Abstract

The Boti indigenous community on Timor Island utilizes non-timber forest products for their daily lives, but there is a lack of information about their potential and sustainable use, which requires an empowerment initiative for them. This study aims to investigate the potential and utilization of NTFPs while also formulating an NTFPs development strategy in Boti Village. A combined method, including literature review, plot measurement, socio-economic surveys, and interviews, was used to collect data. NTFPs were evaluated for their potential using the importance value index; their utilization was studied through an ethnobotanical survey; and an NTFP development strategy was formulated utilizing a SWOT-PESTLE analysis. The results show that three types—candlenut, tamarind, and lac tree—dominate among the 13 species of the NTFPs. NTFPs are used for various purposes, such as medicinal, natural dye weaving, and selling to raise household income. The NTFPs development in Boti village needs to be prioritized, with a focus on increasing the added value of NTFPs through funding, facilitation, technological assistance, planting and preserving, collaborating more, and enforcing formal and customary rules. The results can be used as a baseline or reference for sustainable NTFP management and the empowerment of the Boti indigenous community.

Abstract

The transmission of the HIV/AIDS virus in Tanzania to mothers, babies, and children has become a global problem that has attracted world attention. These threats must be a primary focus to ensure the well-being and security of the next generation. This study uses literature studies with the theory of securitization and international organizations in answering research questions about the phenomena studied. As a securitization actor, UNICEF made a statement through the Children and AIDS program to tackle the spread of HIV/AIDS in Tanzania. Seeing that the Tanzanian government was unable to overcome the spread of this virus, the government chose to work with UNICEF in the hope that the collaborative program created would be able to overcome the spread of HIV and AIDS. The results of the study show that the implementation of the program indicates progress toward public awareness in Tanzania, especially among those living with HIV/AIDS themselves. Not only that, UNICEF has aided in every field and aspect of Tanzania. But of course, there are challenges in implementing a program in a country, one of which is discrimination which can hinder the planned program.

Abstract

Abstract

This article examines how Indonesia mobilizes economic diplomacy through Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPAs) to attract foreign investment and strengthen economic resilience. While CEPAs have proliferated as “deep” trade frameworks that extend beyond tariffs to services, standards, and investment provisions, evidence on how they deliver real-economy outcomes remains mixed. Adopting a qualitative, multiple–case design, the study synthesizes secondary sources—policy texts, official reports, and scholarly literature—and employs document analysis and process tracing to identify the mechanisms through which CEPA commitments are translated into performance. Findings indicate that four pathways—credibility signaling, rule harmonization, value-chain integration and aftercare alignmen are associated with export diversification and improved conditions for greenfield investment. These effects, however, are contingent on sub-national implementation capacity, regulatory coherence across agencies, and exposure to geoeconomic risks  The study contributes by shifting the evaluation of CEPAs from “agreement presence” to “mechanisms under identifiable domestic conditions,” and it offers actionable recommendations: professionalize investment facilitation and aftercare, prioritize standards interoperability, and embed risk-management provisions in digital and investment chapters. Limitations stem from reliance on secondary data; future research should incorporate firm-level microdata to test mechanisms causally.

Abstract

The Indonesian Navy’s National Navy (TNI AL) has an important role in strengthening maritime domain awareness (MDA). In the era of globalization, the sea has become a very vital strategic area for the country. The Indonesian Navy has a major role in guarding and protecting Indonesian territorial waters from various threats, such as terrorism, illegal trade, illegal fishing, and conflicts at sea. To carry out this role, the Indonesian Navy needs good and effective MDA instruments. In building MDA, the Indonesian Navy must have the ability to collect information from various sources, be it through monitoring from the air, sea, or land. This paper uses a qualitative-descriptive method by obtaining data through a literature review process. The Indonesian Navy can utilize sea power to strengthen national defense, increase maritime trade, and secure marine resources. In this case, the Indonesian Navy can act as a protector of national security and also as a driver of economic growth through the maritime sector. In conclusion, TNI-AL plays a very important role in maritime domain awareness. For this reason, the TNI AL needs to have good and effective MDA instruments for gathering information and taking appropriate action. By having this capability, the Indonesian Navy can strengthen national defense and exploit the potential of the sea for the country’s economic progress.
