Abstract

Several researchers have used image enhancement methods to reduce detection errors and increase verification accuracy in palmprint identification. Divergent opinions exist among experts regarding the best method of image filtering to improve image palmprint recognition. Because of the unique characteristics of palmprints and the difficulties in preventing counterfeiting, image-filtering techniques are the subject of this current research. Researchers hope to create the best biometric system possible by utilizing various techniques. These techniques include image enhancement, Gabor orientation scales, dimension reduction techniques, and appropriate matching strategies. This study investigates how different filtering approaches might be combined to improve images. The palmprint identification system uses a 3W filter, which combines wavelet, Wiener, and weighted filters. Optimizing results entails coordinating the 3W filter with Gabor orientation scales, matching processes, and dimension reduction methods. The research shows that accuracy may be considerably increased using a 3W filter with a Gabor orientation scale of [8×7], the kernel principal component analysis (KPCA) dimension reduction methodology, and a cosine matching method. Specifically, a value of 99.722% can be achieved. These results highlight the importance of selecting appropriate settings and techniques for palmprint recognition systems.

Abstract

Vascular streak dieback is a major disease in cocoa trees that affects at in various stages, and effect in significant yield losses. This study aimed to identify the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC), infection rate (r), and the influence of weather factors on the development of vascular streak dieback disease caused by Ceratobasidium theobromae in some cocoa clones with different resistant levels. The research used a randomized complete block design consisted six clones as treatment and each treatment consisted of three replications. Disease severity was observed on six different cocoa clones and observations were conducted monthly. The observation of disease severity was observed monthly for 12 months and then used to analyze AUDPC and infection rate. Monthly data on the weather conditions were taken from the climatology station of the Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Center, East Java. The results showed that Sulawesi 01 and ICCRI 09, categorized as resistant clones, showed low AUDPC values, 0.02 and 2.85 respectively. The cocoa clones Sulawesi 02 and MCC 02, categorized as tolerant clones, had higher AUDPC values, 19.87 and 34.27 respectively. The cocoa clones BCL and BL 50 showed the highest AUDPC values, 277.05 and 265.70 respectively. Path analysis on resistant clones indicated that rainfall is the most influential weather factor in increasing the severity of vascular streak dieback, followed by temperature. Higher relative humidity can significantly reduce disease severity, while sunlight and wind speed have smaller effects. In contrast, path analysis on susceptible clones showed that temperature, rainfall, relative humidity, and wind speed all positively influence the severity of vascular streak dieback. At the same time, sunlight has a mitigating effect.

Abstract

Voltage, current, and frequency are three electrical energy variables that need to be monitored because if they do not comply with established standards, they can cause damage to electronic devices that use electrical energy. The objective of this article is to develop a submeter that can be used for monitoring both energy consumption and three power quality variables. The system was developed by using commercially available instruments involving the PZEM 004t sensor, the Wemos D1 mini microcontroller, and the Blynk platform on the smartphone. The use of the Blynk platform enables the system to log the monitored variables continuously in the form of a spreadsheet file and send them via email in order to be downloaded and used for further analysis. The results of calibration tests carried out using varying loads showed that the developed system has voltage measurement results with a difference of 1.35% when compared to measurement results using a commercial multimeter, while the difference for current measurements is 0.85%.

Abstract

Currently, although there is an increase in the number of women's participation in various sectors, in the government sector there are still many women who experience obstacles to becoming leaders. Some of the obstacles faced include gender stereotypes, discrimination, multiple role demands and lack of access to resources. Apart from that, it is felt that research on women's leadership in regional government is still very minimal, so more in-depth research on women's leadership is needed. This research aims to analyze the factors that influence women's leadership in terms of self-efficacy, emotional intelligence and competence and compare them with men's leadership. Self efficacy is measured by magnitude, generality, strength. Emotional intelligence is measured by knowing one's emotions, managing emotions, one's own motivation, recognizing emotions in others, and handling relationships. Leadership competence is measured by knowledge, skills and attitude. This research uses a quantitative approach with descriptive verification methods and comparative analysis using the independent sample t-test. The research results show that the self-efficacy and competence of female leaders is higher than that of male leaders, but there are no significant differences, however, male and female leaders apparently have the same level of emotional intelligence

Abstract

Severe crop loss of cocoa in Indonesia has long been reported to be caused by Helopeltis. It has been noted that cocoa and Helopeltis have existed in Kaliwining Experimental Station of Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Institute (ICCRI), Jember, Indonesia, for about 100 years, and the species have developed during that time. Our study aimed for examining the Helopeltis species that attacked cocoa in this experimental station both morphologically, morphometrically, and molecularly and to compare the species with the one attacking cocoa in Java and Nusa Tenggara, preserved at the GenBank. Helopeltis was sampled from infested cocoa pods collected representatively from cocoa at the Kaliwining ES and then reared in the Crop Protection Laboratory of ICCRI. Adults of Helopeltis laboratory-reared insects were identified, 30 females 30 males were selected. Weexamined the morphology and morphometry of the samples, and their identifica tion was based on an insect identification key. Morphometry measurement of male and female body parts includes body length, antenna segments, head, eyes, collar, wing, tibia, and femur. In addition, the molecular identification of Helopeltissp. was made through DNA extraction, amplification, and sequence analysis of DNA target regions using the COI part of mitochondrial DNA. External morphological identification, supported by morphometry of the Helopeltis specimen from Kaliwning, the white bands on all femora, body length, and the ratio of the firstantennal segment to the posterior width of the pronotum suggested that the insect belongs to Helopeltis bradyi. Similarly, molecular identification using PCR amplification through specific primers from COI gene sequences confirmed that Helopeltis specimens from Kaliwining are classified as Helopeltis bradyi.
