To decrease these impacts, data of wildlife diversity and the distribution needs to be known, so that it can be determined which area can be opened or must be maintained. The research was to determine the diversity and conservation status in PT. Riau Sawitindo Abadi (PT. RSA). The Research was conducted in April 2015. Data was collected by interview, literatur studies and field observation (direct and indirect observation). The results showed that the RSA is a habitat for 78 wildlife species which consists of 52 species of birds (13 species protected), 16 species of mammals (13 species protected) and 10 species of reptiles (5 species protected). Forest area of PT. RSA has an important role as the habitat as well as a corridor for these animals. Keywords: biodiversity, conservation status, habitat, land clearing, wildlife

Abstract

Land cover in the area of PT Sawit Sukses Sejahtera before being converted into oil palm plantations around the year 2009 is generally open areas, shrub and degraded forest. Changes in land cover has been started since 1982 are due to the large fire in 1997 and then repeated the forest ecosystem degradation continued after the reform due to illegal logging and encroachment. Results of field observations indicate that the level of a wild life species richness is relatively low to very low and generally concentrate in areas with relatively good cover. These are as are generally secondary forest or plantation and the land is still owned by the general public. The concession area is an area containing wild life species richness is relatively low when compared to natural forest ecosystems. Then this area is also a habitat for the types of wild life that has been able to adapt to the conditions of this degraded. This region is habitat for 59 species of birds comprising 35 species belonging to 23 families, 16 species of mammals belonging to13 families and 8 species of reptiles belonging to 5 families. Then based on the results of data analysis with rare wild life/protected among the 59 species there that fall into the kind of rare/protected and included three local endangered due to habitat fragmentation and poaching.  Keywords: Ecosystem, Fragmentation, Land cover, Landscape and Species richness of wildlife.

Abstract

Baluran National Park is a Nature Conserved Area which is one of the habitat of javan langur, however, its data is very limited. The objectives of the research is to study population and its key habitat component.   The observation had been done in March-April 2015. Population of javan langur was estimated using Concentration Count Method. The result showed that there were 93 individuals (6 groups) with average size 15,5 ± 5,381. The existence of javan langur in Balanan Resort was supported by biotic factor, including the vegetation for their feeds and cover, such as Walikukun (Schoutenia ovata) dan Pilang (Acacia leucophloea), abiotic factor including altitude, slope, distance from river and distance from disturbance (road and villages).  With regard with the habitat component, there are 4 factors of the characteristic habitat that influence, namely  biotic factors of regeneration vegetations, abiotic factors, physics factors of vegetations,  and biotic factors of climax vegetations. Keyword: abiotic, biotic, habitat, Javan Langur, population
