Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to describe the preference of using of mathematical representations form of the seventh grade students of SMP 9 Yogyakarta who have high ability in developing the concept of a Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SLETV) and describing the characteristics of the use of such mathematical representations form. This research was categorized as a qualitative case study approach. The subjects of this study were 6 (six) students of seventh grade of SMP Negeri 9 Yogyakarta who have high ability. Data in this study were the use of mathematical representation forms in developing concepts of SLETV that obtained from observation and interview-based tasks. The data were analyzed into three categories of SLETV developing concepts: 1) stating SLETV definition and SLETV’s solution definition; 2) using the concept SLETV in everyday life; and 3) solving the problem of SLETV. The use of students’ mathematical representation that includes a symbolic representation, a verbal representation, and a visual representation were be seen by each category. The validity of the data being used in this study was triangulation time, through the first observational data and task-based interview, and the second observational data and task-based interviews. The same consistent data were categorized as valid data that illustrate the use of students’ mathematical representation in developing  concepts of SLETV. The results of this study are as follows. 1) The preference of the use of students’ representation forms in stating SLETV definition and solution sets by using verbal representation. Characteristics of using this representation are by mentioning SLETV’ characteristics (for SLETV definition), and by mentioning the characteristics SLETV solution (for solution sets); 2) Preference of the use of students representation forms in using SLETV concept in the daily life is by using symbolic representation. The characteristics of the use of representation are: a) by changing the description of the conditions that are known to be an equation form; b) by making a conjecture to find the right answer; c) by clarifying the rightness of the conjecture that has been made to determine the correct answer; d) by performing algebra arithmetic operations, and arithmetic operations to determine the right answer. 3) The preference of the use of students’ representation forms in finishing SLETV problem is by using  symbolic representation. The characteristics of using this representation are: a) by changing the shape that was known as an equation form; b) by manipulating the form of the equations that have been made to get the right answer easier; c) by making a conjecture to find the right answer; d) by clarifying the rightness of the conjecture that has been made to determine the correct answer; e) by doing algebra arithmetic operations and arithmetic operations to determine the right answer.Keywords : Developing  of concepts, Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SLETV), mathematical representation.

Abstract

Pandemi yang melanda di tahun 2020 ini memaksa sekolah untuk merubah proses pembelajaran dari luring menjadi daring. Beberapa sekolah terlihat belum siap menghadapi proses pembelajaran secara daring, sehingga menggunakan platform seadanya yang mengakibatkan beberapa guru mengalami kesulitan dalam mengelola kelas. Hal ini juga dialami oleh SMP Muhammadiyah Al-Manar, sehingga diperlukan diadakan kegiatan pelatihan dan pendampingan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan guru dalam teknologi khususnya penggunaan platform e-learning yaitu google classroom. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini bertujuan agar guru yang masih aktif di SMP Muhammadiyah Al-Manar dapat meningkatkan keterampilan penggunaan platform google classroom untuk mendukung pembelajaran daring selama pandemi berlangsung. Kegiatan PkM dilaksanakan selama bulan Oktober-Desember 2020 dengan metode ceramah, pelatihan, workshop dan pendampingan yang dilakukan oleh tim PkM. Dari kegiatan tersebut diperoleh peningkatan indikator keterampilan penggunaan google classroom yaitu mengenal fitur google classroom dari 58,3% naik menjadi 70,8%, kemampuan upload file dari 41,67% naik menjadi 69,4%, upload video dari 54,12% menjadi 69,4%, upload tugas dari 54,12% naik menjadi 69,4% dan penilaian tugas serta umpan balik naik dari 50% ke 72,2%.

Abstract

Pengembangan multimedia dilatar belakangi oleh kesulitan siswa pada materi garis dan sudut, yakni ketika mengaitkan materi tersebut dengan aljabar, kesulitan memvisualisasikan kedudukan dua garis, kesulitan menggunakan rumus pelurus, penyiku, dan sebagainya, serta kesulitan mempelajari dan memahami materi secara mandiri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui langkah dalam mengembangkan multimedia interaktif menggunakan articulate storyline berbantuan geogebra pada materi garis dan mengetahui kevalidan serta kepraktisan multimedia interaktif menggunakan articulate storyline berbantuan geogebra pada materi garis dan sudut. Metode dari penelitian ini adalah Research and Development dengan model 4D yang terdiri dari tahapan Define (Definisi), Design (Desain), Develop (Pengembangan), dan Disseminate (Penyebaran). Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah 33 siswa kelas VII C salah satu SMP Negeri di Yogyakarta. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah angket validasi ahli materi, angket validasi ahli media, dan angket respon siswa. Berdasarkan uji coba kevalidan dan kepraktisan multimedia interaktif menggunakan articulate storyline berbantuan geogebra pada materi garis dan sudut dinyatakan valid berdasarkan penilaian ahli materi dan ahli media, serta dinyatakan praktis berdasarkan respon calon pengguna (siswa). Kategori valid terlihat dari rata-rata skor 3,16 yang termasuk kategori “baik” dari ahli materi dan 3,17 yang dikategorikan “baik” menurut ahli media. Kategori praktis ditunjukkan dari rata-rata angket respon siswa yaitu 3,44 yang dikategorikan “sangat baik”.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a website-based learning media on Pythagorean material. This study uses a development research method with the Research and Development (R&D) method with a 4D model (Define, Design, Development, and Dissemination. The research was carried out at SMP Negeri 1 Pasawahan Kuningan Regency  by dividing into two trials, namely 5 students for small class trials and 26 students for a large class trial. Instruments of the assessment used a questionnaire assessment of material experts, media experts and student responses. The results in this study were from material experts with an average of 3.71 categorized as very valid, from media experts with an average of 3.63 categorized as very valid and student responses in the interesting category with an average percentage of 77.23% so that the website-based learning media with Pythagorean material that the researcher developed is feasible to use in the learning process.

