Abstract

This study aims to find out female stereotypes depicted in the reconstructed stories of Cinderella in the children's storybook entitled Ketika Rapunzel Menjadi Rapinem (KRMP). These stories are mainly inspired by the classic fairy tale of Cinderella, which is then reconstructed through the archetype process. It is essential to study the stories due to the prevalent issue of female stereotypes. Women’s conditions in such reconstructed works certainly bring a perspective, especially the depiction of women, as existing social reflections. The study uses a qualitative descriptive method to support the goal. The data collection uses a purposive sampling technique by conducting in-depth readings on the reconstruction of Cinderella stories, representing women's stereotypes. The data is analysed using the feminism theory. As a result, the stories clearly and consistently define the stereotypes of women from their physical appearances, personality traits, domestic roles, and occupations. In this case, women's portrayal in the reconstructed versions openly continues to glorify physical beauty as a standard for women's appearance; on the other hand, they should also maintain femininity and do domestic works as housewives or caregivers.

Abstract

This article attempts at exploring the identity formation through children’s fashion, in particular adjusted to famous characters on cartoon movies. By ‘children’ means that they are also subjects to whose identity fashion presumably contributes to shape, which is continuous and has the future. By using some theories about fashion and identity from traditional, modern, and postmodern, supported by the awareness of media’s role on constituting consumerism culture amongst children, the fashion’s role in constructing children’s identity is in details scrutinized. As a result, children’s identity formation through fashion is mostly due to their liking on certain characters on cartoon movies. This liking is influenced by media’s role on constituting their consumerism towards the movie and fashion adoration. However, the influence of media power can not represent completely the ‘truer’ identity since it has history as well as future, which will always revolve in such a never-ending cycle. If it is not a direct contribution, it aids to support the ‘idealized’ identity construction, which is worthily appropriate to postmodern societies.

To expose the kinds of discrimination due to the patriarchal culture experienced by the protagonist, this study uses a qualitative method that refers to a descriptive approach to collect primary and secondary data as material for problem-solving and is what it is. This study uses feminist literary criticism theory as a data analysis tool. This research is essential to study because the patriarchal culture inherent in society is the cause of women experiencing discrimination. Men and women play patriarchal culture, so it is oftentimes for women to experience discrimination from men and fellow women. Abstract

The concept of the human body has existed since ancient Greece. The Greece philosopher halted from Plato, followers, and thinkers have different concepts about the body. The human body is so important that many discussion related to the body has always been an endless debate. This kind of debate is also depicted in Shallow Hal (SH) movie produced in 2001. The film shows the story of a man named Hal (Jack Black) and Mauricio (Jason Alexander). Both men have an interest in women who are slender and beautiful. Through the issue of the body by using the discourse analysis approach and Michel Foucault's theories of power, this study analyzes how the concept of the female body as a form of discipline is represented in the film. From the data in analysis, it is found that the beautiful concept reflected in the film shows that woman can be said to be beautiful if she has the standards prevailing in society; that is she must be slim, has big breasts, long legs, and a perfect body proportions. This concept is often presented by the media which eventually becomes the true standard of how the woman’s body should be. Hence, it can be said that the media plays a role in shaping the discourse how the concept of beauty of the acceptable female body. Media, in this case, is the main stakeholder in winning the discourse

Abstract

Women in literary works were often presented as a representation of resistance to the their social, cultural and traditional backgrounds. This could also be seen in the novel Tonggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari. This study discussed the resistance of the female character in the novel to her patron-client practices. Using Scott’s patron-client theory, it was revealed that the resistance made by Srintil’s character as ronggeng against her patron, Ki Kartareja, was a rule from the ronggeng tradition that shackles her freedom as a human and a woman. Patron-cient relationships that initially worked out eventually led Srintil to fight back. The rules and prohibitions on falling in love, the desire to marry and having children ordered by Kartareja as a ronggeng shaman benefitted only for the men (the patriarchal culture) legitimated by culture led Srintil to rebel and resist in her own way.

Abstract

This study explores the character of Arthur “Boo” Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird through Sigmund Freud  psychoanalytic lens, focusing on his repression, isolation, and unconscious motivations. Arthur, a reclusive figure misunderstood by society, serves as a vital symbol of innocence and resilience in the face of trauma. The novel's themes of alienation and moral growth are intricately connected to Arthur’s interactions with the Finch children and the broader community. A qualitative research design was conducted, using textual analysis to examine Arthur “Boo” Radley’s psychological development and the dynamics of his id, ego, and superego. Key passages involving Arthur were analyzed to uncover how his experiences of trauma and societal judgment influence his actions and internal conflicts. The study reveals that Arthur's repressive upbringing and community ostracism shaped his unconscious desire for connection, which manifests in his small yet significant acts of kindness toward Scout and Jem. Findings suggest that Arthur “Boo” Radley’s character provides a profound commentary on the impact of trauma, the resilience of human kindness, and the importance of empathy in overcoming societal prejudices. His role as a moral catalyst for the Finch children highlights the novel's broader themes of justice, compassion, and the need to challenge preconceived notions. By analyzing Arthur “Boo” Radley, this study contributes to understanding the psychological underpinnings of literary characters and their relevance to societal issues.

Abstract

Background: Background: Tourism villages generally need help with marketing due to the lack of community involvement in these efforts. As a result, the content and news on their websites often need to be updated. This activity aims to enhance the writing skills of tourism journalism cadres in Tamansari, Banyumas. Method: In order to achieve this goal, a training program includes three stages: presentations, field observations for material/data collection, and writing practice. Results: Based on the results and evaluations conducted, it can be concluded that the training program was quite successful. This is evident from three main indicators: 1) the training participants showed a high enthusiasm for attending the training (100%), and they are also committed to promoting (100%) their village. During the implementation, the number of participants remained intact (100%) and engaged in every activity stage with total commitment. A post-training survey also supports this positive trend. The majority (75%) felt the training went well, and they also experienced the benefits of the activity. With this positive perception, they also expressed readiness (100%) to create/write news and to promote tourism (100%). They demonstrated this by submitting news writing assignments in class or individual tasks at home. Their writings required minimal editing (3-5%) and were ready for publication. Conclusion: The mentoring provided awareness of the importance of promoting and utilizing the younger generation to contribute by channeling their abilities to create journalistic works that highlight tourism information in their villages.

Abstract

The depiction of female liberation in mainstream media has emerged as a critical focus within feminist discourse. This article examines how Sabrina Carpenter's music video "Feather" represents women's defiance against patriarchal oppression through radical feminist theory and Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method to analyze particular visual scenes and symbols, including religious imagery (church altars, coffins, and crosses), outfit selections (black bridal dress, pink sporty outfit), gestures, facial expressions, and narrative irony (e.g., scenes of male catcallers being hit by a truck), in order explain themes of female autonomy. The signs are examined through the lenses of denotation, connotation, and myth. The findings indicate that “Feather” converts patriarchal religious and cultural symbols into instruments of emancipation and critiques societal conventions related to gender, authority, and female visibility in public spaces. This research highlights that pop media, when critically analyzed, can function as a platform for feminist resistance and ideological transformation.
