Abstract

This article discusses the strategic role of the younger generation in initiating and managing non-formal schools as a tangible form of social empowerment in the midst of limited access to formal education. Through a descriptive qualitative approach, this study reveals various alternative education initiatives driven by young people in urban and rural areas, such as Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and East Flores. This non-formal school is not only a learning space, but also a vehicle for character building, strengthening community values, and resistance to structural injustice. The findings show that the involvement of young people in non-formal education is driven by a spirit of solidarity, social sensitivity, and local innovation based on community assets. However, the movement still faces challenges in terms of sustainability, legality, and policy support. Therefore, synergy is needed between the state, society, and the private sector to recognize and support the work of the young generation in alternative education as part of sustainable social development.

Abstract

This study aimed to bridge the gap between writing for healing and Islamic spirituality by exploring the experiences of four Muslim students in MTs Terpadu Ar-Roihan, Lawang Malang. The study utilized a case study approach to analyse the expressive writing content of the participants, focusing on the integration of Quranic values and teachings. The participants, aged 13 to 15, were selected based on their emotional difficulties and behavioural problems with five-session treatment plan for participants in the writing intervention (the principles and guidance found in the Quranic scriptures). The findings revealed that the participants demonstrated a deep connection to Allah and a strong awareness of the creation and destiny of life. Their writings reflected their hopes, prayers, and apologies, seeking guidance and forgiveness to others. The expressive writing also exposed their emotional expressions, with some participants expressing sadness, self-blame, frustration, and anger. The study concludes that there is a meaningful connection between writing for healing and Islamic spirituality

Abstract

In today's digital world, cyberbullying has become a severe issue, especially among teenagers, which can negatively impact their mental health and identity. This study explores the application of fiqh principles in interpreting ecological verses in Tafsir Marah Labid by Imam Nawawi al-Bantani. The methodology used is a qualitative approach with content analysis, focusing on identifying and interpreting fiqh principles in an environmental context. The results show that Imam Nawawi al-Bantani indirectly applies fiqh principles such as “la darara wa la dirar” and “al-masyaqqah tajlibu al-taysir” in explaining environmental verses. This interpretation highlights the importance of maintaining ecological balance as a human responsibility as a caliph. The fiqh approach in Tafsir Marah Labid is highly relevant to current environmental conservation efforts and the importance of Islamic values education for ecological preservation among the younger Muslims.

Abstract

Abstract

The problem facing contemporary epistemology is the dichotomy between revelation, reason, and the senses. The West prioritizes reason and senses, ignoring revelation, causing civilization to deviate from its nature. Eastern Islam puts forward revelation that ignores reason and senses so that it cannot solve contemporary problems because its knowledge is not built on natural and social laws. This paper is intended to answer this epistemological problem by using a philosophical method with a library research approach. From this discussion, it was found that there are three tools for producing knowledge according to the perspective of the Qur'an, namely, revelation, reason, and the senses. Revelation is a tool to know the unseen while reason and senses are tools to produce natural and social domains. All of these tools are combined and integrated into obtaining the expected knowledge.

Abstract

The research examines the intellectual journey of Hasan al-Turabi regarding gender and the role of women in Islam. Al-Turabi, an influential Muslim scholar, demonstrates the evolution of his perspectives across several dimensions. This study analyzes Al-Turabi's progressive views on women's role and political participation and their impact on Sudan's Islamic women's movement. However, there is controversy concerning his opinions on leadership, female testimony in Islamic law, and polygamy. This research also illustrates how interpretations of religious teachings shape perceptions of gender equality and the role of religion in initiating social change. Al-Turabi encourages the Muslim community to reexamine sacred texts within the context of the modern era, seeking egalitarian values that align with the spirit of Islam. This exploration highlights the complexity of debates surrounding religion and tradition in the context of social change while promoting a broader understanding of the dynamics of contemporary Muslim societies.

Abstract

This study explores the concept of sign language in the Qur’an as a universal form of communication rooted in human nature. Unlike previous studies focusing on verbal ethics in Islamic communication, this research highlights nonverbal expressions silence, gestures, and visual signs as legitimate and sacred forms of al-bayān (articulation of meaning). Through a qualitative-descriptive library research approach, the study employs thematic Qur’anic exegesis (tafsīr mauḍū‘ī), nonverbal communication theory as articulated by Ray L. Birdwhistell, and theological semiotics to analyze verses depicting prophetic gestures: prophet Zakariyya’s symbolic silence Surah Āli ʿImran verse 41; Surah Maryam verse 10, Maryam’s gesture toward prophet ‘Isa surah Maryam verse 26, prophet Musa’s radiant hand Surah Ṭaha verse 22, and the regulation of voice and conduct in communication Surah al-Ḥujurat verses 2–3. Findings reveal that nonverbal communication in the Qur’an functions not merely as an alternative to speech but as a divinely sanctioned medium of spiritual awareness and worship. Silence becomes a means of purification and surrender, gestures become extensions of divine will, and light serves as a visual symbol of divine truth. Theologically, this study affirms that al-bayān represents a holistic system of meaning (niẓām al-maʿnā), integrating verbal, paralinguistic, and nonverbal dimensions into a unified Qur’anic communication paradigm. The research contributes to Qur’anic communication studies by proposing a tauḥīdī framework in which silence, movement, and light operate as sacred languages of devotion and consciousness demonstrating that divine communication transcends speech and resonates within all dimensions of human expression.

Abstract

Contemporary professional life increasingly demands strong ethical foundations to address problems such as declining work ethics, weak accountability, and the erosion of integrity in various social and institutional contexts. Within Islamic intellectual tradition, the Qur’an offers a comprehensive moral framework that emphasizes ethical responsibility in human conduct. However, previous studies often examine the values of work ethic, amanah (trustworthiness), and integrity separately, resulting in a fragmented understanding of their interrelated ethical structure. This study aims to analyze the Qur’anic construction of work ethic, amanah, and integrity as an integrated ethical framework and to explore their relevance for strengthening moral character and professional culture in contemporary society. This research employs qualitative library research using thematic analysis of Qur’anic verses supported by classical and contemporary exegetical literature. The findings demonstrate that the Qur’an conceptualizes work ethic as diligence and responsibility in fulfilling human duties, amanah as moral accountability in carrying entrusted responsibilities, and integrity as consistency between faith, speech, and action. These values are not independent but form an interconnected ethical system that guides individuals toward responsible and ethical conduct. The study concludes that the Qur’anic framework of work ethic, amanah, and integrity provides a significant moral foundation for reinforcing professionalism, accountability, and ethical work culture in the modern era.
