Abstract

This paper is a report of self-evaluation on teaching the students of Teacher Training and Education Faculty, University of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto at Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL) classes since 2012 until today. Research and Development design is used here to test the feasible method to improve the endeavors of the classes.Four different classes at even semesters are analyzed as the data: TEYL class A 2012/2013 (28 students), TEYL class B 2012/ 2013 (28 students), TEYL class 2013/2014 (36 students), and TEYL class 2014/2015 (52 students). The students of 2012/2013 were asked to find the characteristics of children’s learning styles topic as individual task while students of 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 were asked to do in group. The groups of the last two classes were formed in familial setting in which the lecturer prepared cards with 4 different surnames. Those got the same surname became one group and they became a big family in which they pretend to be brothers and sisters of different ages. Each, then, became one responsible most to find out characteristics of his supposed age. The discovery shows that the classes of 2012/2013 tended to be inactive as they wished they have got information from their friends while what we call now the members of the families of 2013/ 2014 and 2014/2015 showed great responds. Almost all of the members of the family showed their enthusiasm, collaborative works, as well as understanding. Keywords: familial setting, autonomy

Abstract

Rama-Sintha is a very legendary story, however this story is always worth-watching in various forms—film, dancing, drama, novel even in cartoon. Seno Gumira Ajidarma, is one of the writers who retells the story from different point of view. Kitab Omong Kosong,  referred to as KOK, tells about Sintha's lawsuit against Rama's love. The novel no longer tells about the epic of their legendary love story, but it criticizes  love and virginity-orientation in a patriarchal culture. This is due to the reason what Shinta has experienced in KOK, representing the imbalance of woman in society. This research will use content analysis to reveal the KOK using feminist’s perspectives. This study will employ a feminist point of view to see a biased association of  love to  virginity. In patriarchal culture, virginity becomes one of the standards to value one’s love. The result of this research shows that KOK,is a deconstruction of Rama-Shinta love story, to a story full of anger, arrogance, and jealousy. As lelanang (man), Shinta is a symbol of power. Her  kidnapping by Rahwana is a humiliation against Rama’s dignity. Thus,  to receive  her  back as his wife, Rama asked her  to prove her purity and loyalty. This is shows unequal power between Rama and Shinta, as two lovers. She was a true victim of patriarchy. Her choice to disappear (moksa) is a  resistance struggle against his beloved husband’s domination.DOWNLOAD ABSTRACT

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendekonstruksi sebuah novel karya Mark Twain yang berjudul Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Novel ini dipilih karena orang-orang Amerika berpikir bahwa mereka adalah orang-orang yang mengakui hak asasi manusia, sementara novel ini menggambarkan sikap buruk dan kejam orang-orang Amerika terhadap orang-orang negro. Melalui episode-episode di dalam Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, gambaran kemanusiaan orang-orang Amerika didekonstruksi.Teori dekonstruksi dari Jacques Derrida digunakan sebagai pisau analisis. Dekonstruksi bukanlah suatu sistem pemikiran tetapi merupakan usaha taktis yang didesain untuk membuktikan ketidakstabilan bahasa.Dari penelitian ini diperoleh gambaran perlakuan keji masyarakat Amerika terhadap masyarakat kulit hitam, yang diwakili oleh Jim. Asumsi pertama berupa asumsi bahwa masyarakat kulit hitam atau Negro merupakan barang untuk diperjual-belikan. Masyarakat, bahkan mereka yang berasal dari golongan atas, -baik secara sosial maupun keagamaan, secara mudah membeli dan menjual orang kulit hitam demi mendapatkan uang. Kedua, mereka berpikir bahwa Negro bukanlah manusia. Asumsi ini dapat dilihat melalui bahasa yang mereka gunakan dan tindakan mereka menempatkan budak. Yang ketiga, mereka menjadikan kaum kulit hitam sebagai objek prasangka, keyakinan bahwa kaum kulit hitam adalah pelaku kriminal. Poin-poin di atas menjadi gambaran dekonstruksi tentang orang-orang Amerika dan keyakinan mereka sebagai bangsa yang menghargai hak asasi manusia.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology has changed children’s attention mostly to computer and its all-things rather than to paper based things.  This way, story books for children may become untouched things that lead to the unheard of strange things to children.  If the condition happens, language acquisition, cultural understanding, and moral teaching and all the advantages of tales reading will then come into only a fantasy. Abstract

