Abstract

Melinjo (Gnetum gnemon L) in Indonesia is widely used as a food ingredient but melinjo fruit peel is considered waste because there has been no effort to maximize its utilization and there has been no research details of the active compound content in it. Melinjo fruit peels are thought to have the potential to be a source of vitamin C and natural antioxidants that can suppress the activity of free radicals. The study aimed to determine the vitamin C content and antioxidant activity of melinjo fruit peel fraction. It was conducted from August to September 2023 at the Pharmacognosy and Chemistry Laboratory of ITSK RS DR. Soepraoen. Extraction using maceration method followed fractionation. Determination of vitamin C content using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, while determination of antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. The highest vitamin C content was 7.3483 μg/mL in ethanol fraction, followed by ethyl acetate 7.0285 μg/mL and n-hexane 3.6108 μg/mL. Antioxidant activity results with the highest IC50 value of 279.35 μg/mL in ethyl acetate fraction, followed by ethanol 333.98 μg/mL, and n-hexan 4077.31 μg/mL. Solvents with higher polarity can extract vitamin C compounds from simplisia more efficiently and semi-polar solvents can more effectively attract compounds that have antioxidant activity, the type of polarity of a solvent can affect the number and type of compounds to be extracted according to the polarity of compound. It is recommended that further research test the antioxidant active compounds of ethyl acetate fraction and other methods of testing the antioxidant activity melinjo fruit peel.

Abstract

Infectious diseases are disorders that can cause or transmit disease. In 2019, an estimated 13.7 million deaths came from infectious diseases, 5 bacteria that most commonly cause infectious diseases are Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Ciplukan (Physalis angulata L.) is thought to be used as an antibacterial. This study aimed to test the activity of ciplukan leaf fraction against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. This research was conducted in August - October 2023 at 2023 at Pharmacognosy Laboratory and Microbiology Laboratory of ITSK DR. Soepraoen Hospital. This research is an experimental quantitative study with macerated ciplukan leaf samples and then continued fractionation using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol. The antibacterial activity test used disc diffusion method with 50% DMSO negative control and 30 μg chloramphenicol positive control. Antibacterial activity is indicated by the diameter of the clear zone around the disc then the results were analysed with One Way ANOVA. The highest result antibacterial activity of 20% ethanol fraction were 8.4725 mm on Staphylococcus aureus and 11.6225 mm on Escherichia coli. In the n-hexane fraction against Escherichia coli, no antibacterial activity was found. Based on the results, it is known that the ethanol fraction of 20% concentration is the fraction that has the most effective antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Based on One Way ANOVA test in each group of bacteria, significant differences were found. Recommended for future researchers to conduct the same research but using the well diffusion method.

Abstract

Gnetum gnemon L atau sering dikenal dengan nama melinjo merupakan tanaman yang banyak tumbuh di daerah tropis seperti Asia Tenggara. Selain kandungan purin yang tinggi pada biji melinjo, ternyata kulit melinjo yang selama ini kurang dimanfaatkan ternyata memiliki banyak manfaat, diantaranya adalah kandungan polifenol dan flavonoid yang dapat membantu mencegah penyakit asam urat yang sering terjadi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk penetapan kadar metabolit fenol dan flavonoid pada fraksi kulit buah melinjo merah. Diselenggarakan pada bulan Agustus hingga September 2023 di Laboratorium Farmakognosi dan Kimia ITSK RS Dr Soepraoen Malang. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimen laboratorium dengan desain Quasi Experimental Design pada fraksi etanol, fraksi etil asetat dan fraksi n-heksana kulit melinjo. Populasi yang digunakan adalah kulit buah melinjo yang ada di RT 15 RW 03 Desa Bantur Kabupaten Malang Jawa Timur. Sampel penelitian menggunakan kulit buah melinjo yang kondisinya baik dan berwarna merah. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kandungan total flavonoid dalam etanol adalah 96%; etil asetat; fraksi n-heksana sebesar 14,2143 mgQE/g; 13,4707 mg QE/g; 31,1703 mg QE/g sedangkan total fenol dalam etanol 96%; etil asetat; fraksi n-heksana sebesar 10,4904 mgGAE/g; 5,5366 mgGAE/g; 9,6911mgGAE/g. Kesimpulan penelitian adalah kulit melinjo mengandung antioksidan seperti total fenol dan flavonoid yang cukup tinggi, sehingga berpotensi untuk dijadikan sebagai alternatif sumber obat alami untuk menurunkan kadar purin pada penyakit asam urat, dimana biji melinjo memiliki kandungan yang cukup tinggi Direkomendasikan uji penetapan kadar total fenol, flavonoid fraksi etil asetat pada fraksi kulit buah melinjo.

Abstract

Antioxidant agents are substances that repress oxidation responses due to free radicals which can cause harm to unsaturated greasy acids in cell divider films, blood vessel cells and lipid tissue. Dragon fruit has been reported to have high antioxidant activity. The aim of the research was to determine the antioxidants in yellow dragon fruit peel (Selenicereus megalanthus) extract and formulate them as body scrub. Research design of laboratory experiments, the yellow dragon fruit peel was extracted by maceration using 96% ethanol. Antioxidant activity testing was carried out using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). Preparation of the formula using extract concentration variations of 1% and 3%. The evaluation of body scrub preparation include homogeneity, organoleptic, pH and dispersive power. The yellow dragon fruit peel extract showed antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 2.7 ppm (strong antioxidant). The results of the evaluation of the two formulas did not provide a significant difference. Both body scrub preparations were homogeneous, organoleptic evaluation showed a yellowish-white color and does not become rancid, pH range of 7.7-7.8 and dispersive power range of 4.3-4.4 cm. The yellow dragon fruit peel extract has very strong antioxidant activity and can be formulated as a scrub product.

Abstract

Asam folat (vitamin B9) sangat penting selama kehamilan, dan merupakan satu-satunya vitamin yang kebutuhannya selama hamil berlipat dua. Pemberian asam folat pada ibu hamil diketahui untuk mencegah terjadinya cacat tabung saraf terutama tulang belakang tidak menutup sempurna otak janin tidak terbentuk. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif menggunakan metode observasional cross-sectional dengan pengamatan pada bulan Juni 2023. Pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini dilakukan dengan membagikan lembar kuesioner pada responden yang berkenan menjadi responden, sebelum analisis data melakukan data tabulating yaitu dengan memasukan data dalam tabel berdasarkan tujuan penelitian agar memudahkan data tabulating, maka perlu dibuat dummy tabel yaitu tabel kosong yang akan digunakan untuk mengkajikan hasil penelitian. Pengetahuan ibu hamil tentang pentingnya asam folat dalam kehamilan sebagian besar termaksud dalam kategori cukup dengan persentase sebesar 47,82% (33 orang) sisanya tergolong dalam kategori pengetahuan baik sebesar 47,82% (34 orang) dan pengetahuan kurang sebesar 2,90% (2 orang).
