Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi tentang pendidikan karakter berbasis nilai filosofi Tongkonan yang berlaku di SD Kristen Makale 1 di Tana Toraja. Metode yang di gunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh bahwa (1) pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter pada era new normal dilaksanakan secara online dan tatap muka yang dibagi dalam 2 sesi. (2) Terdapat pendidikan karakter berbasis filosofi Tongkonan yaitu karakter religius, jujur, tekun, disiplin, peduli, karapasan, kerja keras, kasianggaran, kasiuluran. Pendidikan karakter dilaksanakan melalui morning devision dan ibadah rutin secara virtual. Melakukan tongkon bagi yang berduka kemudian adanya bentuk kepedulian melalui carring Piggy Bank dan  Penanaman karakter khusus  yang di berikan pada siswa melalui petua. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa di sekolah tersebut menerapkan pendidikan karakter yang berbasis nilai-nilai filosofi Tongkonan yang terdapat dalam kearifan lokal Toraja. Sehingga pentingnya pendidikan karakter pada era new normal di sekolah dasar yang dapat dikaitkan  dengan budaya lokal.

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out (i) the pronunciation errors and (ii) the causalfactors of pronunciation errors made by the students of UKI Toraja as Torajan speakersof English. The researcher employed a descriptive qualitative method. The subjectswere ten students and taken by using random purposive sampling. Data were takenfrom the recording of students’ pronunciation when telling a chosen topic andinterview, then analyzing by error analysis. The result showed that, (i) Errors inconsonants were sounds [f, v, ð, ?, z, ?, ?, t?,] omission medial [j], omission of final[t,d,k]. Then errors in vowels were sound [i:,?,e,æ,?,??,??,?:,??,e?]. (ii) the causal factorsof making pronunciation errors were language transfer, overgeneralization, ignoranceof rule restrictions, incomplete in applying rules, and false concept hypothesized;modality; age; and universal hierarchy of difficulty. Then, additional data frominterview showed that the students made pronunciation errors caused by the lack ofopportunity to use English in their daily lives, the neglect of the pronunciation’simportance, and the lack of practice in imitating the kind of English sounds.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the motivation in learning English by tenth grade students at SMK N 1 Tana Toraja. To achieve the objective of the study, the writer conducted quantitative descriptive method. The participant of the research was tenth grade students of SMK N 1 Tana Toraja academic year 2017/2018. This research employed a random sampling technique. The data was obtained from questionnaire was to find out the motivation of the tenth grade students in learning English at SMK N 1 Tana Toraja. The result of this research showed that the data analysis through questionnaire was used to find out the motivation in learning English of tenth grade students at SMK N 1 Tana Toraja. Based on the result of the questionnaire, the writer found that were four intrinsic motivation in learning English such us; important, interest, increase our knowledge and self-confidence, challenge and four extrinsic motivation in learning English such us; parents or the other people, get reward, place, have many friends from another countries. The students more chose intrinsic motivation.

Abstract

Tongkonan is the life of the Toraja people because that's where all their values ??and aesthetics are. In it there are not only functions as residential houses but there are social functions and power, traditional and cultural values, and religious values. But the passage of time and the development of the modern era as well as the influence of culture from the outside to make a shift and change the function and value of the actual Tongkonan so much to cause conflicts in the family and community. Many perspectives from the Toraja generation emerge. This study aims to identify and describe how the perspective of the older generation and young generation of Toraja on the function and value of Tongkonan. Researchers chose respondents who live in Toraja by snowball. The researcher uses the semi-structured interview as an instrument to obtain data and a qualitative description method in analyzing data. The results showed that the older generation emphasized the view that Tongkonan is a form of parents of one descendant who has a customary life structure that must be followed according to established rules so that if there is a problem returning to pay attention to the rules, and because Tongkonan is the form of parents, the child must dutiful to parents. In addition, the younger generation views Tongkonan as a physical form of a shared house in which there is economic value. There is no significant perspective difference between the two generations on the function and value of tongkonan, both agree and realize the importance of preserving the value and function of the tongkonan. But in general the younger generation is less interested and do not have time to hear the stories of parents / grandparents and so do not have a deep understanding.

Abstract

Tujuan dalam penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengidentifikasi pendidikan karakter berbasis nilai filosofi tongkonan yang terdapat di SDN 2 Rantepao yang terletak di Toraja Utara. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, wawancara serta dokumentasi. Teknik yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data menggunakan model Miles and Huberman yaitu Pengumpulan data data reduction, data display, dan conclusion drawing/verification. Lokasi penelitian yang dipilih yaitu SDN 2 Rantepao yang terletak di Toraja Utara. Hasil yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini adalah pendidikan karakter di SDN 2 Rantepao dilaksanakan secara tatap muka persesi maupun secara online. nilai Karapasan (Perdamaian dan kerukunan) dalam pembelajaran pada era new normal yaitu yang berkaitan dengan perdamaian dan kerukunan yang selalu dilakukan oleh siswa. nilai Kasianggaran seperti mengucapkan kata tabe’ yang merupakan ciri khas di SDN 2 Rantepao yang dilakukan oleh siswa maupun guru. Nilai kasiuluran dilaksanakan melalui kegiatan yang dinamakan pa’wai mata, kegiatan Tongkon maupun kegiatan ma’ karamman. Penanaman pendidikan karakter dapat dikaitkan dengan nilai-nilai budaya lokal. Sehingga pentingnya karakter berbasis budaya lokal seperti nilai-nilai yang terdapat dalam Tongkonan.

