<![CDATA[RINGKASAN- This study aims to determine the development, validity and effectiveness ofdevelopment of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) teaching materials in reading comprehension. This research is a research and development (R&D) using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The instrument used is a questionnaire for expert lecturers and students, interviews with teachers, and the results of the last test given to students. The test results from the validator through media design as a whole get very feasible criteria (88.33%) so that teaching materials can be used as teaching materials for students in the learning process. The results of the assessment of English Teaching Materials by experts on the substance of the material as a whole from the aspects that are considered to have received appropriate criteria (90%) so that the Teaching Materials can be used in the learning process.Keyword: Teaching Materials, High Order Thinking Skills, Development, Reading Comprehension.]]>

<![CDATA[Since the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the world has heavily relied on the internet to acquire information. The Pandemic is growing as a complex information discourse with so many texts from many sources. Various texts about Covid-19 certainly have various meanings for their readers. It is interesting to see an information resource that presents information in many languages in parallel. This study aims to reveal the global meaning of the parallel Indonesian and English texts of Covid-19 released by the World Health Organization. More specifically, this study examines whether parallelism in the two versions of the same text will present differences in the global meaning of each text; and whether there are social and political aspects that potentially affect the differences. The data for this study consists of two pairs of question-and-answer texts about Covid-19 published by WHO in English and Indonesian. This study used van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis framework at the macrostructure level. This study collected all texts and macro rules (deletion, generalization, and construction) have been applied to reduce information at the texts’ micro level to macropropositions at the macro level or the global topics/themes of discourse. There are some differences in the Indonesian text when compared to the original English text. Some of these differences may appear in the Indonesian translated version as a response to Indonesia's social and political conditions during the Covid-19 pandemic.]]>

The purpose of this study is to determine what social changes occur in the novel “Before I Fall”. The method that has been used in this research is qualitative, because this method can provide accurate data. The data obtained from novel Before I Fall which consists seven chapters. Data is also taken from the books, journals and internet concerned with this research. The results showed that the social changes that occur have a positive impact that makes inspiration for adolescents and other society.]]>

<![CDATA[The analysis of this research is the novel "The husband" written by Dean Koontz. This novel is one of the novels recognized as "the most popular suspense novelist in America" (Rolling stone) and as one of the most well-known and successful writers today, Dean Ray Koontz has received millions of readers worldwide and praise from critics everywhere- where for stories about characters, mysteries, and heartfelt adventures. In the novel the husband by Dean Koontz, which tells the story of George Walker Bush's leadership. The fourth section closes with a brief description of the background conditions against which Mr. Bush's second term was set. In general, the author has found that the Bush administration's reaction to the recession that took place between 2001 and late 2003 was correct, but poorly schemed.]]>

<![CDATA[Team based project short film-based is the implementation of the course english drama which is one of the courses in the English literature study program that studies English literary works. The aims of this study were; (1) to increase student creativity through learning models team based project based on short films, (2) knowing the effectiveness of learning models team based project on courses english drama. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative. Methods of data collection using observation, interviews and documents. The results of the research show the learning model team based project effectively used in courses english drama and making short films that are uploaded on YouTube in accordance with the creativity of students who have been guided in the theoretical material sessions that have been given by the course lecturer. The stages of the project using team based project short film based is; (1) students discuss related to the theme of the short film according to the course, (2) write scripts, (3) students carry out project activities according to the timeline that has been prepared, (4) students edit films and upload them to social media youtube. <![CDATA[The article deals with improving students’ vocabulary through English song at SMK Einstein school . The research aims to improve the twelfth-grade students of SMK Einstein School in mastering vocabulary through English song. The research was conducted by Classroom Action Research (CAR). Techniques used to collect the data are planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The researcher selected 30 students of class XII-SMK Einstein School academic year of 2020/2021. The instrument used in the research was the song lyrics.Songs can be trusted to help remember vocabulary and used the songs are interested in learning English. Memorizing song can be used to improve English vocabulary so that the purpose of learning English as a communication tool can be achieved optimally. It can be seen from the result of the research showed that there was improvement from Cycle I to Cycle II in the students’ participation in introduction, discussion and practice. In the students’ achievement Cycle I was 67,43, the average score of the Cycle II was 85. It can be concluded that songs have a significant impact on improving students’ vocabulary.]]>

<![CDATA[The article aims to investigate whether there is significant correlation between students’ interest and students’ achievement in learning English at SMA Swasta Pertiwi Medan. The techniques used to collect the data are observation and questionnaire. The researcher selected 30 students as a sampling from Grade X IA2. The Finding of the study is the students’ interest could influence the in achievement. Students who have high interest try to pursue knowledge more than who have the low one. They tend to be more attentive in learning the lesson and motivation to enrich their vocabulary, to practice their English and do a lot of exercises to make them more skillful in using English. Based on the research finding, the conclusion is that there is a correlation between students’ interest and their achievement. it is suggested to (1) to teacher who teaches English in the classroom need to ensure that student realize that both high and low interest gets attention, (2) the teacher has to manage the classroom to help the students think creatively]]>

<![CDATA[The article deals with the teachers’ strategies in teaching listening comprehension for Senior High School in MAN Serdang Bedagai. The aims at knowing the teachers’ strategies in teaching listening comprehension , the problems are found by the teachers and how they overcome the problems. The research was conducted by using qualitative method. Techniques used to collect the data are observation, taking note and interview . The researcher selected two participants which is the English teacher’s in grade 12th at MAN Serdang Bedagai . The results of the study are The participant one use note-taking strategies and summarizing strategies and the participant two, use the pay attention strategies when deliver the listening theory and when do the listening practice. Based on the research finding, the conclusion is that there are several strategies which used by the English teachers in teaching listening, the strategies are taking note, summarizing and paying attention.]]>

<![CDATA[The objectives of the study were 1) to describe the form of moral values found in selected poems by Maya Angelou, and 2) to describe how the disclosure of moral values in selected poems by Maya Angelou. In this case, the research used a descriptive qualitative method to classify and analyze the data. This collection of poems is interesting to research because it contains many moral values and very inspiring messages about life, humanity and justice in the poem. The approach used in this research is a pragmatic approach. Based on the results of the analysis, the researcher found three most dominant moral values : Moral Courage, Be Yourself, and Honesty. After finding the moral values in each stanza of the poem, the poem was analyzed to obtain the meaning contained in each stanza.]]>

<![CDATA[The objective of this research is to develop the reading comprehension materials for Senior High School students based on Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy at SMAN 13 Medan. The data of this research are quantitative and qualitative. The researcher uses the percentage of the questionnaire of need analysis for the quantitative data. Meanwhile, for the qualitative, the researcher uses the content analysis for describing the data. The data is collected by using questionnaire. The result of needs analysis showed two parts, those were target needs and learning needs. After gathering the need analysis.The researcher implemented ADDIE model for developing the materials. In order to maintain the students’ needs, the researcher created the theoretical model which consists of two big components namely; the components of reading comprehension and vocabulary self-collection strategy. The researcher develop the theoretical model which has been verified by the expert. The researcher finds that the model can give the big advantages to the students’ reading skills development.]]>