Pandemi COVID-19 menimbulkan efek negatif terhadap pembelajaran di Taman Kanak-Kanak (TK). Para guru merasa pembelajaran daring tidak efektif sekaligus melelahkan. Mereka harus menghabiskan lebih banyak waktu, tetapi hasilnya jauh dari harapan. Tujuan pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah untuk mengatasi permaslahan pembelajaran pembelajaran daring di TK, dengan memberikan penyuluhan dan pelatihan metode dan media pembelajaran daring. Dari hasil pelatihan, peserta mendapatkan suntikan semangat dan harapan baru untuk melaksanakan pembelajaran daring secara lebih baik melalui penggunaan aplikasi LearningManagement System LMS, yang memadukan pembelajaran sinkronus dan non-sinkronus. Selain itu, disarankan agar para guru lebih memanfaatkan pembelajaran secara berkelompok agar pelaksanaan pembelajaran lebih kondusif bagi anak-anak, dan secara waktu lebih efisien untuk para guru. Hal lain yang ditekankan adalah pentingnya melibatkan peran orang tua dalam pembelajaran daring.

Abstract

Women in literary works were often presented as a representation of resistance to the their social, cultural and traditional backgrounds. This could also be seen in the novel Tonggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari. This study discussed the resistance of the female character in the novel to her patron-client practices. Using Scott’s patron-client theory, it was revealed that the resistance made by Srintil’s character as ronggeng against her patron, Ki Kartareja, was a rule from the ronggeng tradition that shackles her freedom as a human and a woman. Patron-cient relationships that initially worked out eventually led Srintil to fight back. The rules and prohibitions on falling in love, the desire to marry and having children ordered by Kartareja as a ronggeng shaman benefitted only for the men (the patriarchal culture) legitimated by culture led Srintil to rebel and resist in her own way. Perempuan dalam karya sastra sering dihadirkan sebagai representasi perlawanan terhadap kondisi sosial, budaya dan tradisi yang melatarbelakanginya. Hal tersebut juga terlihat dalam novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk karya Ahmad Tohari. Penelitian ini akan membahas resistansi yang dilakukan tokoh perempuan dalam novel tersebut terhadap praktik patron-klien yang dijalaninya. Dengan menggunakan teori patron-klien dari Scott, terungkap bahwa resistansi yang dilakukan tokoh Srintil sebagai ronggeng terhadap patronnya, Ki Kartareja, merupakan penolakan Srintil terhadap aturan dari tradisi ronggeng yang membelenggu kebebasannya sebagai manusia dan perempuan. Relasi patron-klien yang awalnya berjalan dengan baik pada akhirnya menuntun Srintil untuk melawan. Aturan berupa larangan jatuh cinta, menikah, dan memiliki anak yang didengungkan oleh Kartareja sebagai dukun ronggeng hanya menguntungkan laki-laki yang terlegitimasi budaya. Hal tersebut membuat Srintil berontak dan melakukan resistansi dengan caranya sendiri.

