers to the social advantages gained by individuals considered physically attractive, yet it simultaneously imposes burdens and vulnerabilities, particularly on women labeled as “beautiful.” This study aims to explore the paradox of beauty privilege among female university students in Banjarmasin and to identify the forms of social pressure they experience in the process of social interaction. Using a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that beauty not only brings benefits but also entails consequences that create social burdens for women. Several participants reported experiencing competition among peers, expressed either openly or subtly through baseless remarks and even social exclusion. Women perceived as attractive are often attached to negative stereotypes, associating beauty with arrogance, lack of intelligence, or reliance solely on appearance. Furthermore, attractive women are also more vulnerable to subtle forms of violence disguised in less direct ways. This research provides insights into the paradox faced by women regarding beauty and the social pressures resulting from societal expectations of their appearance. Further research may explore how beauty bias operates in digital spaces, particularly the role of social media in creating constant surveillance of women’s bodies and lifestyles.

Abstract

The phenomenon of fatherless has become a challenge in modern families, especially when the father's role is limited by patriarchal values that emphasize only economic functions. This study aims to explore the experiences of millennial Batak Simalungun fathers in carrying out parenting roles, particularly in the context of the Gereja Kristen Protestan Simalungun (GKPS) Banjarmasin. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive phenomenological method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation with eight informants, including six fathers and two mothers. The results show that most fathers still view their role as breadwinners, while emotional closeness with children is considered the mother’s responsibility. However, there is a growing awareness among fathers to become emotionally involved, although this is still limited to simple actions and not yet consistent. Cultural values, childhood experiences, and social pressure are the main barriers to their involvement. This study emphasizes the importance of support from both families and social institutions to encourage a more equal and emotionally present fathering role.
