Abstract

The use of antimicrobial such as antibiotics  against infectious diseases with no control is quite common in Indonesia. This leads to increase morbidity and incidence of drug resistance. Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogenic bacteria, particularly infects the skin. The resistance it difficult to determine which antimicrobials were suitable for therapy. Manukan leaves have an active substance Rhinacanthin can be used as an anti-bacterial. The aim of this study was to determine the inhibition of ethanol extract of manukan leaves (Rhinacanthus nasutus (L) Kurz) against gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus) in vitro with the extract concentration of 15,  30, and 60% as a control. This study was a true experiment through the in vitro test with the Kirby Bauer method. The results showed that the average diameter of the inhibition zone was at an extract concentration of 15, 30, and 60% are 9.97 mm, 10.95mm, and 13.18 mm. The Kruskal-Wallis test results showed a significant difference between the four treatment groups (p= 0.010). The Mann-Whitney test showed significant differences in the inhibition zone between control and  treatment at 15, 30 and 60% (p= 0.037). In conclusion leave ethanol extract of manukan has antimicrobial activitiy in inhibiting staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

Inulin is a type of polysaccharide that is commonly found in nature derived from the dahlia tuber plant, and other plants such as chicory, Jerusalem artichoke, Yaco´n potato and asparagus. Inulin is widely used in industry and pharmaceuticals. In the industrial world, inulin is used as a source of natural sweetener, enhances the taste of food, ferments, and is a low-fiber food source. While in the pharmaceutical world, inulin can be used in several studies, one of which is as an anti-diabetic. This study aims to determine the potential of dahlia tuber inulin as an anti-diabetic. The type of research is a narrative review. Search data using three databases, namely Elsevier (SCOPUS), Pubmed and Google Scholar with a limitation of the last 10 years of articles with the keyword "inulin for diabetes", with the PRISMA method. The results showed that inulin works on glucose absorption in the intestine, lowers blood sugar levels, lowers hemoglobin A1c, increases circulating GLP-1, reduces hyperglycemia, reduces insulin resistance (IR) and hyperlipidemia, reduces oxidative stress, increases insulin and leptin levels, facilitates glucose transport of GLUT4 by activating the PI3K/Akt pathway, is anti-inflammatory, and is involved in the expression of several anti-hyperglycemic genes. The conclusion is that dahlia tuber inulin has an anti-diabetic effect.

Abstract

Dahlia tubers from Berastagi, North Sumatra, are plants that contain carbohydrates and contain high levels of inulin. Inulin is very good as a dietary fiber and has other physiological functions such as lowering blood sugar and blood fat, anticancer, regulating intestinal microbial flora, increasing absorption of minerals and vitamins. Currently, the utilization of dahlia tubers is not optimal in the community and is considered as agricultural waste, therefore it is necessary to manage dahlia tubers in producing inulin extract and study the proximate material, considering that previous studies still obtained varying results. This study aimed to obtain inulin extract and its yield value and to measure the proximate material of red dahlia tuber. The extraction method used is based on the solubility of inulin in water at a temperature of 800 C. And precipitation are carried out with 70% ethanol. Proximate examination of the material consisted of water content using the heating method, ash content using the gravimetric method, fat and crude fiber content using the Soxhlet method, determination of protein content using the Macro Kjedhal method, and carbohydrate content using the proximate method using the carbohydrate percentage formula. The results obtained were 48,25% Inulin Flour yield, the proximate results obtained 80,8% water content, 0,36% ash content, 0,33% total fat content, 1,29% crude fiber content, protein content 1,15%, Carbohydrate content 14.6%. From this study, it can be concluded that dahlia tubers contain high carbohydrates and low-fat content, have crude fiber and protein that can be used as low-calorie foodstuffs.

Abstract

Fungal infections continue to increase, this is because Indonesia is a tropical country that has high temperature and humidity, and many types of fungi are resistant to antibiotic drugs. It is hoped that this situation can be prevented by administering the extract of the leaves of Manukan (Rhinacanthus nasutus (L) Kurz) which has the active ingredient Rhinacanthin. The experimental research method was to test the effectiveness of Manukan (Rhinacanthus nasutus (L) Kurz) leaf extract in inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans fungi with extract concentrations of 15, 30 and 60% respectively. Data were evaluated using the completely randomized design method by comparing static groups (static group comparison) and positive and negative controls, as many as 5 groups. The results showed that the average diameter of the inhibition zone at extract concentrations of 15, 30, and 60% were 10.95 mm, 12.10 mm, and 18.92 mm. Negative control 0.00 and positive control 23.09, so it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Manukan leaves is effective against the inhibition of the growth of the fungus Candida albicans.

Abstract

Hemodialysis is a process of withdrawing a substance in the body and replacing it with substances that are new substitutes for kidney function therapy. The hemodialysis process uses two stages of ultrafiltration, namely non-profiling ultrafiltration and one-profile ultrafiltration. The general objective of the study was to determine the differences between the regulation of Non-Profilling Ultrafiltration and Ultrafiltration Profilling One Against the Reduction of Blood Pressure Intradialysis in the Hemodialysis Installation at Royal Prima General Hospital in 2019. This type of research is quasi-experimental with a control group. The population in this study were patients undergoing hemodialysis at RSU Royal Prima, the number of samples in this study were 55 respondents, with a total sampling. The results of the non-profiling ultrafiltration group with majority blood pressure fell by 46 people (83.6%) minority rose by 9 people (16.4%). The profiling ultrafiltration group with majority blood pressure fell by 34 people (61.8%) normal minority by 2 people (3.6%). The value of sig (2-tailed) = 0.077 and α = 0.05, then 0.077> 0.05 then Ho is accepted Ha is rejected, meaning that there is no difference between withdrawal not in profile and withdrawal using profile one that influences the decrease in blood pressure in the unit hemodialysis Royal Prima Medan Hospital in 2019.
