Abstract

Solar cell is an active element that converts light energy into electrical energy by photovoltaic effect. Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC)is the into third generation that is solar cells. The aims of this study is to determine the effect of TiO2 layer thickness and the concentration of ethanol to the DSSC voltage. The study began by making a dye solution of 20 grams of Senggani dissolved in methanol, acetic acid and distilled water. FTO glass coating was then performedusing TiO2 that was dissolved in ethanol, then deposited by spin coating and sintering method using furnace. The next step was the manufacture of electrolytic solution, a carbon electrode manufacture and assembly of DSSC. The test results using a UV-Vis absorbance showed that the dye solution containing anthocyanin at 520 nm absorption. DSSC was achieved the higher voltage due the thickness of TiO2. The best result (0.9524 Volt / cm2) by variation of TiO2thickness (≈ 387 m) with ethanol absolute (without dilution). XRD test showed that TiO2 anatase was anatase phase. The morphology test show that the coating of TiO2 with ethanolsolvent have a particles size than coating with distilled water solvent. The adhesion test showed the adhesion coating on the FTO glass was at good qualifications 2B.Keywords: DSSC, FTO glass, TiO2 coating thickness, TiO2

Abstract

Conventional plastics are still often used today derived from synthetic polymer materials that are difficult to be recycled and degraded by microorganisms. Bioplastic is one of solution to this problem. One of the materials that have the potential to be used as raw material is cassava because it has a high starch content. However, starch has a weakness that is still low mechanical properties. The general purpose of this research is to study the effect of adding graphene oxide and stirring time to mechanical properties, and biodegradation of cassava starch based bioplastic. Bioplastic was synthesized by intercalation method with variation of graphene oxide concentration (5% v / v and 15% v / v) and stirring time variation (30 minute and 60 minute). The results of the analysis showed that the treatment with the addition of filler graphene oxide and the variation of stirring time contributed to the resulting bioplastic mechanical properties. Bioplastic with the best characteristic was obtained by adding 15% graphene oxide and 60 minutes stirring time with tensile strength 3,92 Mpa, elongation 13,216%, modulus young 29,66 Mpa with water resistance 27,42% and within 1 week degraded 50 , 83%.Keywords: Bioplastic, glycerol, graphene oxide, Cassava Starch, plasticizer

Abstract

Chicken eggshells CaO based catalyst with the addition of activated carbon and sodium hydroxide (CaO-NaO/C) has been successfully synthesized for production of biodiesel from palm oil off-grade. The catalyst was characterized by X-Ray Diffraction analysis (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and basic strength while the characterization of biodieselwas by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The catalyst was synthesized by calcining the chicken eggshell as source of CaCO3 at the calcination temperature of 900 ˚C for 3 hours. The CaO was then supported by activated carbon as catalyst buffer andimpregnated with 30% NaOH solution. The catalyst with the highest catalytic activity was obtained at calcination temperature of 500 ˚C and mass ratio of CaO:C at 6:4. The yield of biodiesel amounted to 79.08% were obtained by transesterification process with the molarratio of oil:methanol 1:10, catalyst concentration of 1%-b oil and reaction temperature of 65 ˚C for 3 hours. The CaO, Na2CO3, Ca(OH)2 and CaCO3 were found in the catalyst through the (XRD) while the basic strength of the catalyst H_ was > 9,3 determined by using Hammett Indicator phenolphthalein. The specific surface area of the catalyst obtainedthrough analysis by the (BET) method was 18.880 m2/g. Characteristics of biodiesel such as density, kinematic viscosity, acid number, and flash point have matched with the standard for biodiesel specification. Some methyl esters formed such as methyl palmitate and methyloleate were found in biodiesel through analysis of (GC-MS).Keywords : Biodiesel, catalysts, calcium oxide, activated carbon, transesterification

Abstract

Eggshell waste was modified by calcination, hydration and dehydration methods. Which were impregnated with activated carbon and NaOH made to be used as heterogeneous base catalysts used off grade palm oil transesterification reactions.The catalyst with the highest activity on production of biodiesel is obtained in the catalyst prepared by calcination temperature of 800 °C and catalyst ratio mass of 7:3 with transesterification reaction conditions of a molar ratio of methanol/oil 6:1, catalyst dosage of 6% by weight, temperature of 70 °C for 3 hours having yield biodiesel results reached 79,08%.Keyword: activated carbon, biodiesel, calcium oxide, catalysts, transesterification.