Abstract

Mathematics learning is often hindered by epistemological obstacles that affect students’ conceptual understanding. In geometry, students frequently struggle to identify and analyze fundamental properties of prisms, despite instructional efforts to improve comprehension. Prior research has primarily focused on procedural fluency rather than the cognitive barriers students face in interpreting mathematical definitions. Addressing this gap, this study investigates the epistemological obstacles eighth-grade students encounter in understanding prisms. Specifically, it examines students’ ability to determine whether a geometric figure qualifies as a prism based on definitional characteristics and to analyze the relationship between two figures with equal volumes. This qualitative study employs a phenomenological approach, involving six purposively selected eighth-grade students. Data were collected through written tests and semi-structured interviews, then analyzed in three stages: identifying core ideas from student responses, categorizing these ideas into conceptual groupings, and thematizing the categorized data into key discussion themes. Findings reveal that students struggle to identify prisms due to difficulties recognizing defining characteristics and determining bases, resulting from didactic transposition issues such as oversimplified definitions, misinterpretation of concepts, and curricular limitations. At the C4 level of Bloom’s Taxonomy, students also struggle to analyze mathematical statements due to reliance on teacher-provided examples. This study contributes to mathematics education by highlighting cognitive barriers in geometric reasoning. The findings emphasize the need for instructional strategies that enhance conceptual clarity and adaptive problem-solving, ultimately fostering deeper geometric understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to develop student worksheets based on mathematical communication skills. It used the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) to develop and evaluate the worksheet. The subjects of this study were students of class VII in one of the junior high schools in Yogyakarta. The testing consisted of two stages, namely the small-scale trial consisting of 5 students and a large-scale trial consisting of 31 students. We collected the data using questionnaire for material and media experts’ judgment as well as for the students’ responses. Then, we analyzed the validity and practicality of the worksheet. Finally, the results of the assessment of material experts and media experts obtained an overall average score of 4.29 (very good category), so that the mathematical communication skills worksheet considered valid. Meanwhile, the students' responses to the worksheets were practical with an average score of 3.1 (good category).

Abstract

Memahami objek, konsep, prosedur merupakan salah satu tujuan mempelajari pelajaran matematika disekolah. Muatan materi yang cendrung kompleks dengan elemen-elemen yang abstrak menjadi masalah bagi siswa sehingga memunculkan beban kognitif, diantaranya adalah beban kognitif eksternal. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menunjukkan beberapa strategi yang perlu diperhatikan dalam mendesain pembelajaran matematika agar dapat meminimalkan beban kognitif eksternal. Penelitian ini berupa studi kepustakaan (library research). Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini, dilakukan dengan melakukan penelusuran referensi secara online melalui beberapa sumber basis data Google Cendikia, ERIC Institute of Education Science, serta Science Direct. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis isi (content analysis). Hasil kajian dalam studi ini terdapat 8 strategi dalam mendesain pembelajaran matematika untuk meminimalkan beban kognitif eksternal diantaranya The Goal-Free Effect, The Worked Exampel Effect, The Split-Attention Effect, The Modality Effect, The Redundancy Effect, The Element Interactivity Effect, The Imagination Effect dan The Guidance Fading Effect.Understanding objects, concepts, procedures is one of the goals of studying mathematics in school. Material content that tends to be complex with abstract elements becomes a problem for students so that it creates cognitive loads, including external cognitive loads. The purpose of this study is to show several strategies that need to be considered in designing mathematics learning in order to minimize external cognitive load. This research is in the form of library research (library research). The data collection technique in this study was carried out by searching for references online through several Google Cendikia database sources, ERIC Institute of Education Science, and Science Direct. Analysis of the data in this study using content analysis method. The results of the study in this study there are 8 strategies in designing mathematics learning to minimize external cognitive load including The Goal-Free Effect, The Worked Exampel Effect, The Split-Attention Effect, The Modality Effect, The Redundancy Effect, The Element Interactivity Effect, The Imagination Effect and The Guidance Fading Effect.
