Abstract

Abstract

Forest harvesting operation has been known as an activity that should be considered as the main cause of soil erosion. Indonesia, the second largest owner of tropical forest, should have a serious consideration to the operation.  Therefore, the study was conducted in logged over area of a natural production forest.  The objectives of the study was to examine level of soil erosion caused by forest harvesting operations and to analyze a strategy to control level of the erosion based on its influencing factors. The study showed that forest harvesting operations caused soil erosion.  Factors that influenced the high level of the erosion were high level of precipitation, lack on planning of forest harvesting operations, no applying treatment of cross drain and cover crop in the new skidding roads, no culture of carefulness in the operations, and low human resource capacity in applying environmentally friendly forest harvesting techniques. Abstract

The ownership transfer and conversion of cultural lands are a long-standing crucial issue in the dynamics of tourism development in Bali, so efforts to build a harmonious orientation among stakeholders in creating sustainable cultural land utilizations are important. For that matter, this research was conducted to study the phenomenon of polarization orientation on cultural land utilization of ecotourism development in Bali Aga. The assessment of cultural land sustainability was conducted using One Score One Indicator Scoring System analysis, with research aspects including ownership, economic, ecological, socio-cultural and spatial aspects. Besides, the polarization of stakeholder orientation was measured through perception, motivation, and preference, then, it was analyzed using Kruskal Wallis and Dunn Tests. The results of One Score One Indicator Scoring System analysis showed that the community has implemented various principles of sustainability in the utilization of cultural land in the Bali Aga region. The sustainable cultural land utilization in the Bali Aga region has not been fully achieved because the stakeholder orientation on various aspects and assessment criteria still experience polarization. Although the polarization orientation is still at the level of polarization scale, it can trigger future problems if the polarization is not well minimized by various stakeholder elements.

The method used to perceptions of visitors and public use in the form of close-ended questionnaire and use Likert scale technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive and chi-square statistical test. Perceptions of respondents earn a score of 5 (somewhat agree) to the type of activities performed and the condition of the area. Respondents gave a score of 3 (disagree) to natural resources exploited. Chi square test for aspects of perception indicates that the value of X2count < X2 tabel at 0,95 < 12,59 it is stated that the answers of the respondents do not have a difference / relationship to a given question. Respondents gave a score of 5 (somewhat agree) to the impact of the economic and ecological impacts arising from use activities. Chi square test for aspects of the impact showed that value of X2count > X2  tabel at 13,83 > 7,81 it is stated that the answers of the respondents have a difference / relationship to a given question. Keywords: impact of the utilization, laut pasir, utilization of area Park.

Abstract

Forest land clearing withoutt appropriate method for oil palm plantations can reduce the diversity of wildlife in that area. To decrease these impacts, data of wildlife diversity and the distribution needs to be known, so that it can be determined which area can be opened or must be maintained. The research was to determine the diversity and conservation status in PT. Riau Sawitindo Abadi (PT. RSA). The Research was conducted in April 2015. Data was collected by interview, literatur studies and field observation (direct and indirect observation). The results showed that the RSA is a habitat for 78 wildlife species which consists of 52 species of birds (13 species protected), 16 species of mammals (13 species protected) and 10 species of reptiles (5 species protected). Forest area of PT. RSA has an important role as the habitat as well as a corridor for these animals. Keywords: biodiversity, conservation status, habitat, land clearing, wildlife
