Abstract

The thermoelectric module is a device that works by using the Peltier effect when electrical power supplied on it. In this study, the thermoelectric module is applied as thermoelectric cooler (TEC) using air cooling heat sink where cooling box capacity is 22 L. This paper experimentally investigates the thermal performance of thermoelectric cooler with a variation on input power and cooling load. The investigation has been conducted by three variations on input power (50.5W, 72.72W and 113.64W) and by two variations of the cooling load using mineral water (1440 mL and 2880 mL) with input power 113.64W. The box temperature achieved at input power 50.5W, 72.72W and 113.64W are 19.98oC, 19.77oC and 18.52oC, respectively. While at the cooling load of 1440 mL and 2880 mL, the temperature achieved in the box are 22.45oC and 23.32oC, respectively. The test results showed that in variation on the input power from low to high, the temperature in box becomes lower on high input power and causes the lower of COP, this is because more energy could be absorbed on high input power. In the cooling load variation, the greater the cooling load given in cooling box, then the longer the box  temperature  stability can be achieved because of more energy needed for decreasing the temperature of cooling box.

Abstract

Modul thermoelectric cooling (TEC) adalah salah satu jenis pompa kalor berbentuk padatan (solid-state) yang membutuhkan penukar kalor untuk membuang kalor sebagai efek Peltier. Termoelektrik dapat memanaskan dan mendinginkan hanya dengan membalikkan polaritas, yang mengubah arah perpindahan kalor. Sisi yang dingin dapat digunakan sebagai pendingin dan sisi yang panas dapat digunakan sebagai pemanas. Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang kotak pendingin dan pemanas yang memanfaatkan modul termoelektrik sebagai sumber kalornya dengan menentukan daya yang dibutuhkan dan pemilihan rancangan terbaik. Tahapan pemilihan rancangan kotak pendingin dan pemanas (cool and hot box) adalah melakukan analisa beban kalor, perbandingan massa, perbandingan daya listrik, dan jumlah modul TEC yang digunakan, untuk menentukan desain optimum kotak pendingin dan pemanas. Hasil rancangan diperoleh ruang kotak pendingin dan pemanas dengan dimensi: 0,26 m x 0,20 m x 0.15 m dengan ketebalan polyurethane foam 25,7 mm sebagai isolator kotak  pendingin, dan ketebalan 15,3 mm untuk isolator box pemanas. Daya yang dibutuhkan untuk mendinginkan minuman selama 30 menit dengan target temperatur ruang pendingin 15 ℃ adalah sebesar 86,07 W

Abstract

This study aims to design and manufacture a portable screw turbine of pico hydro power plant for road lighting in rural area. The portable screw turbine has the specifications of a turbine diameter of 23 cm, length of 1 m, number of threads of 5, shaft diameter of 6 cm and pitch of 22 cm. This screw turbine was tested by varying several turbine tilts angles, namely 15°, 30°, 45° and 60° with a flow rate used of 0.0054 m3/s. In field test was carried out at an angle of 30° with a flow rate of 0.125 m3/s. The test results show the angle of inclination of turbine affects the mechanical performance. Testing the 45° angle produced a mechanical power of 18.857 Watts with an efficiency of 35.669%. In the field testing was produced a generator power of 4 Watts. This screw turbine is expected to be another alternative as a pico-hydro scale power plant.

Abstract

Heat energy is energy that can be easily found in our daily lives, starting from the heat provided by nature, namely from the sun's heat, heat from chemical reactions, and heat generated by mechanical friction. If this heat energy can be converted into electrical energy, of course it will be able to help meet the increasing energy needs. Thermoelectric generator is a technology that can convert heat energy into electrical energy based on the seebeck effect. This research was carried out by utilizing the absorption of solar radiation heat on a concrete road with class III cast concrete type with K 450 as a thermoelectric generator placed on a medium with dimensions (550 x 300 x 100) mm. The research used 3 modules of thermoelectric generator type SP 1848 arranged in series, a heat sink filled with water and a copper plate in the form of I as an absorbent plate and heat transfer from concrete to TEG. The results of the tests conducted show that the maximum power generated in the concrete produces a power of 14.88 mW with a maximum solar radiation intensity of 1107 W/m2 and the largest temperature difference is 6.7 °C. By looking at the power generated continuously, this research allows it to be developed as an alternative energy.

Abstract

One of the main obstacles for developers and users of photovoltaic (PV) modules is that the module temperature is too high due to high solar radiation and a higher ambient temperature, which reduces PV efficiency. A photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) system is a technique developed for absorbing heat, that combines PV with a solar thermal collector (STC). In this research, heat pipes are used as the heat transfer medium. This paper aims to design a PV/T system for water heating and examines the thermal performance and water temperature that can be achieved by PV/T. In designing PV/T, the method used is to estimate the intensity of solar radiation and determine the size of the thermal collector, thermal insulation, type of working fluid, and heat pipe filling ratio. The PV/T thermal performance is also tested after the system design has been built. The design parameters that have been obtained are the PV area of 0.67 m2 and the volume of heated water of 20 liters. This design proposes water as the working fluid of the heat pipe with a filling ratio of 10%. The system performance indicates that PV/T could heat the water to 50.9 °C with energy absorbed by the water of 1.85 MJ, and the maximum thermal efficiency of PV/T is 27.14%. The results show that PV/T has a very promising future in terms of its ability to use heat energy and can be further developed for future research so that it can encourage people to use environmentally friendly renewable energy