Abstract

Education is an effort to educate the nation's life and also to improve the quality of human life through a learning process for students to understand, understand and be more critical in thinking, including learning English. For this reason, the role and position of the teacher is very strategic in national development, especially in the field education. During the Covid-19 pandemic, online learning demanded teacher creativity in designing and implementing education, which was needed so that online learning could run well. The purpose of this study is to find out how creative teachers are in learning English during the Covid-19 pandemic. Data were obtained from 2 English teachers at Pelita Bangsa Catholic Middle School. The instrument questions in the interview were prepared with reference to the 5 main topics of the creative teacher category according to Abedini & Broujeni (2016), namely lesson presentation, class management/management, assignments, teacher-student interaction, and teacher character. The creativity of teachers in learning English at SMP Katolik Pelita Bangsaduring the Covid-19 pandemic was carried out online, both non-interactive online and interactive online. During non-interactive learning through learning videos. The teacher makes learning videos according to the predetermined lesson plans and then uploads them on his YouTube channel. Presentation of learning material using videos made with their own creations which after being uploaded to YouTube then the video link is sent to students. The video already contains material explanations and examples as well as exercises and assignments that students must do. During non-interactive learning through Youtube, e-learning, and Google Classroom, then during interactive learning through Zoom meetings. Everything went well because it was supported by the character of the teacher who was disciplined, punctual, creative and always motivated his students.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out What are the influence of ELLBOS in speaking anxiety at the eleventh-grade student of SMA Kristen Rantepao. In carrying out this study, researcher used quantitative methods. The subjects of this study were 24 students grade 11 students of Rantepao Christian High School. Data from this study was collected by using a questionnaire. After the data was collected the researcher then used the SPSS 26 program to analyze. The results of this study show that ELLBOS has an influence on students' speech anxiety, especially on the 3 types of speaking anxiety described in this study. Where in communication apprehension before treatment the average achieved by students only reached 3.22. After the treatment is given, the median score that students achieve is 4.00. In test-anxiety, before doing treatment, the average student only reached 2.98. Then after the researcher gave a treatment the normal number of students reached 4.00. Then fear of negative evaluation The average pre-test value only reached 3.14 before the treatment was given. After the treatment was given, the mean number of students reached 4,026. Where from all types of anxiety can be seen that students become more communicating and very enthusiastic. Students also do not feel afraid to make mistakes when learning is carried out. So it can be concluded that ELLBOS has an influence in students' speaking anxiety

Abstract

Toraja is one of the tribes in Indonesia that gets a legacy of carving motifs as a means of teaching for posterity of their ancestors. This research aimed to find the types of carving motifs used in the decoration of traditional wedding events in Toraja. This research used qualitative research methods of ethnographic type and purpossive sampling techniques. The results of this study found at least fifteen types of carving motifs that have been used in decorations for traditional wedding events, Rampanan Kapa’, by Torajan. The carving motifs are Pa'tukku pare, Pa' lolo tabang, Pa' bungkang danau, Pa' tangke lumu', Pa' erong, Pa' Bombo wai, pa' bare' allo, Pa' batang lau, Pa' kapu' baka, Passungkalla', Passekong kandaure, Pa' tedong, Pa' bulu londong, Passora, and Pa' poya mundan. The fifteen carving motifs contain prayers and hopes from all those who attended the Kapa' Rampanan event for both brides.

Abstract

This research aims to find out what types of Toraja local wisdom topics are needed by elementary school students in North Toraja in local content English language teaching materials. This research was conducted in four North Toraja elementary schools, namely SDN 6 Rantepao , SDN 2 Tikala, SDN 7 Tikala and SDN 7 Sesean. The samples from this study were all fourth graders and English teachers who were selected using a total sampling technique. It consisted of 67 students and there were 4 English teachers. The instrument for this research is a questionnaire. The results of this research show that there are 1o local wisdoms topic that need to be included in English teaching materials as Public Speaking subjects, namely: Tourism object, Thanks giving, Funeral ceremony, traditional food, Traditional drink, clothing, social Values, Folklore, arts, Fairytale.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out what the challenges and opportunities are for English teachers using the Merdeka Mengajar Platform. The background of this research is that, as a new platform, the Merdeka Mengajar Platform requires quick adaptation from teachers, but the problem is that currently in the Merdeka Mengajar Platform there are still many teachers who are confused about implementing the Merdeka Mengajar Platform. In this research, the researcher used a qualitative approach and collected data through interviews and observation. Interview data was obtained from 3 English teachers. The results of this research are based on the findings that the use of the Merdeka Mengajar Platform really helps English teachers in creating creative modules and teaching methods in teaching English,  becoming content creators or English tutors because in PMM there are lots of inspirational videos, increase teacher competency and have more freedom in teaching students based on their needs and interests. Apart from that, there are also opportunities in using PMM, there are also challenges such as technical challenges no training routine, time management, and unstable internet connection, the teaching module in PMM is not yet available so that the  completeness and implementation of PMM features is still low. In the research, it was also found several ways English teachers overcome challenges and how they maximize opportunities in using PMM.