Abstract

Geopolimer is a synthesis of organic polymers with high concentrated alkaline activator reacting with SiO2 and Al2O3 in fly ash. Geopolimer can reduce the use of OPC and reducing solid waste (fly ash) the result of burning oil palm shells in the industry’s oleokimia at Riau Province. This research aims to make the fly ash-based factory geopolimer palm oil is obtained from PT. Bangun Tenera Riau (PT. BTR) with the addition of graphene as a fillerand determine the influence of the concentration of graphene and graphene weight ratio against the compressive strength, porosity, and morphological properties of geopolimer. The making of geopolimer include the preparation of fly ash and sand and then continued with the creation of alkaline activator (KOH + sodium silicate) with variation concentration ofgraphene 10 mg/ml, 20 mg/ml, 30 mg/ml, as well as the weight ratio of graphene 0 %wt, 0.1 %wt, 0.4 %wt, and 0.7 %wt. Raman Spectroscopy Analysis of graphene shows graphene produced during the process turbulance assisted shear exfoliation (TASE) is a few layer graphene (FLG). XRD analysis showed the highest intensity of graphene on geopolimer is1849.26 cts on 25.4112 °. The SEM analysis showed the increasing graphene, closer the structure of geopolymer. The value of compressive strength in addition concentrations of graphene 30 mg/ml and weight ratio of graphene 0.7 wt% i.e. 10.8 MPa with an increasingcompressive strength 74.19%. The value of the lowest porosity on the concentration of graphene 30 mg/ml and weight ratio of graphene 0.7% i.e. 5.92%.Keywords : fly ash, geopolimer, graphene, OPC, TASE

Abstract

Solar Selective Absorber (SSA) is a thin film at the coating surface of the collector that absorbs solar radiation selectively and convert it into maximum heat energy. Solar selective absorber can be synthesized using sol-gel dip-coating method. The purpose of research is to synthesize the thin film of copper oxide solar selective absorber from copper nitrate precursor using sol-gel dip coating methode, to know the influence dipping-drying cycle variation to absorptance value. Pieces of aluminum with size 2x4x0.5cm were cleaned using a solution of phosphoric acid 10% at temperature 50oC for 10 minutes. Sol precursor was prepared by disolved copper nitrate trihidrate 0,4M and propio nic acid in ethanol. The sol prekursor was stirred for 2 hours at room temperature. The coating was synthesized by varying the number of dipping-drying cycles 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 6x, 8x and 10x, then annealed at temperature 550 ºC for 1 hour. Reflektance spectra in the area of UV-Vis-NIR show that increased cycles of dip-coating increase the value of absorptance (α). The results showed that the highest absorptance value found in coatings which was synthesized using copper oxyde 0.4M at 10x cycles with absorptance (α) = 74.32%.Keywords : dip-coating, energy, film, solar selective absorber, sol-gel

Abstract

This paper reports an application of a series resonance converter as a high voltage generator to drive a surface barrier discharge with a magnetic field. The high voltage was about 5 kV with the frequency of 25 kHz. It was connected to circular aluminum plates as the anode electrode and a rectangular aluminum plate as the cathode electrode. These electrodes were separated by a glass dielectric as the barrier. The experiment result indicated that the discharge current with magnetic field was lower than without magnetic field. The plasma on the surface barrier with magnetic field was more luminous than without magnetic field. It also indicated that the area of Lissajous diagram for the surface barrier discharge with magnetic field was slightly decreased than without magnetic field. It could be concluded that the magnetic field affects the plasma progress on the surface barrier. Molecular dynamic (MD) could be used in understanding the ionization process of air molecules. The ionization energies for CO2, N2, and O2 were 0.0502 kcal/mol, 0.0526 kcal/mol and 0.430 kcal/mol, respectively in 1,000 seconds. The highest ionization energy was O2.