Abstract

Efforts to increase sales of car/motorcycle polish products have been carried out by the Graphene Guard business incubator. This product is a downstream research result of lecturer/researcher at the Faculty of Engineering, Riau University. As a new product and not yet known to the public, special strategies are needed to increase sales. In the initial stage, an online and offline sales strategy was carried out, but apparently it did not show encouraging results even though promotions had been carried out. It was felt that a reseller strategy needed to be implemented. The reseller strategy, especially offline resellers, was addressed to the students at Riau University with attractive prices and bonuses. This strategy generated significant sales in a relatively short time. The phenomenon where offline reseller sales results were very different from conventional sales strategies reflecting the changes in consumer behavior and increasingly complex market dynamics. Reseller marketing strategies, especially when carried out by individuals or small groups, often conveyed a strong sense of personalization and trust. In this strategy, focus was given to product advantages, customer testimonials, and real interactions. This created high levels of trust in consumers, and allowed them to feel confident in purchasing the product. This strategy can be a valuable experience for marketing of new products.

Abstract

Experiments were carried out to determine the performance of a direct expansion solar assisted heat pump water heater (DX-SAHPWH) which mainly consists of an evaporator panel with a surface area of ​​0.23 m2, a rotary compressor with an input power of 122.5 W, an insulated water tank that has been wrapped around a condenser with a diameter of 0.024 m and a length of 15 m and a capillary tube with a diameter of 0.001 m and a length of 1.61 m. Tests were carried out in open spaces, enclosed spaces and air-conditioned rooms exposed to direct sunlight. The results of this test are that the highest coefficient of performance (COP) on the DX-SAHPWH system is obtained at 1,25 and the smallest COP is obtained at 0.60. The higher intensity of solar radiation has a positive effect on the performance of the DX-SAHPWH system, which results in the heat transfer rate at water (Q wm) increases, the time required for heating is faster, and the COP of the DX-SAHPWH system increases.

Abstract

Buluhcina is one of the villages in Siak Hulu, Kampar District, Riau Province. The natural wealth potential in Buluhcina includes: (1) several villagers develop cage fish cultivation; (2) the river along the village as a natural potential has lots of fish needed by the community; and (3) lakes and swamps that have the potential to be developed for new jobs. From the community service activities in Buluhcina, it was concluded that: (1) this fish feed molding machine is capable of producing fish feed, the feeds is produced from the machine must be dried by conventional drying (the heat from the sun). (2) Running test for the production of fish feeds that have been made are used as samples of fish feed developed in Buluhcina. Operational training activities for produce the alternative fish feed have been successfully carried out in Buluhcina.

Abstract

The global energy shortage, especially in developing countries, drives the search for alternative energy sources such as solar power, which is one of the cleanest energy sources. This research discusses the comparison of efficiency between solar PV fixed, single-axis solar trackers, and dual-axis solar trackers. The method used is a survey of the literature of multiple studies that only analyzes the efficiency of solar PV using different tracking devices. The efficiency data is normalized based on location factors and light intensity for a fair comparison. The results show that fixed solar panels are stationary and simple, serving as a baseline with 100 % efficiency. Single-axis panels track the sun horizontally, boosting efficiency by 25.6 % but with moderate complexity due to motors and controls. Dual-axis panels track the sun both horizontally and vertically, increasing efficiency by up to 50 % but with the highest complexity due to more moving parts and dual-axis control systems.

Abstract

Sistem Gerbang otomatis, atau autogate, digunakan untuk memudahkan proses pembukaan dan penutupan Gerbang. Namun, dalam penggunaannya, muncul beberapa tantangan. Salah satunya adalah keterbatasan jarak akses pada sistem kendali autogate yang hanya menggunakan remote RF. Selain itu, sistem keamanan saat Gerbang menutup masih memiliki kelemahan, yaitu risiko potensial Gerbang menabrak objek yang berada di jalurnya. Untuk mengatasi tantangan-tantangan tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang sistem pengendali Gerbang geser otomatis yang mengadopsi PLC sebagai pengontrol utama. Sistem ini juga akan menambahkan akses kontrol melalui smartphone berbasiskan android yang terhubung ke jaringan internet dengan bantuan modul ESP32 serta menggunakan basis data dari Firebase. Selain itu, sensor photobeam akan dimasukkan sebagai elemen pendeteksi objek yang berada di lintasan Gerbang sebagai system pengamannya. Dari Hasil implementasi dan analisis yang telah dilakukan, alat ini berhasil beroperasi sesuai dengan desainnya. Penggunaan smartphone sebagai kendali mampu mengatasi keterbatasan jarak akses, dengan waktu respons sekitar 0,5 hingga 3 detik, bergantung pada kualitas jaringan internet. Sensor photobeam juga berhasil mendeteksi objek yang berada di lintasan Gerbang, sehingga sistem kendali dapat menghentikan dan membuka Gerbang secara otomatis ketika objek terdeteksi saat Gerbang sedang menutup.
