Abstract

This research is entitled “An Analysis Social Change In Obama Era As Reflected Lauren Oliver‟s Novel “Before I Fall. The purpose of this study is to determine what social changes occur in the novel “Before I Fall”. The method that has been used in this research is qualitative, because this method can provide accurate data. The data obtained from novel Before I Fall which consists seven chapters. Data is also taken from the books, journals and internet concerned with this research. The results showed that the social changes that occur have a positive impact that makes inspiration for adolescents and other society.

Abstract

The analysis of this research is the novel "The husband" written by Dean Koontz. This novel is one of the novels recognized as "the most popular suspense novelist in America" ​​(Rolling stone) and as one of the most well-known and successful writers today, Dean Ray Koontz has received millions of readers worldwide and praise from critics everywhere- where for stories about characters, mysteries, and heartfelt adventures. In the novel the husband by Dean Koontz, which tells the story of George Walker Bush's leadership. The fourth section closes with a brief description of the background conditions against which Mr. Bush's second term was set. In general, the author has found that the Bush administration's reaction to the recession that took place between 2001 and late 2003 was correct, but poorly schemed.

Abstract

The article deals with improving students’ vocabulary through English song at SMK Einstein school . The research aims to improve the twelfth-grade students of SMK Einstein School in mastering vocabulary through English song. The research was conducted by Classroom Action Research (CAR). Techniques used to collect the data are planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The researcher selected 30 students of class XII-SMK Einstein School academic year of 2020/2021. The instrument used in the research was the song lyrics.Songs can be trusted to help remember vocabulary and used the songs are interested in learning English. Memorizing song can be used to improve English vocabulary so that the purpose of learning English as a communication tool can be achieved optimally. It can be seen from the result of the research showed that there was improvement from Cycle I to Cycle II in the students’ participation in introduction, discussion and practice. In the students’ achievement Cycle I was 67,43, the average score of the Cycle II was 85. It can be concluded that songs have a significant impact on improving students’ vocabulary.

Abstract

The article aims to investigate whether there is significant correlation between students’ interest and students’ achievement in learning English at SMA Swasta Pertiwi Medan. The techniques used to collect the data are observation and questionnaire. The researcher selected 30 students as a sampling from Grade X IA2. The Finding of the study is the students’ interest could influence the in achievement. Students who have high interest try to pursue knowledge more than who have the low one. They tend to be more attentive in learning the lesson and motivation to enrich their vocabulary, to practice their English and do a lot of exercises to make them more skillful in using English. Based on the research finding, the conclusion is that there is a correlation between students’ interest and their achievement. it is suggested to (1) to teacher who teaches English in the classroom need to ensure that student realize that both high and low interest gets attention, (2) the teacher has to manage the classroom to help the students think creatively

Abstract

The article deals with the teachers’ strategies in teaching listening comprehension for Senior High School in MAN Serdang Bedagai. The aims at knowing the teachers’ strategies in teaching listening comprehension , the problems are found by the teachers and how they overcome the problems. The research was conducted by using qualitative method. Techniques used to collect the data are observation, taking note and interview . The researcher selected two participants which is the English teacher’s in grade 12th at MAN Serdang Bedagai . The results of the study are The participant one use note-taking strategies and summarizing strategies and the participant two, use the pay attention strategies when deliver the listening theory and when do the listening practice. Based on the research finding, the conclusion is that there are several strategies which used by the English teachers in teaching listening, the strategies are taking note, summarizing and paying attention.

Abstract

The objectives of the study were 1) to describe the form of moral values found in selected poems by Maya Angelou, and 2) to describe how the disclosure of moral values in selected poems by Maya Angelou.  In this case, the research used a descriptive qualitative method to classify and analyze the data. This collection of poems is interesting to research because it contains many moral values and very inspiring messages about life, humanity and justice in the poem. The approach used in this research is a pragmatic approach. Based on the results of the analysis, the researcher found three most dominant moral values : Moral Courage, Be Yourself, and Honesty. After finding the moral values in each stanza of the poem, the poem was analyzed to obtain the meaning contained in each stanza.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Konsep Pencegahan Korupsi dengan nilai-nilai kultural dan moral yang bersumber dari Kearifan Lokal(jiwa rakyat) mempunyai peranan yang penting sebagaimana yang dikonsepkan oleh Von Savigny  Teori Volkgeist (Jiwa Bangsa) bahwa hukum itu tidak dibuat melainkan tumbuh dan berkembang dalam jiwa bangsa. Hukum terbentuk lewat mekanisme yang bersifat bottom up Dari bawah ke atas) dan bukan top down (atas ke bawah). Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah : Menghasilkan Pencegahan Korupsi dengan menggali Kearifan Lokal Masyarakat Melayu yang identik  Islam.Menerapkan Konsep Budaya Malu dalam aktivitas sehari-hari dan Literasi dengan perkembangan teknologi nilai-nilai Budaya Malu mulai memudar di kalangan generasi muda maupun Masyarakat. Penelitian ini adalah merupakan Penelitian Hukum Empiris, dengan menggunakan data primer dan data sekunder.Hasil Penelitian dianalisis secara Kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat dikemukakan  bahwa. Budaya Malu  orang Melayu identik dengan Agama Islamhal ini terlihat  dalam pantun-pantun, syair-syair, ungkapan-ungkapan dan lain yang bernuansa Islami dan sebagainya yang mengandung petuah-petuah maupun amanah yang diturunkan secara turun-temurun dari generasi  ke generasi  yang isinya berupa falsafah hidup bagi orang Melayu yang terangkum dalam bentuk Literasi melayu. Literasi Melayu yang terdiri atas Pantun dan Syair dalam bentuk Tunjuk Ajar digunakan sebagai menjawab Program Pencegahan Korupsi pada khususnya di Sumatera Utara. Keywords :BudayaMalu, Islam, KearifanLokal,Jiwa Rakyat
