Abstract

Arboreal ants are ants that do activities and spend their lives in tree. Roles of this organism are to serve as decomposers, pollinators, predators and indicators. Ant species diversity constitutes a chain for ecosystem stability. They are responsible as decomposing insects making their presence becomes ecologically vital. Research on ant species diversity in mangrove forest remains insufficient. One of the reasons possibly is that fact that mangrove is an ecosystem which is affected by sea tide. This research aims at gathering data about ant species diversity based on types of mangrove forest vegetation located in Setapuk Besar, Singkawang City. The research used a survey method by observing types of trees whose diameter was 10 cm and above. Additionally, the tree should have a large number of ants. The data was collected through fly sheet trap set under, in the mid, and above the tidal level. Findings revealed 6 types of ants consisting 4 sub-families in 6 types of the trees i.e. Rhizopora mucronata, Avicennia lanata, Hibiscus tiliaceus, Terminalia capatta, Nypa fruticans, and Bruguiera cylindrical.. Based on the diversity index of those 6 types of trees, the divercity of arboreal ants spesies could be categorized low (H’<1). The highest diversity was nypa fruticans vegetation by 0.325. This was because the tree contains sugar level and carbohydrate. The lowest diversity was Hibiscus tiliaceus and Termialia catappa. The H’ value was 0. One of the reasons was because only one species of ants can be found in both trees, namely Oecophylla smaragdina. Keywords: Arboreal Ants, Diversity, Mangrove, Singkawang

Abstract

In the first phase of planting, Aquilaria spp. can only grow in the shade because these plants have semitoleren properties. This condition makes the Aquilaria spp difficult to grow in open fields. Thus, this research was conducted with the treatment of manure and mulch. This research aims to investigate the influence of manure and mulch on the growth of Aquilaria spp. which is planted on ultisol soil in open fields. The research was carried out in an experiment fields of Tanjungpura University in Desa Pak Laheng, Toho sub district, Mempawah region. The research was done until the plant reached the age of 3 months, using a factorial experiment with randomised block design. The treatment started from plants treated without fertilizer (P0), plants with 500-gram fertilizer (P1), and plants treated with 1000-gram fertilizer (P2), as well as with the second factor on plants without mulch (M1) and plants treated with mulch (M2). The results showed that manure gave a clear influence towards height accretion, leaf accretion, and the increase in diameter. Meanwhile, mulch only gave influences towards the increase of diameter.  The interaction of both treatments did not give any influence on the growth of Aquilaria spp. Keywords: Aquilaria spp, manure and mulch, ultisol soil and open fields

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the media are suitable as a medium growth of mangrove and knowing the time of appearance of first leaf. Object of research is mangrove propagul PT. Bina Ovivipari universe. The medium used is the land of the mud and soil ultisol. This research was carried out on the seedbed of PT Bina Ovivipari universe. The research method used complete randomized factorial experiments (Factorial RAL) with 4 combination treatment. The observation parameters is percentage grow plants Rhizhopora apiculata, the time of the emergence of the first leaf, and the time needed for the plant to be ready for planting. The treatment of the soil with plain water mud had a pretty good growing percent i.e. of 60% while on the treatment of the soil with plain water ultisol percent grow only 40% which based on the results of calculations using factorial RAL indicates that on a spray of sea water have different results by using plain water spray where on ordinary water spray has a real influence on the growth of R.apiculata so that spray water on the media as well as media ultisol soil sea mud can be used for the growth of propagul until the fourth week of planting.Keyword: Mangrove Propagul, Ultisol Soil, Type of Water

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the diversity of vegetation species that compose mangrove forests in the village of Medan Mas, Kubu Raya Regency. Measured parameters of important value index , dominance index (C), species richness index (RI), species evenness index (e) was carried out using the survey method by means of a plot. The placement of the research path was done (purposive ). The path made in this study is 10 meters wide (5 m to the left 5 m to the right) and the path length is adjusted to the conditions in the field to the river boundary. From the pathway, a sub-plot is made with a size of 10 m x 10 m for the tree level, and 5 m x 5 m for the sapling level and 2 x 2 for the seedling level. The results of this study indicate that the types found in the field amounted to 12 species for seedlings, 10 species for saplings and 9 species for trees. . Based on the results of the data obtained, it is known that the index value of species diversity (H) at seedling, sapling and tree levels shows a number <1. This means that the value of species diversity found in mangrove forests in Medan Mas Village is relatively low. Forests with low species diversity values indicate that the forest area has experienced forest disturbance or damage. When data collection is carried out in the field, there are several locations that experience disruption or damage in the form of logged-over or transfer functions as shrimp ponds. Keywords: Mangrove Forest, Vegetation Diversity