Abstract

This research aims to study the effects of graphene oxide addition and curing temperature toward the compressive strength of Palm Oil Fly Ash (POFA) based geopolymer. Matrixes were prepared by mixing treated palm oil fly ash and fine aggregate and continued by preparing alkali activator of 10 M sodium hydroxide and 33,3 mL sodium silicate also different concentration of graphene oxide (0 mg/mL, 1 mg/mL and 3 mg/mL) were mixed for 1 hour. Solid and liquid were mixed together with ratio 0,39 and placed them in geopolymer mortar mold (50 mm x 50 mm x 50 mm) which were cured at room temperature for 1 hour and heated them in oven for 24 hours at different temperature (40oC, 60oC and 80oC). The highest compressive strength was 11.4MPa yielded by adding 3mg/mL of graphene oxide at 80oC.Keywords: compressive strength, curing temperature, geopolymer, graphene oxide, palm oil fly ash

Abstract

Utilization of stainless steel 316L as bone implant could be done by coating hydroxyapatite on it’s surface, to obtain a material with good biocompatibility and mechanical strength. The purpose of this research is to coating hydroxyapatite on stainless steel 316L using starch asbinder and understand the influence of binder ratio and stirring time on characters of coating hydroxyapatite deposited by dip coating method. Stainless steel was cut into size 2×3cm2 and sterilized with acetone. The substrat then dipped into solution which consist of 10 gram hydroxyapatite, 20 gram aquadest and starch 1; 1,25 and 1,5 gram. The substrat wasdried at 110oC for 30 minutes and then sintered at 800oC for 1 hour. The result of SEM analysis showed that at 16 and 20 hour stirring time the coating thickness increased from 35μm to 77 μm. At 24 hour stirring time the obtained thickness was decrease to 60 μm. The coating thickness decreased with binder ratio, at binder ratio addition the thickness obtainedwas 60 μm, 58 μm and 35 μm, respectively. The shear strength was increase with binder ratio. While increasing stirring time decreased the shear strength. The highest shear strength obtained is 3,07 MPa. The layer that deposited on the substrat is contain 99,4% hydroxyapatite based on XRD analysis result.Keywords : Binder, Dip Coating, Hydroxyapatite, Stainless Steel.

Abstract

Latasir or a thin layer of asphalt sand is a pavement surface covering consisting of fine aggregates or sand or a mixture of both hard and asphalt mixed, stretched and compacted under certain conditions. Itis often used on the streets as light as local roads or road environment, in order to restrain the rate of water so as not to enter into pores in it. One of the efforts made to improve the quality of asphalt pavementby modifying the mixture material with the addition of certain additives. Graphene is thought to be able to become another asphalt addictive. Several previous studies used Grpahene in various reinforcementstructures. The purpose of this study was to determine the value of Marshall characteristics in the mixtureof Latasir A using graphene addictive. Variation made in this study were 0% (without mixture), 2%, 2.5%, and 3% for the presentation value of asphalt density as a comparison of the value of stability, flow, VMA, VIM, VFA and MQ. The results of this study indicate that the addition of graphene as an addictive to the asphalt mixture tends to increase the value of stability, the value of melt (flow) so that it becomesmore elastic because it is above the specification limit, and not too much increase in the value of the VIM, VMA, VFA, and Marshall Quotient (MQ) value. For the best Marshall Characteristics, the addition ofgraphene is 3% and the optimum asphalt content (KAO) is 8,50% with a stability value of 580 kg, flow value of 4.10%, VIM 4.50%, VFA 79.00%, VMA 22.30% and MQ 140.00 Kg / mm.Keywords: graphene, additives, Latasir, Marshall Characteristics
