Abstract

ABSTRACT Sugar industry is among the most developed agricultural industry in Indonesia despite it is highly concentrated. As concentrated market reflects high market power, this article is aimed at measuring the producers’ market power in domestic sugar market. In estimating such a market power, we utilized a dinamic oligopoly model of Bresnahan-Lau in error correction framework. The result showed that in the short run the demand of sugar is inelastic while it is elastic in the long run. On the other hand, the producers’ supply of sugar is elastic both in the short run and in the long run. Secondly, the estimated market power is relatively small indicating that dometic sugar market is competitive either in the short run or in the long run. Lastly, comparing the static and the dynamic approach, we find that in this research the static model is inadequate for economic analysis.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the factors from the ecological and economic aspects that have the most sensitive attributes in influencing the sustainability of dry land management in Jerowaru District. This study uses the Multi Dimensional  Scaling (MDS) analysis of Rapfish. The population in this study were all dry land farmers in Jerowaru District, East Lombok. The number of farmer respondents surveyed was 90 farmers spread over three villages with varied agricultural cropping patterns and topography. The sample unit in this study were individuals, namely dry land farmers. The sample in this research is some farmers who do dry land management. The analysis used is descriptive and MDS Rapfish is supported by qualitative analysis from field observations and in-depth interviews as outlined in a descriptive analysis to determine the characteristics of each respondent while MDS Rapfish is used to determine the most sensitive factors on ecological and economic aspects. The results of the feasibility study were tested with the r2 value which is close to one and the stress value <20% and the results of the Monte Carlo analysis which have a difference of <5% with the MDS results. The results of the MDS analysis show that the sustainability status on the economic aspect is 46.3 and on the ecological aspect it is 39.08. On the economic and ecological aspects in the less sustainable category. Leveraging factors from leveraging analysis to improve the status of sustainability in the economic aspect are the availability of inputs, especially fertilizers, access to marketing and availability of water for farming. While the lever factors in the ecological aspect are the use of biochar, the occurrence of floods / landslides, and vegetation cover. These levers must be a priority for sustainable dryland agricultural management in Jerowaru District, East Lombok.

Abstract

Abstract

This research is intended to evaluate the degree of sustainability of garlic development in East Lombok Regency as well as finding levers for its sustainability. Data collection used interview methods and online questionnaires for 45 farmer respondents spread across Sembalun District as the main garlic producer in West Nusa Tenggara. Sustainability evaluation analysis was carried out using farmers' subjective approaches to four dimensions, namely ecology, economics, social, and policy. The research results concluded that the majority of garlic farmers (78%) stated that garlic development had a low level of sustainability and only 22 percent stated that it was moderately sustainable. The three dimensions with a low sustainability category were the economic dimension (0.40), ecology (0.29), and policy (0.27). Meanwhile, the social dimension was in the medium category with a sustainability index (SI) of 0.55. However, overall, the sustainability index was in the low category (SI= 0.37).

Abstract

The Pade Girang Farmers Group is one of the farmer groups in Landah Village, Praya Timur District, Central Lombok Regency. The types of farming they are engaged in are tobacco and paddy. In addition to these two commodities, Landah Village also has abundant natural resources and the harvest period is not dependent on the season, namely bananas. However, partners do not have the skills to process the existing local potential, namely bananas. So this activity aims to provide skills in the form of training in processing banana fruit innovation into banana cake in order to increase the economic value of existing resources. From the results of the community service, it was concluded that: (1) The response of the female members of the Pade Girang farmer group to the material that had been provided showed positive things; (2) Partners were able to produce banana cake independently so that it could have economic value and could increase the income of farming families apart from the agricultural sector; (3) There was a significant increase in the level of knowledge and skills of the female members of the Pade Girang farmer group regarding processed banana fruit products.
