This study aims to report on the role of the family in helping students develop English speaking skills. A qualitative method was used, with data collected through questionnaires distributed to five EFL university students. The data obtained was analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques, where the results of questionnaires and interviews were categorized, compared and interpreted to describe the patterns that emerged. The findings show that becoming accustomed to speaking English in everyday life greatly aids in improving English speaking skills. The supportive role of the family plays a crucial part in helping students develop their cognitive abilities. Proper treatment and motivation at home are essential for this process. Additionally, the good habits and traits fostered within the family environment serve as guidelines for building a promising future. A positive family environment has a significant impact on enhancing speaking skills and makes learning English easier for a child. By incorporating vocabulary into daily activities, students are able to memorize and understand it more easily, as learning becomes enjoyable and habitual, leading to a more effective language acquisition process.

Abstract

Academic writing plays a crucial role in academics including undergraduate students. In addition, the development of technology provides effectiveness for them in the process of academic writing. The present study unravels undergraduate students’ voices on how artificial intelligence (AI) supports their academic writing including kinds of AI applications mostly used by them in enhancing academic writing and challenges in using AI. Anchoring in a qualitative research method, the data of this study were gathered from in-depth interviews with six students at an Indonesian higher education. The findings of the study revealed that AI applications are used to support students’ academic writing. Some AI applications they use include translation tools such as Google Translate, paraphrasing tools such as Quillbot, grammar and spelling checkers such as Grammarly, plagiarism checkers such as Turnitin, and reference management software such as Mendeley and Zotero. Furthermore, they reported that AI could enhance their academic writing by providing better organization, efficiency, consistency, and accuracy. However, critical thinking skills cannot be developed by AI applications. Thus, the finding of the study offers an implication that students can utilize these AI applications to support their work and they should actively participate in the process of academic writing.

In this context, parents—who serve as primary educators and role models for their children—play a crucial role in preventing sexual abuse. The responsibility is deeply rooted in the values and practices of parenting. While previous studies have examined various aspects of sexual abuse, limited research has focused on parental engagement within the Indonesian context, particularly across families of diverse backgrounds. Moreover, the implications of such engagement have yet to be thoroughly investigated. The present study seeks to explore the experiences of Indonesian parents, especially mothers, in their efforts to prevent child sexual abuse through active parental engagement. Adopting a narrative inquiry approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with six mothers from different regions in Indonesia. The findings indicate that parents employ a range of strategies to engage in the prevention of CSA. These include providing children with sex education, serving as positive role models, fostering open and supportive communication about personal safety, instilling religious and moral values, and guiding children in the responsible use of social media. This study highlights the need for comprehensive efforts to support parental involvement in CSA prevention. It suggests that the Indonesian government and policymakers should offer targeted training programs or workshops for parents across sectors. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the importance of collaborative efforts among families—particularly mothers and fathers—schools, and government institutions, to establish a united front against child sexual abuse.]  Keywords: Child Sexual Abuse, Indonesian Families, Parents, Policymakers