Abstract

Ketika orang tua mengajarkan bahasa bagi anak-anaknya, mereka akan mengulang-ulang kata-kata baru dan menggerakkan badan untuk menjadikan anak-anak memahami apa yang diajarkan. Total Physical response, selanjutnya disebut TPR, merupakan temuan Dr. James J Asher. TPR bisa digunakan untuk memperkenalkan kosa kata baru terutama kata kerja. Dalam kesempatan kali ini, TPR diterapkan dalam pengajaran Bahasa Inggris bagi para siswa kelas 6 SDN Wetonkulon, Kecamatan Puring, Kabupaten Kebumen, Jawa Tengah. TPR merupakan metode yang tepat bagi kebanyakan anak usia SD karena mereka memahami lebih baik dengan merespon dalam wujud gerakan ketika belajar. Dengan belajar sambil menggerakkan badan, mereka mengingat materi pelajaran lebih lama. Mereka juga berani tampil di depan kelas untuk memeragakan gerakan sebagaimana puisi Bahasa Inggris yang diajarkan kepada mereka. Bahkan, mereka mampu menghafalkan bait-bait puisi yang cukup panjang dengan baik. Secara singkat dapat disimpulkan bahwa para siswa SD yang semula malu-malu ketika diberikan beberapa pertanyaan terkait kosa kata dalam Bahasa Inggris, menjadi tampil percaya diri setelah diajarkan Bahasa Inggris dengan metode TPR.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the struggle of women in the field of work as depicted in the Radioactive (2019) movie, focusing on the life of Marie Skolodowska Curie - a pioneering female scientist. This problem is important to analyze because the gender inequality, discrimination, and patriarchy dominates women in the field of work they good at. The experience of the main character in the film, Maria Sklodowska Curie is important in this article. She must compete with male scientist to get equal right in the field of work faced in a male-dominated field, where she was denied resources, recognition, and respect despite her groundbreaking contributions to science. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The theory used was Betty Friedan’s liberal feminist theory. The researcher analyze the gender inequality, discrimination that experienced by the main character and the character that Marie Sklodowska Curie has that reflect her as a feminist. As a result of the research, there were several gender inequalities committed by male characters at that time towards Marie Sklodowska Curie such as unequal access to research facilities lack of funding, etc. and two attitudes that reflect Marie Sklodowska as a feminist, such as brave and intelligence. Through her character she managed to become the first female scientist in the world.

Abstract

This study examines how gendered power struggles are represented through the female protagonists of Fair Play (2023) and Radioactive (2019). Both narratives center on Emily and Marie Curie who navigate male-dominated professional environments shaped by patriarchal norms and institutional hierarchies. The purpose of this comparative study is to deepen feminist readings of contemporary and historical female figures while fostering critically empathetic engagement with visual narratives. The research utilizes a comparative critical analysis framework, drawing on the theories of Judith Butler, Michelle M. Lazar, and bell hooks to explore how institutionalized misogyny, emotional labor, and resistance are constructed on screen. The findings reveal that both protagonists experience layered forms of marginalization, including workplace bias, emotional burden, and social surveillance. Yet, each asserts agency, Emily through reclaiming her dignity in the corporate world, and Marie Curie through intellectual defiance in academia. This study contributes to feminist film criticism by highlighting the emotional cost of women’s survival within gendered structures and underscoring the need for more intersectional and humanized portrayals of female agency in media.

Abstract

Antraks merupakan salah satu penyakit zoonosis yang terabaikan dan masih menjadi isu secara global. Antraks menjadi salah satu penyakit pada ternak yang sangat berbahaya karena tidak hanya menjangkit hewan ternak saja tetapi juga dapat menular pada manusia dan menyebabkan kematian sehingga harus diwaspadai. Meningkatkan kesadaran dan pengetahuan masyarakat tentang penyakit antraks adalah langkah kunci dalam menjaga keamanan peternakan dan kesejahteraan ternak. Oleh karena itu, tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat tentang bahaya antraks melalui penyuluhan. Metode yang digunakan yaitu berupa penyuluhan. Partisipan merupakan anggota kelompok Tani Ternak Desa Kedaleman Kulon sebanyak 20 orang. Hasil menunjukan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan, pemahaman, dan kesadaran Masyarakat akan bahaya penyakit antraks pada hewan ternak yang dilihat dari hasil pre-test dan post-test.
